Overview

Pushing craftsmanship to its limits, Fender design, test and endlessly experiment to create the best instruments on the planet. The Jazz Bass, a refinement of concepts first introduced in the Precision Bass, is the earliest example of this philosophy in action. Evolved for today’s musician, the American Professional Jazz Bass V combines modern features and materials with Fender’s craftsmanship and expertise to produce a truly contemporary bass.

Speedy, powerful and articulate, the Jazz Bass quickly carved out a niche for itself when it was released in 1960. The slim, ultra-fast neck and slick offset-waist styling made it a favorite of bassists everywhere. Funk, fusion, disco and, of course, modern rock all owe a life debt to the fantastically versatile Jazz Bass.

Developed by pickup master Michael Bump, the brand-new V-Mod single-coil Jazz Bass pickups use a carefully selected blend of alnico magnet types for balanced tone with authentic Fender sonic DNA. Designed for comfort and performance, the slim modern “C”-shaped neck profile feels just right nestled in your hand, becoming one with you, while the narrow-tall frets provide a familiar playing feel and perfect intonation.

Posiflex graphite support rods run the length of the neck, adding stability to the neck while resisting warping. The redesigned tuning machines use a fluted shaft, creating the optimum break angle over the nut while keeping the string windings tight for increased sustain and enhanced tuning stability.

The best of yesterday and today, the American Professional Jazz Bass is the latest form of electric inspiration from Fender. Step up and stake your claim to a legend. Includes hardshell case.

Comments about Fender American Professional Jazz Bass Rosewood Fingerboard Electric Bass:

Fender came through on the Jazz Bass that I bought. Though I bought mine from a local shop, the one I picked up has quickly become my favorite instrument to play. The shape of the neck feels a lot more natural for me than that of most of the other bass guitars I have played. I like the direction Fender went this time around. Even at the body, I'm still not playing on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. The satin finish on the neck itself is very comfortable and smooth compared to my other instruments.

As for the tone of this guitar, it does exactly what I want it to. It gives good response on both the bridge and neck pickups. The tone knob is highly-responsive, and I can pretty well say that it makes switching from my normal, treble-rich and percussive sound to a more-subdued sound for acoustic sets a lot easier to do quickly. The pickups, compared to an active model I played at the same store, are unique in their own right. The only downside (as with all single-coil pickups) is the 60-cycle hum under florescent lights. Get a noise gate.

The first time I played, I ran the guitar through an Ampeg Pro Neo 4x10 with an SVT-7 head. My savings came down between the Fender and a Ric 4003, and a Fender was the only option close to home to try. (I can't go all the way to Willcutt at the drop of a hat.) The sound was very percussive (owing to my playstyle), and I could still drag a good bit of heavy low end out of it to thump the room. (I had also tried the active "Elite" model, though I preferred the layout and pickups on the passive model.)

Though I would have preferred a different finish (flake green appears to be a custom-only thing), the Olympic White model I have is very easy on the eyes. I would describe the appearance as being likened to ivory, kind-of an off-white that doesn't blind my church congregation. I was not a fan of the mint green pickguard though, and bought a pearloid one to replace it. The rosewood fretboard sets the body finish off very well.

Comments about Fender American Professional Jazz Bass Rosewood Fingerboard Electric Bass:

This bass is killer. The narrow tall frets and the high mass bridge provide tone and sustain for days. The new breed of pickups are powerful beast for a passive bass. Fender hasn't made a natural finish in years...beautiful bass!
