Overview

Packed to the gills with Fender's latest revolutionary innovations, the American Elite Jazz Bass is an active bass for the modern bassist who demands cutting-edge tone technology along with timeless style and fast, smooth playing feel. Its versatile sound easily matches any playing style—picked, plucked or slap-and-pop—while its standout looks remain authentically Fender, with a fresh twist.

With the exclusive all-new fourth-generation Noiseless pickups they’ve achieved the sonic equivalent of cold fusion —vintage-style response with completely noise-free performance. These muscular pickups are fueled by a redesigned robust 18-volt preamp cranks up the power for even more signal quality for chest-thumping tone with more headroom and reduced noise. Designed for fast playing and effortless position changes, the compound profile neck with a 9.5”-14” compound radius fingerboard is ideal for all playing styles. A modern “C”-shape at the new genuine bone nut, the profile morphs along the length of the neck to a modern “D”-shaped profile at the updated neck heel, providing plenty of comfortable support for fret hand antics. Posiflex™ graphite support rods run the length of the neck, adding stability to the neck while resisting temperature and humidity-induced warping. The HiMass™ Vintage bridge increases note attack and resonance for thunderous bass lines with colossal punch and boundless sustain while allowing either top-load or strings-thru-body stringing. In a vintage-inspired touch, the new truss rod adjustment wheel has been moved to the butt end of the neck for easier access, making neck relief adjustments a snap.

This bass is packed with Fender’s immortal aesthetics— from the ergonomic contours to the black chrome headstock logo, large pearloid fret markers and new color this instrument will pin the audience’s ears back with it’s gigantic tone and slick style. The American Elite Jazz Bass is a bold new bass for adventurous bassists who need a tonal multi-tool that refuses to compromise on any front. Includes a redesigned Elite Molded Case with body-hugging contours to provide increased protection for your cherished instrument and TSA locks.

Comments about Fender American Elite Jazz Bass:

This bass plays like butter and is lightning fast. I have smaller hands and am a bit older so my hands don't move like they used to, but this bad boy helps me play easier and sound great. Fender out did themselves with this baby for sure with great powerful features and US Fender quality. I own a P-bass and always wanted a JB but once I picked this up, it was love at first sight. It's a bit pricey but worth it for me as this could be my last....unless Fender does it again!

Comments about Fender American Elite Jazz Bass:

This bass is like no other. The active pups are smoking hot and have such a fat tone. Also, the champagne color is beautiful and well done. I couldn't leave the guitar center once i picked it up.

Comments about Fender American Elite Jazz Bass:

Best in black with maple neck and black inlays, genre neutral so good for country or metal. And now with real electronics that make the instrument sound good. Only gripe is the shorter scale neck and the price is a touch steep.

Comments about Fender American Elite Jazz Bass:

This is by far the nicest bass I have ever played. I've spent several months at my local GC trying out every bass that I thought might work for me (and all the drums and cymbals I could reach, which surprisingly increased my sensitivity to high quality tone more than trying basses, even though that makes no sense to me since I'm a bassist that doesn't even know how to play drums yet). Although I've seen some nice basses, none of them were quite "it"--but this one sounded absolutely perfect. I held off buying it for a while because it didn't have 24 frets, and I really need that high G for exercises I adapt from lead guitar books to study melody. But after my ears got so tuned to high quality instruments by trying out so many, I couldn't stand playing for several hours a day on my $250 bass at home anymore (the phrase "death by cheap bass" comes to mind), so I bought the American Elite Jazz bass. It's amazing and worth every penny, especially if you aim to play professionally. If you want to tell the difference between this and another bass, play both along with recordings from well known pros, and you'll hear that this bass is like the high quality stuff they're playing. I really love how the tone controls can change the sound of the bass dramatically--the passive tone is very warm, and the active is very cold and hard if you change the dial and the switch to both be all active, so this bass can go everywhere from metal and rock to jazz, and probably every other genre you can imagine so long as you're willing to figure out the combination of settings that will give you the sound you're looking for. One of the other reviewers mentioned not liking the "shorter scale length"--I measured, and it's a 34" scale length, just as advertised, which is technically still long scale. I suppose that person was used to a 35" 5 string. So if you read that review and are concerned the specs listed aren't accurate, don't worry--it is a 34".

Comments about Fender American Elite Jazz Bass:

The name of this instrument is its own review. Fender American Elite. What more needs to be said? But I'll try. As I am well into my "middle-age-crisis" years, I am reuniting with the same members of a bar band I played in thirty years ago and purchased this bass for that purpose. This is the eighth bass guitar I've owned. The true range of tonal possibilities of this instrument is beyond what I have had time to explore and the craftsmanship is superb. The neck inlays, hardware and the natural finish make this one of the most beautiful intruments on the market. It is lightweight and playable and melts like butter in your hands. I traded-in my Rickenbacker 4001 which I owned for over thirty years. Never, in my wildest dreams, did I ever think I would part with that bass. But after playing the Fender, it was an easy choice to make.

James and Jesse at Guitar Center Columbus were very helpful and patient with the trade-in process (and are forced to work without the benefit of a posted and much needed "No Stairway To Heaven" sign!).

Comments about Fender American Elite Jazz Bass:

I wanted a Fender JB, since I've always loved the sound of it. I was struggling either to buy this model or the Jaco Pastorius' signature one (love JP, even though the models are very different). Since I was flying from far away and they don't have this model in my country, I figured "what the heck?, I'll buy the best one I can get". I mean, the wood in this bass is superb, very confortable to handle, pickups are top-notch, everything in the bass is (extra) high quality!... so, I did get the best.

Downsides: almost none, except that it's a bit pricey and I wish it had a longer scale.

I would definitely recommend this bass to anyone who wants to elevate their musical proficiency.
