Overview

The Epiphone Sheraton-II PRO honors Epiphone's most influential thin-line semi-hollowbody electric archtop, now with critically acclaimed ProBucker pickups with coil-tapping and a Graph Tech NuBone XL nut.

An Epiphone Icon: Hailed by blues legend John Lee Hooker as "an outdid 335," the Sheraton has been renown for decades for its combination of superior tone and beautiful pearloid and abalone inlay. Originally released in 1959, the inspiration for the "thin-line" or ES Series has its roots in Les Paul's first solidbody guitar, "The Log," that Les built in Epiphone's factory in Manhattan in 1940.

"The Log" was made from Epiphone parts with a 4" x 4" piece of pinewood down the middle. The ES Series is also semi-hollow with a solid center, which makes it more resistant to feedback than a typical archtop guitar.

Inside the Epiphone Sheraton-II PRO: "The Outdid 335"
John Lee Hooker described the original Sheraton as an "outdid 335" for its striking fingerboard inlay, classic shape, and elegant ivory and black binding on the top, back, neck, headstock and f-holes. The new Sheraton-II PRO has the same profile and is made from laminated maple and topped with a bound "tortoise" style pickguard with a signature metal "E" (for Epiphone) and the same classic binding.

The Sheraton-II PRO has a hand-set 5-piece laminated hard maple/walnut 24.75 in. scale neck with a beautiful rosewood fingerboard with block and triangle pearloid and abalone inlays, 22 medium-jumbo frets, and a large vintage-style "tree of life" motif "Clipped Ear" headstock. The Epiphone Sheraton-II PRO also now comes with the new Graph Tech NuBone XL nut that is as hard as bone but will last a lifetime without chipping or cracking. Graph Tech molds and engineers each NuBone XL nut for consistent tone and string balance as well as precise string spacing.

ProBucker Humbuckers
The Epiphone Sheraton II-PRO now features new critically acclaimed ProBucker humbuckers. The first humbuckers (often called "Patent Applied For" for the tell-tale sticker found on the back of the pickups) were made at the Epiphone/Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan in the late '50s and have acquired a mythical status among guitar players. Epiphone ProBucker pickups have that elusive tone because they are made with the same alloy as the originals - 18% nickel-silver unit bases and covers - along with Sand cast Alnico II magnets and high quality 4-conductor lead wire. Each ProBucker pickup is also vacuum wax potted to eliminate microphonics.

The Epiphone Sheraton-II PRO has a ProBucker-2 in the neck position and a slightly hotter ProBucker-3 in the lead position. Both pickups also have coil-tapping via their individual volume controls. Coil-tapping allows a player to turn a humbucker pickup into a single coil pickup for endless tone combinations. Each ProBucker pickup' volume and tone control use 1 500K Ohm potentiometers along with a 3-way pickup selector with an ivory-colored toggle cap.

Epiphone Gold Hardware
The Epiphone Sheraton II-PRO has rock solid nickel hardware in elegant gold with an unbeatable LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and StopBar tailpiece combo. Tuning is easy and reliable with gold Grover Rotomatic machine heads with a pro-level 18:1 tuning ratio. The Sheraton-II PRO is strung at the factory with D'Addario 10-46 gauge strings.

I compared this to the Gretsch G5420T and the Epi 339 Pro. This edged out the 339 on overall sound and beat out the Gretsch for it's versatility with the coil taps. Overall, I've been very happy with this guitar. Solid build and finish. I will note that the finish on the guitar was much darker than what appears in many of the pics. It is a deeper wine red - almost black in some lighting.

I was very excited when it showed up. Gorgeous. tuned it up, (3 or 4 times) in the first hour. Nice sound through head phones. It was night time. I had read the reviews. A few of them mentioned how it was already setup , out of the box. Not so for me. The nut was so tall, that an F was more F#.
My fingers kept pulling the High E off the fret board. Hmmn. Turns out the nut was cut a little too close to the the edge. Looking closely, the High E string was right next to the fret bevel. Then noticed the medium jumbo frets were indeed on the jumbo side. I press kind of hard, so when I played this guitar a lot of the notes were wrong, even after tuning
The following day, took it to a local park. cool and windy. with an amp. It didn't like temp change or the wind. re-tune and re-tune for an hour. I could not reproduce the great sounds from the headphones of the previous night. I think the really long neck is just weak. Sorry to say, I took it back the next day.
P.S. I admit being very picky, but not uppity. My go to guitar is a $300 Ibanez AF81 Arch top.

Comments about Epiphone Sheraton-II PRO Electric Guitar:

I bought the Sheraton Pro II in October and I absolutely love it! I was looking at the Sheraton guitar and was reading complaints about the pick ups so I held off on buying one and then the new Sheraton Pro II came out with completely new humbucker pick ups so I bought it. I am really glad that I did. It sounds great there are no feed back or humming problems when I'm playing with my band or practicing. Has great sound for rhythm or playing leads. This is a guitar I will keep and keep playing forever it truly is now my go to guitar. The only complaint is the way it sits on my shoulder do to the strap connections if you do not hold onto it the neck will slide down towards the ground.

Comments about Epiphone Sheraton-II PRO Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar more every time I pick it up. Build quality is amazing. The Grover tuners are incredibly smooth and the strings move effortlessly through the high quality nut. I replaced the strings as soon as I got it home with D'addario 10-46 XL's and adjusted the bridge height. The intonation is spot on and no fret buzz. Action is nice and low at the first and 12th fret. I love the sound I get out of the ProBuckers. I mainly play with the Bridge Humbucker for clean, blues sound. The single coil splitting feature is nice for some extra versatility. I can't believe how nice this guitar is built for the price. The 5 ply binding on the headstock is flawless. The "tree of life" inlay" has beautiful color in it with good lighting. Bound neck with abalone, pearloid inlays. Wow!!! I have Fenders, Gibsons, and a PRS. This guitar rivals all of them. Love it. I like the D shape feel of the guitar neck. Frets are well polished and bends are effortless. New design of the tailpiece keeps it clipped it place for string changes instead of falling out like the old style. TOM bridge is also nicely secured in place. 5 ply binding on the Tortoise shell pick guard is very nice. I tried to think of something negative to say but I am speechless. I repair/adjust all of my own guitars and have built guitars from parts/kits, but this is a joy right out of the case. Great Bargain, Guitar Center made me an awesome deal on it as they always take good care of me. I had my heart set on an Epiphone Lucille, but this was in stock on the shelf and I could not imagine being happier with any other semi-hollow guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Sheraton-II PRO Electric Guitar:

I wanted a 335 but didn't want to pay the price so I decided to give this a try. It has not disappointed. This guitar feels just as solid as my Gibson LP. It holds it tune just as well, in fact it came out of the box nearly in tune. I was worried because this is the first guitar that I have bought that was made in China. When I took it out of the box I looked over every inch and I could not find anything wrong with the finish or the set up. My only word of caution is that I got the red wine finish and it was more of a blood (dark) red which I think looks much better with the gold trim. It has a much warmer look.

First off, this guitar build is solid and a great guitar for the price, however...that said it can be an awesome guitar if the electronics are replaced. So, I replaced the two pickups with Seth Lover SH-55n (neck) and SH-55b (bridge). I also replaced the volume and tone pots, 3 position switch, output jack and wiring harness.

So...this guitar now ROCKS with awesome tone....sweet high end. If you like Larry Carlton's tone...this is it!!!

Very versatile guitar anywhere from easy listening to classic rock & roll. Well balance weight for standing or sitting. Great looks.

I was trying to decide between this and the casino and I choose this....BIG MISTAKE!!! It looks very cool but, the fret board has no mobility. It was a little twangy for what I was expecting (especially for humbuckers). The casino sounded way better and I was happy when i returned the Sheraton for the casino.

Comments about Epiphone Sheraton-II PRO Electric Guitar:

I can't say what I enjoy more, looking at it or playing it. It's that beautiful. OK, playing it is just a ball.
The required set up was fast. Dropped the bridge, set intonation, played with pickup height and neck relief. It all took an hour. Nothing I didn't expect.
What I did not expect were the results. I got the strings incredibly low while maintaining tone and sustain. That does not happen often with even the most expensive guitars, and I have over thirty. Mine cover a wide range of prices with this being close to the least expensive. But quality wise, this would rate near the top.
I've avoided tapped humbuckers for years because the tapped tones were weak to my ears. When I plugged a Sheraton into a Vox AC30 (at GC) I was knocked over by the tones, both tapped and humbucker sounds.
Generally, the rest of the guitar is as high quality as I've experienced regardless of brand or price-point.
It's not a cheap guitar, even though the price tag may hint so. Compared to several other semi-hollows, this will surprise you. It certainly did me.
I might note that the guitar is Indonesian regardless of what some advertising may state. Don't let that change your thinking. The Chinese and Korean models are incredible instruments. And this is their equal right down to the strap pins.
(thanks to Coleen at the Charlotte GC for her patience.)

Comments about Epiphone Sheraton-II PRO Electric Guitar:

Man I can't say enough good about this guitar, I've owned mine for close to 2 years now. I was reluctant about this because of it's Made in China origin. I'll agree with many in that MIC guitars have come a long way as far as quality for the buck so don't rule them out, especially if you don't have much coin to spend. Mine is black, fit and finish are very nice, Grover tuners are nice, tune-o-matic bridge is good, the nut is cut well, no buzz or sharp fret ends at all, the binding looks nice, set up was great right out of the box-didn't check intonation but bet it's still very close.

This is the first electric guitar I've bought that I didn't immediately want to rip apart and modify. Mine is still bone-stock after 2 years. The more I play the Pro-Bucker pick ups the more I like them. Others have complained about these pup's but I have no qualms-they sound great to me in single coil or hum bucker mode. The Pro Buckers handle gain and distortion well but also provide nice cleans if that's your thing (it's not my thing, I'm always running OD or dist).

Lastly, I'll mention this guitar feels like a solid, well made axe should when you pick it up and it looks just dead sexy. It is a tad front heavy so I recommend strap locks asap. Don't drop the baby! This is a darn good, if not great, option for a 'poor man's' 335 or Lucille or whatever. The Sheraton Pro II is one of the best equipped, budget hollow body guitars you can buy. I hate to say it but I also have a Gretsch 5420T and modded MIM 72 Tele Custom and the Sheraton is likely my favorite due to it's playability and versatility with the coil-tapped pick-ups. Not that either of my other guitars are bad in any way, I guess I just feel more rock-starrish playing my Sheraton. I don't plan to ever get rid of my Sheraton, MIC or not!

Great guitar, well setup out of the box. Had to buy it twice because everytime ive done an instore order the guitar is somehow less than perfect. The shipped version was perfect. I havent had a good experience with any instore purchaces from guitar center on any guitar over 300$.

It's been a long time since I've owned an electric guitar but this one feels and sounds right. Love the twangy lows and the screaming highs. Lightning fast neck and it looks beautiful. Price is right too.
