1st off, this is a great piece of hardware even though it's plastic and lightweight. Installation of hardware is fast, easy to understand, and has many options for secure attachment that does not impact the finish of your favorite guitar. It charges fast and keeps a charge for many hours of use, even leaving it on overnight will still leave it with a useful charge the next day. The Studio One software is quite temperamental to install, and should have all the pre-requisite package installed first to avoid issues. Also, if you have a previous install of Studio One, be advised that they will not co-exist as noted at the Fishman site. any 32bit or 64bit versions of Studio One that came with a USB interface or bought separately, MUST BE FULLY UNINSTALLED before attempting to install the TriplePlay version, or the install will fail, and revert to your original version. The Fishman will show up as a controller, but the VST and all the pre-sets will not load, unless the 32bit Fishman version is the only one on your PC. After that has been accomplished you may then update the software, and presumably re-install the other 32bit or 64bit version of Studio One, but I would tread carefully here, because the vsti assignments can get muddled very easily. Other than the Studio One issues, the TriplePlay vsti immediately showed up in my Samplitude and Magix DAW's and works flawlessly with very little latency on some instruments, and virtually none on others, depending on the complexity of the instrument sound. also, this is the 1st MIDI interface guitar setup that naturally and cleanly interprets string bends and translated it automatically to the MIDI pitch wheel control, and you can toggle between pitch bend and stepped notes with the touch of a button on the unit, that was a very nice surprise. All around, a solid music production tool and MIDI performance instrument that is well worth the money and learning curve.

I've gotten great service and merchandise at Guitar Center, received item 3 days after ordering. Being able to play a Saxophone was a longtime wish and I thought I'd be able to make my guitar sound like a sax with the TriplePlay, since I have no wind to really play a sax due to terminal cancer. Hardware installed with little difficulty. I've spent the last 2 1/2 weeks trying to install the software (I have an older windows 7 computer). Regretfully I have to return this item since I'm too dumb to make the software work. So be careful if you only have a Windows 7 computer. Thanks for all your great products and service.

Too reliant on wireless and software

    By John

    from Melwokee, WS

Comments about Fishman TriplePlay Wireless Guitar Controller:

So, I have a UVI symphonic instrument that I bought 6 or 7 years ago, and now I can't even install it on my current computer...incompatible. All that money gone. So when I see this, I'm excited about the tracking, but I see a product that is rather pricey and that is dependent on a usb dongle and software. What happens in 7 years when the software won't install or usb goes the way of the floppy disk? If it were $200 I'd buy. But I can't stomach the possibility of $400 down the drain. If the device also had a port for a standard midi cable (i.e. I could still use it without the wireless and the software), I'd be more inclined to $400.

Great Controller - have patience setting everything up

    By David James

    from North Fork, California

Comments about Fishman TriplePlay Wireless Guitar Controller:

I recently purchased and received the triple play. I have tried many midi controllers for guitar over the years and always came away disappointed. Latency and response typically are just not musical. You do need to rethink how to play when playing patches through midi -- flutes and pianos are not guitars so need to be approached differently...that said however, I am very impressed with the overall response of this unit. I set it up on a fender strat -- had to cut away some of the face plate as my action was too low for the pickup to fit. But after that, and some back and forth getting the virtual instruments set up and everything talking on the computer, it works pretty darn well. The included libraries are great for effects and guitars, ok for basses, but plenty good enough to get started. I have still not gotten Studio One to work with the triple play as a plugin, but I am sure it is something I am doing, as standalone both work fine. I did have to upgrade my 6 year old usb sound interface for optimum performance. (I went with a Presonus audio box 22vsl). I also set this up on my acoustic as that is my main ax, and after switching from my Elixers to some D'aderio electric strings with wound third (you need magnetically active strings), the response and tracking is exactly the same as with my strat. I have some DR Zebras coming in the mail which hopefully will give back some warmth in the straight acoustic tone... but as I play plugged in most of the time it really does not seem to be an issue (I have a baggs /miniflex set up about 10 years old). I have yet to really spend some hours with the triple play in my live setup so perhaps the jury is still out. But overall it seems incredibly promising for anyone who wants to add MIDI to a guitar setup -- especially great if you play solo with a looper pedal and such (as I do).

    Poor User Guide, Limited Software

    By rodney

    from Sioux Falls, SD

Comments about Fishman TriplePlay Wireless Guitar Controller:

Very disappointed. Unless you have hours and hours to set up each included instrument. A large lag time when using the controller to change between presets makes it terrible for recording more than one instrument at a time. Far from a "complete software suite" even with the extra downloads offered. The only reason its getting 1 star is the wireless MIDI performs well. Great distance an pick-up. I had high hopes for this but after a few weeks of getting to know it I wish I had never made this purchase.

Best midi device ever for guitarist

    By Vispy Homavazir

Comments about Fishman TriplePlay Wireless Guitar Controller:

Will keep it short gr8 product. I'm used xp3 so i am not able to connect to fishmen's in house product or software which comes along with the suite or what they offer. Works fine with Nuendo or any DAW if you have and as soon as i connected my USB receiver it picked up the hardware and it was fully functional. No latency whatsoever. All my VST were assign correctly. please route the sound thru ur sound card other wise you will face system error or in any case the product works a bit slower but that also depends on your comp config. In all - i'm ready to go... cheers

Comments about Fishman TriplePlay Wireless Guitar Controller:

Yes there can be some setup probs. Some patience and persistence may be required. I wound up getting a new m-audio interface, and that solved everything for me. I love it. I can make sounds I've never been able to make before. It keeps up with me (I have to really try to out-run it). It's a great device, IMHO.

I purchase this wireless Midi to use with my current DAW mixcraft pro 7. I purchased this to record all instruments other than guitar. Since guitar is my main instrument i wanted something that would be easier than using a keyboard. I tried several other guitar Midi units and found this to be the best.the Latency is almost non existant.I would highly recomend this product.

Comments about Fishman TriplePlay Wireless Guitar Controller:

This product is a major exercise in patience and frustration. The product does work although from what I can tell, not any better than the Roland GK products for tracking. There are still ghost notes and glitchy stuff in the MIDI. The wireless is convenient instead of the multi-pin Roland cable. Another issue is setting everything up and getting it running. If any of the software is installed out of order, it doesn't work. I had spent several hours trying to figure out what I installed wrong and what directories things need to go in just to get this to work. Also, in a moment of stupidity, I bought one of the East West MIDI sound series. I guess it is too much to expect that everything should be plug and play. It seems that having to read three manuals (Fishman, East West, and Mixcraft) to figure out where the folders I created need to go and getting the scanners to run and recognize the sounds in either the Triple Play program or my DAW is just way beyond me. Frustration and defeat. I can't recommend this - for me it feels like a waste of a lot of money.

Comments about Fishman TriplePlay Wireless Guitar Controller:

It was a major pain once I got the unit to update the triple play software that you need to download. It kept failing to update the firmware of the controller. You also need to the software to properly set the levels of each string. The Fishman customer service was excellent and prompt however. Once I got it all updated and ready to go I realized how convoluted their virtual instruments were and said screw it. I already have a Kork polysix VSTI as well as Kontakt and Toontrack EZ keys so all the instruments I need I already have. This unit is exceptional for triggering the samples I need and has really helped me expand my musical Ideas.

I have paired it with a Roland JV 1010 synth rack module. I mounted it on my black Les Paul Custom and it is almost invisible. Great tracking. Even hammer ons and pull offs are picked up. The guitar sound runs into my Fender cyber twin and the synth sound goes to a Peavey keyboard amp with a 15" speaker. People keep asking us where we hide the keyboard player. The sound is massive.

This is what I have been waiting for for the last 40 years. It is, hands down, the coolest accessory I have ever seen for a guitar. It has lots of amazing instruments: a sitar with sympathetic strings!!! Great percussive Hammond B-3 with a Leslie. It has great horns but the strings are especially compelling. I'm using this to add instruments to my home recordings but, if I still played out, I would get a laptop and take this on the job.

Comments about Fishman TriplePlay Wireless Guitar Controller:

I am beginner on guitar but did have experience with midi and found this very easy to install on my Hamer electric. Worked perfectly and tracks with no noticeable latency using iOS devices and my MacBook. I have a auto tune bridge and just had to slack all strings rather than removing them as one video suggested. Most midi vsts are set up for keyboard controller so I expect to have to learn how to control the sustain from the electric guitar by muting the strings. Demo videos are from pros and they don't really emphise how they get all the sounds as they may be "out of the box" but their technique makes a huge difference.
