Overview

When you're ready play live, the PRO-1 Ultra can plug into any size PA or amplifier with the Shadow Performer preamp and NanoFlex pickup system, the same pickup system found in Epiphone's legendary Masterbilt guitars as well as many other classic Epiphones. The PRO-1 Ultra also features a solid Spruce top for superior sound with beautiful 5-layer ivory and black binding just like Epiphone's vintage classics along with all of the PRO Collection's breakthrough innovations. Epiphone, one of the world's oldest and most respected guitar makers, has just made playing and learning guitar easy for everyone.

Designed by Professionals to be easy to play
Creating a truly easy-to-play guitar wasn't easy. Epiphone takes making a great guitar seriously, no matter what the player's level. So Epiphone rethought the guitar from top to bottom to make an instrument that anyone can play right away. The result is a truly "PRO" guitar that's easy-to-play, easy-to-own, and most importantly, delivers the full, vibrant sound Epiphone is known for. The PRO-1 Ultra acoustic-electric guitar is the result of exhaustive analysis, numerous technological innovations, and suggestions from a "who's who" of professional players. And now it's time to plug in and play.

Less fatigue
Wrap your hand around the PRO-1 Ultra neck and you'll immediately feel how comfortable it is. The EZ-Profile neck is designed so your hand can easily form chords without feeling fatigued.

Effortless Fretting
Epiphone JumboPRO frets make fretting notes and chords seem effortless. JumboPRO frets are taller and wider than smaller frets. So, when you push down a string, it's easier to make string contact with the fret with less hand fatigue and finger friction.

Shorter is Easier
Scale length is the distance from the saddle to the nut. The shorter the scale length, the "looser" the strings feel. Because the PRO-1's scale length is almost 1 in. shorter than most acoustic guitars, the strings are under less tension so you don't have to press hard to get good tone. And - since the frets are closer together - making chords is easier.

Make friction fiction
String and fingerboard friction not only slows your playing but also can hurt. The PRO-Ease string and fingerboard coating provides sleek, smooth action with reduced string noise.

No pain, no gain?
Nonsense-Epiphone believes in "no pain." Lighter gauge strings are easier to play so every PRO-1 is set-up and equipped with Epiphone Ultra-Light strings.

Easy action
With Epiphone's Dual-Action truss rod, you can adjust the neck in both directions, which not only stabilizes the neck but also makes set-up easier and more precise.

The photos are of the first guitar that arrived - and no, those aren't flash reflections. While the finish appeared 'bleached' in spots, the quality control tags were all initialed as 'passed'. After sending the first Pro-1 back, the second guitar had a much better finish, though it still didn't have the on-board tuner as advertised. As there were no others in stock, Guitar center and I settled 'out of court' for an add-on Snark tuner. The strings weren't as advertised, either - my caliper shows the 'E' string to be a .10, and not the .09 as listed in specifications. That may be picky, but I'd like to see what this thing would do with super light strings! So far, I haven't been able to find an Epiphone set with a .09. Okay, now for the positive part of the review: Both guitars played great. This acoustic plays like an electric - the action is low, the thinner body does make it easier to hold for long periods, and every note on a barre chord rings nicely. The whole objective of this guitar is for easy playability, and it achieves that goal. Its ability to hold tune is only fair - but then, the woods and craftsmanship aren't the finest. This is a budget guitar, and doesn't pretend to be a high-end instrument. It took a little tweaking and peaking to get it set right - and a proper set-up from a trusted luthier won't hurt. All that said, this is a great guitar for putting on a stand next to the couch. It's easy and fun to play, and would make an excellent first acoustic. It doesn't have a BIG voice, but then, you don't have to sing over it as loud, either.

Avoid this guitar. Wake up Epiphone.
Build quality low grade from Asia.
Never had any acoustic guitar even no name brand and cheaper price had bridge split from top.

Comments about Epiphone PRO-1 Ultra Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is easy on the hands and has very good tone quality, bending notes effortless.Guitar was shipped to store and arrived ready to play. Technician looked it over and said all it needed was playing. The Shadow Performer Series Pickup works well, tuning takes a little getting use to but it's fine.I own an FT45-D Epipi and a Less Paul both with D necks, but find the C neck design very comfortable. Having had two hand surgeries and being an active hobby player over 25yrs this guitar delivers what was advertised, less fatigue and easy fretting. Guitar finish is perfect.Band member commented that it played almost as smooth as his solid body,"almost".lol For the money it's a good buy.

If you are small like me, 5'8" tall with small hands, this is your acoustic. Practical, economical, constructed way above it's price range. You will pick it up quite frequently and go at it! GREAT VALUE!

Comments about Epiphone PRO-1 Ultra Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

No complaints with this instrument. I have read some of the negative reviews and I'm happy to say that none of their issues have been experienced with my guitar. No fret buzz at 12, strings are light and responsive, onboard tuner works as well as my Korg. Many years ago a owned a Martin D28. This is by no means equal to that guitar but for the money, I'm a happy camper. Perhaps a year from now this acoustic/electric will crack, blister, and implode but I don't see that happening. My Epy Les Paul has held up well and I expect nothing less from the PRO-1 Ultra.

The jury is still out on the performance of this guitar. I think I am spoiled by the sound of my Yamaha. The Pro-1 does play through any of my amps. You can't say that about all acoustic-electric guitars.
The service from Guitar Center was great. I received the guitar in two days and it was well packaged. Thanks!
