Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Ash Body Electric Guitar:

Guitar came almost completely set up. Intonation was off a little on two strings .. action was great and I was able to drop it even more without any buzz. Neck and Frets where great. Beautiful Ash Body. So far Very Impressed. Contacted G&L/BBE before receiving this Tribute with some questions, received a prompt reply .. But when I tried to contact them again after I received it, I was completely ignored. That's why only 4 stars. Alnico pickups sound good though they don't look like the Alnico they have on their website .. that was my second question to them which they ignored. Still it's a keeper.

Pros

  • Solid well made guitar. Great pick ups.

Cons

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Ash Body Electric Guitar:

Great G&L Product. The Frets needed cleaning up, but Zach, the Guitar Tech, at GC Little Rock did a great job of setting the guitar up and polishing the frets. I eased the edges of the fretboard with a brass rod. Now it feels and plays like my USA G&L Legacy Specials.

Pickups are not as 'hot' as the Rails on the Specials, but they are very clean and nice. This guitar is my first 'Tele'. I would purchase it again.

I will probably put Hipshot GLO Grip Lock Locking Tuners on it. But to have a guitar that is nice as the USA for just a bit more and less than $1000 than the USA is pretty good.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Ash Body Electric Guitar:

It's a great value overall . However, the nut is cut a little high and the neck pickup is just toneless mush. A little work on the nut and anew neck pickup and this will be a fantastic value. Fit and finish is first class and it feels as good as any aamerican made tele I've played. Not to say this is the equivalent of a Fender Custom Shop Tele, but it is well worth the money.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Ash Body Electric Guitar:

A couple of the screw holes weren't aligned properly with the original design. In addition, the shawbucker slot on the original pickguard has a 2[]1 screw setup and this guard has a 1[]1 so I had to make necessary adjustments.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Ash Body Electric Guitar:

I've had this for 2 days now (thanks Santa) and got to play it for several hours for 2 church services yesterday, then a lot more at home.

              Bad things:
The neck joint is not perfectly flush with the body on the cutaway side. It's not off by much, but given the capability of today's routing machines I expect at least a near-perfect fit. My MiM Strat fits perfectly, so I expected as much from this. This is off by several thousandths of an inch. It isn't uncomfortable to play, just an issue with the fit/finish that I don't think should be present. The low E was too low and so buzzed a little, but again not a huge issue if you have a set of hex keys (which every guitarist should) and a bit of time. The knobs are scratchy, which is to be expected after some use, especially on an East Asian guitar with cheap parts. This particular model is made in Indonesia.

              Good Things:
Beautiful grain. The swamp ash body is finished well and (although it isn't bookmatched) looks gorgeous. Everyone who has seen it so far has loved the way it looks including me. The action is almost perfect (save for the low E mentioned earlier) and there are no dead spots/uneven frets that I can tell. I checked with a neck straight edge and then a high fret finder. 6 brass saddles (compared to 3 on many Fender Teles) so easy to set up perfectly and solid sustain. The pickups sound ok, though I am swapping the bridge out for a Seymour Duncan Little '59 for Tele along with a DiMarzio coil split potentiometer. The neck is unfinished maple with a 9.5" radius, rolled edges and plays very well.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. I opted for a "blemished" model because it was ~48% cheaper, yet I received a guitar without noticeable blemishes. No chips/cracks in the finish, electronics all work as intended, no loose knobs/nuts, and no cracks in the neck. Honestly, I think they sent me a new guitar. I'm excited to see what kind of tones I can get out of it in the coming years!
