The 2013 Les Paul ™50s Tribute nails the look, feel, and tone of the set-neck, single-cutaway solidbody that started it all”the original Les Paul Model of the early to mid 1950s. Like the first Les Paul guitars, the Les Paul ™50s Tribute carries a pair of screaming P-90 pickups, the fat Gibson single-coil that has been beloved for more than six decades, along with the comfortably rounded neck profile characteristic of that decade. A step up to Gibson' most acclaimed hardware set improves playability and offers precise tuning and intonation.

Just like the greatest Les Paul Standards ever made, the Les Paul ™50s Tribute starts with the classic tonewood combination of a mahogany body with solid carved maple top. When paired, these woods offer a tonal depth and complexity unmatched by any single-wood construction, with warmth and richness from the mahogany, and superb clarity and œsnap from the maple. The mahogany back is strategically weight relieved to both lighten your load and improve resonance.

A solid mahogany neck is glued into the body in Gibson' time-tested tradition, and carved to a comfortably rounded ˜50s profile that measures .818 at the 1st fret and .963 at the 12th. It is topped with a genuine rosewood fingerboard that carries 22 medium-jumbo frets and traditional trapezoid inlays. In keeping with the stripped-down ethos of this powerful performer, both body and ™board remain unbound, and there' no pickguard to obscure the finish. A PLEK-cut nut made from black Corian„¢ subtly complements the black top-hat knobs with silver inserts, while enhancing resonance and sustain. The traditional back-angled headstock is silkscreened with a gold Gibson logo and Les Paul Model.

The Les Paul ™50s Tribute takes its firepower from a pair of P-90 pickups, some of the most revered tone machines in Gibson history. The P-90s currently made by Gibson USA adhere strictly to the vintage formula, which includes genuine Alnico V bar magnets and coils wound with 42-AWG enamel-coated wire for all the growl, snarl, and articulation that has made the originals legendary. The traditional wiring complement of an independent volume and tone control per pickup plus a three-way toggle selector switch allows a broad range of sonic variations.

To anchor it all down, Gibson USA loads in a Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece, with a set of genuine Grover„¢ kidney button tuners, a hardware set that partners up for solid sustain and precision tuning. Put it all together, and the Les Paul ™50s Tribute presents the perfect celebration of Les Paul' genius and achievement, wrapping it into a great guitar that brings the look, feel, and sound of the first generation of Les Pauls to the hands of players of today.

Each guitar includes a black Gibson gig bag, owner' manual and truss-rod wrench.

Wasn't even looking for a new guitar

By Dennis Baker

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul '50s Tribute Electric Guitar:

It was just one of those things -- I'd stopped by the Medford store to check out an acoustic guitar - and on my way out thought I'd test abuse a couple of electrics -- I noticed a classic looking Goldtop Les Paul on the wall, OH MY - it's got P90's I thought - gotta try that... As soon as I touched it I knew I was in trouble -- the neck seemed to fit my hand perfectly - I've played a bunch of Les Pauls over the years, and always liked them, but just never got that excited - but this guitar was different. I discovered a bit later that the neck was patterned after the original 50's chunkier style (not fat to get your hand around, but a decidedly larger bit of neck to grab hold of). The next thing was that visually it really appealed to me. I like my guitars to be fairly bare bones basic, non-fancy - and this guitar is exactly that - beautiful gold top with finished mahogany back and neck - no binding or bling, just a stone gorgeous usable guitar. When I plugged this guitar in and opened it up I was floored by the sweetly aggressive pickups. To me, P90's are the coolest pickups in the universe - and nobody does P90 like Gibson. The tone of this guitar just flat blew me away - and it seemed there wasn't anything I couldn't do with it -- For me - this guitar fits my hand perfectly - plays very fast, is set up and intonated wonderfully and has that classic P90 growl I flat just lust for -- just this side of perfect. I asked the salesperson (Christian) if they tool trade ins - to which he said "yes we do". I literally brought in 5 cheaper guitars; they took them all and gave me pretty good value for them as trade ins. Final analysis, Christian was super cool to deal with (even took additional off my final bill since it went on sale while I had it on layaway), this guitar plays like a dream - howls like a 50's werewolf movie, is fantastically gorgeous (if you like it simple and straightforward!), it's made in the USA (there is a difference - trust me on that!)! Simply stated - this will be my go-to guitar probably till they drag me off the stage and stick me in the ground. This is one of those guitars you can build a true relationship with. If you don't understand that statement - just wait - one of these days you'll pick up that guitar - and the second you touch it - you'll know.

what a guitar !!!

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul '50s Tribute Electric Guitar:

I have the non min - Etune version of this guitar and I am extremely happy with the craftsmanship, quality and sound of this instrument. Gibson quality is the best I've ever witnessed. I'm from Kalamazoo and I remember when the Gibson electrics were made there. The guys from Gibson shaped the sound of rock music from the Kalamazoo factory and now they are still a powerful factor in today's music with the fine instruments they build in Nashville USA. The finish on my guitar is silky smooth and the lightly applied lacquer finish lets the wood breath. But the key to the sound of this guitar is the set of P-90 pickups that totally blew me away. It's a guitar players' dream come true. The value of this guitar will rival that of the early Les Paul Jr's of the 50's and 60's.

Sustain into next week

By Russell Cudmore

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul '50s Tribute Electric Guitar:

Just got this guitar. I had a Epiphone SG, it was OK but what a difference this Gibson LP is. The sustain goes on and on and on. The P90 pups are very sensitive, and they sound great. Oh my, really loving this guitar. I played a couple of Epiphone Les Pauls, then tried this one out. Wow, it really is the real deal and I got such a good price from GC that I couldn't not buy it. I'm liking the Satin finish on this more than I thought I would. I played the Epi traditional pro with satin finish but no comparison. The Gibson is smoother and just nicer. I'm in the Denver metro area and we have 3 GC's, went to the south GC and they only had 3 Epi LP's in stock. Then went to the central Denver store and they had more in stock including this Gibson. Anyway once I tried out the Gibson, that was all she wrote. No way I was walking out without it. Upgraded the case and now I'm a proud Gibson LP owner.
