50's classic MIM Strat

By Michael777

from Shepherdsville, KY

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I am a complete strat player, I love everything about them, looks, nostalgia, sound, feel and playability; simplicity at it's finest. This is a great playing strat and it will give you a really good clean tone, which is Fender's hallmark. Again this model feels and plays great, that is a given, but the pick ups (while great for clean tones, which is what a 50's strat excels in) were too bright for my taste in a medium to heavy overdrive situation (overdrive, not distortion, if that is your preference your probably wanting a humbucker equipped guitar anyway). I had a mexican standard strat when I bought this guitar, it had become in need of being refretted badly which cost about $300.00-375.00 to have done properly. So I thought I would spend $200.00 more and just get this guitar, because I absolutely love this 50's neck (even the 7.25" fretboard radius feels awsome to me, but I like my action fairly high so I don't have an issue with fretting out when bending notes, you will if you like your action low or even average). Anyway, all but needing to be refretted and preferring the V neck shape as opposed to the standard C neck, I really liked my standard strat tonally (and it was my first one I got when I started playing 7 years ago, so I was attached to it, I'm sentimental like that, plus I got my kids and my wife's name wood burned into the back of it, it's white so the finish has turned beautifully yellowish from time and heavy smoke exposure; we got history together and I'm bonded to it okay). Anyway, I took the 50's neck and put it on my old strat and with the combination of those pick ups which are substantially hotter with more mids (and my preference of .11 gauge GHS Boomers), this guitar sings, rips and growls the blues and classic rock. Let's don't forget the imaginary mojo and vibe created by a body and pick ups that have been with me since I was using my pick hand to place my fingers into proper chording positions (which is all too real to me and to you too or it will be if you play guitar) 7 years ago! This is an awsome buy if you like the neck contour and prefer or can adjust to raising the action of your strings, and have an extra hundred or 2 to replace the pick ups to something more suitable for overdriven tones (or have an old standard that has the frets played to the bone), cause we all know your not wanting something to just play pretty clean stuff on, that's what an acoustic guitar is for. Just one man's opinion, but the cleans are really good out of this guitar as is and who knows to your ear it's very possible that so could the overdriven tones be. I hope my review has helped you get a better understanding of this particular fine Fender guitar, enjoy playing. sincerely, Michael777

Fender always holds its ground

By synergyrocksmysocks

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have played this guitar for 2 years now, and its become my prized possesion. I play a whole lot of pink floyd, and noticed that lead guitar player David Gilmour uses a fender 50s stratocaster for most of his work. I soon bought one from guitar center, and ive never looked back. Fender makes the most quality of instruments in my opinion, and this guitar is no exception. if you want a quality instrument, but cant afford an american series, you should definetly check this one out.

An all around great guitar

By guitarkid

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar for my birthday and it's just awesome! I have the surf/mint green color. It's great, but I put custom humbuckers on it for a nice, clean sound. If you like rock, especially classical rock, this strat is a must have!

It takes me back 40 years!

By PEPE

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I remember seeing the Beach Boys and the Ventures playing a Surf green strat. A real sweet guitar for a nice price. The "V" neck is very fast and comfortable. The finish is really done well. The sound is just like I remember it. Nice piece!

I just bought this guitar and it is amazing! I got the surf green color and it looks beautiful. It puts out an impressive sound and it plays really nice, i like the neck the best, it feels really nice and everything is perfectly spaced, and you can just get down to playin. If your a old time player or a new player, then this classic remake is perfect for you, it brings the old looks and old time sound into your heart.

Stuck in the Era...

By John Johnson

from Anaheim, CA

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

The V-Shaped neck might seem odd, but in my opinion it was rather comfortable. The Gotoh tuners and bridge are quality The high gloss finish was a bit thick but not ridiculous. The surf green finish looked excellent! However, I warn you: These pickups are super vintage sounding, great for the Buddy Holly clean, jangly sound and some bright, classic overdrive tones but it doesn't lend itself toward heavy effects or a ballsy bottom end.

A great value

By Jeremy Lance

from Tulsa

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought a 2010 Daphne Blue '50s Classic Stratocaster used from the Guitar Center in Tulsa. It came with a nice tweed case. It plays like a dream. It plays as nicely as my mid-'80s Japanese Tele, and that's saying a lot. It plays as well as some American Fenders that I've played as well. The tremolo is easier to manipulate than any of my other tremolos, but I'm sure that's the result of weak springs. The tuners and electronics are good quality, especially the switch which makes the guitar feel like a top quality instrument. The pickups sound good, ranging from an ice-picky trebly bridge sound to a warm neck sound. If you can find one in a store to try out first (they seem to be rare in stores, this is the only one I've ever seen in a retail outlet and Fender doesn't seem to be pushing them very hard) you won't be disappointed. Everybody who plays it loves it. This is a great guitar at a good price.

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

WOW !! I am blown away ! Just as others have proclaimed, this 50s Series Strat defines the way the first ones sounded from the 1950s. Pickups are that glassy creamy sound , the way a Strat should sound. Build quality seems to be on par with American made strats. The Daphine Blue is gorgeous and this guitar needs nothing IMOP. I have had a lot of Strats during the last 10 years and this one I will keep forever. It is truly the BEST ONE I have ever encountered, American or Mexican or Japanese ,ect. I would put it up against any Strat for it`s sound , fit and finish and the wonderful neck and playability PERIOD

I have played guitar for 30 years, everything from punk, ska, metal, jazz, blues. i own lots of guitars and do my own adjustments and mods. this guitar straight from GC Overland Park, Ks kicks butt. its fiesta red. its a strat, so there is not the heavy butter bottom end. i play through a marshall jvm or peavey classic 30 modded and this guitar sounds wonderful. the only pedal i use is a old zoom G1. i have a very high end strat and squiers, this guitar sounds better than my squier but on par with my american standard. buy it, you need it.

I Got Mine - You Get Yours

      By DedicatedFenderOwner

      from MI

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I just got my Fender Classic 50's in Surf Green. I am in love. The quality is amazing. The body contours are beautifully done and sanded well so you can't see a flat line where the radius meets the flat of the body. The finish is perfect. And is there really any cooler color than Surf Green? The nut is well spaced and the string depths are perfect. The neck is a beauty. Mine has a nearly quartersawn piece of maple, and the tint in the finish is a little darker than I have seen in the past. It gives it a very nice well aged appearence. I replaced the stock pickguard with a WBW three ply so it matched by 62 reissue Jazz bass - also in surf green. I did think that the original 50s is a little thin for my liking. I have been playing it through a Fender Blues Jr and the sound and tone is everything you'd expect. I ordered the Strat and had to wait three weeks for it, but was worth it. Some of the Classic 50's I have seen the the stores have not been as nice as mine - especially the nut string spacing and depth, so I suspect they were older builds. Buy one - play it - love it. My hat off to Leo and everything he did for us musicians.

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

1 word... woah ! Was fortunate enough to play this ealier today in a local guitar shop, yeah its Mexican but its still a beaut. The neck is amazingly comfortable and, despite being coated in poly, very easy too play. Pickups are great - just play with the tone control and your sorted for anything (: The finish is flawless however looked more pink than red in brighter light. If you do one more thing today.... BY THIS !!

It's like stepping back in time

      By Guitarpickingirl

      from Colon, MI

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought my classic 50's Strat used and it's one of my prized possesions. I can't vouch for the way these guitars are made now but mine is almost 10 years old and it's solid. I've always had a thing for Fender guitars; they are so classic! The feel and playability of these guitars is amazing and the colors are awesome too! The vintage style hardware and aged parts set these guitars apart from others. I really like the feel of the neck; I think it's easy to play unlike many guitars today that you can hardly get your hand around. The pickups are fine but I'm thinking of replacing the bridge pickup with a Seymour Duncan Hot Rail for some fatter sound. When I bought this guitar someone had already put an 11 hole White Pearl pickguard on it. If you want your guitar to look exactly like a 50's Strat then you might not like it but I think it looks even better than it originally did so I had my guitar tech drill the 3 extra holes so that it looked correct and I love it. Overall this is an amazing guitar and I don't ever plan on getting rid of it. I don't think you'll be disappointed with this axe.

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Let me start off by saying I have owned many fender strats. Three American standards, an American deluxe, an American deluxe with lace sensors, and a mexican standard. This guitar's pickups sound better than my standard american pickups and as good or better than the deluxe. It feels really good for a 7.25 radius. Tremolo is docked which is great for me personally. I played two new american professional series guitars that were double the price and they were set up worse than the Mexican 50s player guitar and the pickups sounded duller. The only bad thing is I need to raise the action slightly to allow bends on the higher frets with the high e string. Feels great with 9s. The American guitars fender puts out now are worse than the early mid 2000s guitars. My 2005 Mexican standard was an okay guitar, however this new 50s fender is a step up in sound quality and craftsmanship. The American professional series was terrible. I only have a 2002 standard american strat and this 50s player now and I prefer the sound of the 50s player, however the setup is better on my american standard at the moment because it got a pro setup. A new american fender is not worth the money. This guitar is as good as the old american standards in quality except the pickups sound better.

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've had my model of this Strat for nearly 11 years now. I ended up switching out the tuners, also I put some Lace Sensor pickups in it as the stock pickups in it were a little weak. All in all great guitar to have if you can't afford a Fender American Strat and don't mind modifying it a bit.

Comments about Fender Classic Series '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is one of the most amazing guitars I've ever played--and I've played everything! Fastest neck and superb sound. Especially if you like to slide your fingers alot--the 50's style neck is the best part, it has a very curved fret-board (This has a 7.5 radius, vs 10" or more for other Fender models, and 12" Gibson--very flat) I can wrap my hand completely around it and use my thumb like Jimi! and the low profile frets are just wonderful, like a fret-less wonder! The sound is simply awesome too! The trebly harmonics plus maple fretboard resonate in a way that my Gibson just doesn't. And it looks really cool too!

This Strat is engineered to spec of 1950's model--complete with all the flaws that make its sound unique and wonderful! Due to zero shielding in the pickup chamber, it has a 60 cycle hum. doesn't bother me, and onstage you just turn up volume when you're ready to play. I may do a shielding job myself one of these days.

I play live and another great thing about maple neck is you can see it in low light bars and on stage.

I didnt realize how great this guitar is until I brought it home and got used to it. It is different playing style, perhaps for more advanced player due to smaller frets which are less forgiving than modern higher frets.

I also own a Les Paul which is the opposite end of the spectrum--also magnificent but different.
