This thing is absolutely amazing
Honestly, this amp is absolutely killer. It has such nice, lush clean tones. It's not hard to dial in a tone you'll love. I've been able to easily get convincing Hendrix-y and Mayer-y tones from it. It's seems they've fixed the volume jump issue as well which is a big plus! It's rated at 40-watts and stays decently clean up until around 8 on the volume (it goes to 12 which is like... 1 more than 11?). After that you get a bit of breakup. It's been able to stay clean with a rather hard-hitting drummer which is exactly what I needed. As a pedal platform, this is easily one of the best, if not the best, amps out there. It eats up any pedal you could possibly throw at it. I'm currently using it with a EQD Plumes, Phase 95, SL Drive, JHS modded Rat, Pugilist, Compressor Plus, and a Polara. No issues with any pedal. Volume-wise — it can get quiet enough to play at home/bedroom levels without any issues. Use input 2 for a -6dB pad and run your volume at around 2 and that's perfect for low-level playing. The A-Type speaker compliments the amp really well. It's not my favorite speaker and I will end up going with a creamback (currently have a V-Type in there which is quite nice) but as far as stock speaker go, there is really no reason to change it unless there is something specific that you are looking for. It has a good bottom end. Nice low mids and crystal clear highs. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this amp to anyone. If you are a gigging musician that enjoys using pedals to color your tone, this is the amp you want. If you are a bedroom/home player that wants nice, low-volume tone, this is the amp you want. It's hard to get a sound that you won't like. If you're in the market for a new amp I would highly suggest trying this out!

Disappointment
The issue with this amp is - and I went through 3 of these before I gave up - is that when you are playing at "normal" volume (like 3 on this thing because once you get past this setting, the amp gets LOUD real quickly!), and you start to try to make a B note for instance "sing" on the 19th fret of the 1st string, the note would become the same pitch as the B pitch of the 7th fret on the 1st string... Usually this phenomenon occurs around this pitched note going into the amp from the guitar. Tried different guitars at GC as well, same thing - for all 3. I went with a Peavey Classic 30, haven't looked back. WAY better amp and I have heard the Hot Rod Deluxe III is better than this cheap-O IV model. Cannot personally attest the the III being better, but don't really care, my Classic 30 hasn't let me down, so no longer in the market for a moderate powered all-tube combo guitar amp. Moral of the story is go Peavey! This amp is a mass manufactured mess IMHO. Not that the Classic 30 is made any different, but it is a better design for something comparable. And the Peavey has better overdrive sound if that matters to anyone.

Great fender sound. Good to have the mid EQ, drive channel and the loop channel. Compare to deluxe reverb. It's warmer in tone. The drive channel sounds pretty good too. Master volume is great.

I use this amp in my home and jamming with friends. It's loud enough to keep up with most amps and definitely a drum kit. I play a lot of boosted gain and drive pedals into the clean channel. It sounds amazing. I use the JHS little black amp box passive attenuator in the effects Loop to control the tone without going deaf. I'd highly recommend that pedal or anything like that for this set up.
Horrible amp that constantly rattles

This is the worst amp I have ever purchased in my life. I wasted over $1000 trusting Fender's quality. In less than 90 days, the amp started to rattle on its clean tone. I took it into an authorized repair shop and it was determined it was the tubes. Still rattles after bringing it home. I wish I could just return it.

I was torn between the blues deluxe and the HRD IV and I am glad I chose what I did. The amp has a large range of choices in tone adjustment, and I am very happy with the way it accepts pedals. I am an experienced stage musician, this amp covers all the basses. It can be kind of loud and I rarely go past 3 on the volume. I look for a great clean tone first and do all my dirty work at the pedal board. I do not care much for the overdrive side of the amp. My one significant issue is that after 17 months of hard use the amp died, thank goodness for purchasing the insurance which was about to expire. I was not at all happy with the way the store backed up the insurance making me feel like I was the bad guy. It has been in the shop almost four weeks and the tech told me that there were many more issues with the amp than the one I brought it in for. I was told at the store because of inflation I could not get a one for one exchange as I had been promised and would have to pay an additional $235 to get a replacement off the shelf with a warranty. I hesitate to recommend this amp because what if it had died at a gig which it almost did. Glad I have a back up solid state amp that I used for the next few shows. Except for the reliability issue it is a great amp with great sound.
