I recently bought this 3/4 size guitar because I wanted to use it as a "parlor guitar". So far, it is everything I hoped for. I plays real well, the action is perfect, and it stays in tune. The satin finish is real nice. You really can't go wrong purchasing a Fender. I didn't have to do any set-up to the guitar. It was pretty much playable right out of the box. I wanted a "Nashville Tuning" sound, so the only thing I altered was to replace the strings with the high, unwound strings from a set of 12-strings on the guitar. Strung this way, with the top 4 strings strings tuned an octave higher, the guitar really sounds amazing. The "case" that came with it was nothing more than a thin piece of vinyl, so I would recommend replacing it with a better quality gig bag (which I did). Overall, this guitar is worth every penny and I would definately recommend it.

I purchased this guitar for a couple reasons. I wanted a smaller bodied guitar and I have other Fender guitars that I like. The shorter scale isn't as much of an issue as I thought it would be and the extra reach kind of opens up other possibilities. I'm very pleased with the guitar. It isn't an expensive instrument and I didn't expect it to be. With a little pencil shavings in the nut it's holding a tune pretty well and the fretboard came free of buzz and with acceptable string height for general use. This isn't a five star guitar and that's why it didn't get 5 stars from me. GC shipped very quickly and the price I paid was very good after tax and shipping and all of that. For what it is, it gets all the stars it can. It isn't a throw-away guitar by any means but it's one I'd let some kid borrow and not worry too much about it. If anything did happen to it I do believe I'd replace it with the same make and model. I'm very pleased with it for what it is.

The tone. (Stock strings - Fender Dura-Tone Coated 80/20 Bronze (.012-.052 Gauge)) Hmm. It isn't like a regular / full sized acoustic guitar but I didn't expect it to be. With the small body, no finish, and agathis top the tone is light in the bass, light in the treble and pretty punchy in the midrange. For classical fingerpicking pieces it sounds like you're sitting in a parlor in 1830. It has the right sound, in my opinion. If you haven't played a parlor / 3/4 scale guitar I recommend playing one in GC before purchasing in case you don't like that sound. I do.

I'm not submitting an image because there's nothing wrong with it to note and it looks pretty much exactly like the one on the web page.

Perfect Travel Guitar

By Gil Flores

Comments about Fender MA-1 Parlor 3/4 Size Acoustic Guitar:

The Fender MA-1 3/4 acoustic is a great choice for a throw-and -go-guitar. Clean lines and nice workmanship from Fender give you a 3/4 size model that you won't be gun shy to bring to a party or public gathering. Comes with a gig-bag, so right out of the box you are ready to go. It has adequate sound quality for the category, and it's a looker - perfect for on the go play/practice.
