Overview

Externally the American Elite Stratocaster has Fender’s timeless style, but under the hood it’s an entirely new breed of guitar designed for 21st-century players who constantly push the envelope. With over a dozen new innovations, each guitar is a true performer with eye-catching style, exceptional feel and versatile sound from the very first moment you plug it in and play.

Features
• Double cutaway electric guitar
• Three all-new fourth generation Noiseless single-coil Stratocaster pickups
• S-1 switching for even more tonal versatility
• Compound profile neck; redesigned contoured neck heel
• 9.5-14 in. compound radius fingerboard
• Locking short-post tuning machines; speedy soft-touch control knobs
• Includes redesigned ABS Elite Molded Case with TSA locks

All-new American elite neck and neck heel
Designed for 21st-century players, the American Elite Series sports a new compound neck profile designed for comfort and the ultimate playability. A modern "C"-shape at the nut, the rear of the neck morphs along the length of the neck to a modern "D"-shaped profile at the updated neck heel that blends into the asymmetrical neck volute, providing plenty of ergonomic support and comfortably enhanced playing feel.

All-new 4th generation Noiseless pickups
With the all-new 4th generation Noiseless pickups, exclusive to the American Elite Series, we’ve achieved the sonic equivalent of cold fusion—authentic vintage-style Fender sound combined with noise-free performance. A quantum leap in pickup technology, these bleeding-edge pickups are the pinnacle of our pickup designs, offering crisp, clear cleans as well as gigantic overdriven tones that are bursting with pure rock power.

New double action truss rod adjustment wheel
The new double action truss rod adjustment wheel makes it a snap to adjust the instrument's neck relief without any special tools.

S-1 switch
The S-1 switch activates alternate wiring options for even more tonal variations. Discreetly placed atop the volume control, it engages or disengages at the tap of a finger for on-the-fly adjustments.

When not in use, the S-1 switch doesn’t affect standard Stratocaster wiring, which is:
Position one: bridge pickup only
Position two: bridge and middle pickups wired in parallel
Position three: middle pickup only
Position four: middle and neck pickups wired in parallel
Position five: neck pickup only

The S-1 switch offers five additional pickup wiring options when engaged:
Position one: all three pickups wired in series
Position two: bridge and middle pickups wired in series
Position three: middle and neck pickups wired in series
Position four: bridge and neck pickups wired out of phase, with a special tone capacitor
Position five: bridge and middle pickups wired in series and out of phase, in parallel with neck pickup

New soft touch knobs
These easy-grip knobs make on-the-fly volume and tone adjustments a breeze.

Locking tuning machines with all short posts
Enjoy lightning-fast, easy re-stringing and enhanced playability from the new locking short-post tuning machines. Not only do they provide increased break angle at the nut, they also increase tuning stability.

Comments about Fender Limited Edition American Elite Stratocaster with Matching Headcap Rosewood Fingerboard:

As the years have passed, I've moved from a MIM Stratocaster to American Standards, and I was wanting to check out a Custom Shop guitar and see if I could rationalize spending that kind of money on a guitar. Lo and behold, I found this Elite model with some of the features I wanted, and minus the cheesy relic'ing. I love the color of this guitar, and I love how playable it is. I really like the S1 selector switch in the volume knob that gives you an extra 5 voicings with pickup-configurations, and the 4th Generation Noiseless pickups are simply amazing. Every detail of this guitar is fantastic. It is absolutely a steal for the money, compared to spending %75 of the price on an American Professional... or %50 on a Made In Mexico Standard guitar. It is thousands times better quality for the money. I was so glad with this Stratocaster that I went ahead and traded in two Telecasters to get one Elite Tele. The Elites are seriously excellent guitars.

Comments about Fender Limited Edition American Elite Stratocaster with Matching Headcap Rosewood Fingerboard:

Not sure why I am reviewing this, it's a limited edition and there are only a few left. I ended up returning within the 45 days.

Right out of the box, there was some kind of wax or glue material on the fingerboard between frets 7 & 8, under strings 3 & 4. The material flaked off with a thumbnail, but there was a raised spot underneath it that would not come off with naphtha or gorgomyte. I exchanged it for a different of the same model, but apparently it shipped from the wall at a different store. Upon receipt it had the wrong tremolo arm, was missing the strap locks and other tools that should come with it when shipped new, so I kept the original for a little longer.

During the first string change I noticed what appeared to be a sideways hairline crack in the nut. I contacted Fender who told me it was covered under warranty and advised I take it to one of their local authorized repair shops in my area, which I did. The guy I took it to was extremely helpful. At first he thought it might just be poor finish on the nut, but upon closer examination he was using some tool and a chip of the nut flaked right off. He said he could repair the nut at Fender's cost, but I decided to wait because I was considering returning it.

Also after the first string change, I had stretched the strings and was playing normally with regular slinkys (10-46). After only a couple of hours, the 10 gauge string broke. I never break strings on any of my other 7 guitars, and I play them all the same. It did not break at the bridge where I would normally expect it to (due to a burr in the saddle), but right where the string entered the locking tuner. This made it extra difficult to retrieve the broken piece out of the tuner hole, since it was a locking tuner and was not wrapped around the pole.

I returned it within the 45 days. Would not recommend, especially if they try to sell you either of the 2 that I tried out.
