Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar Package:

I use this for Bluegrass, folk, and classic acoustic rock. I have owned many vintage acoustics including several 50s Martin D28s. I have been on a bluegrass kick and have really gotten into Tony Rice. His tone is incredible, and my vintage guitars simply did not have that deep sound and punch that I can hear on his recordings. Particularly, I was looking for the sound that Tony got on his Church Street Blues and Manzanita Recordings. My 2017 HD28V has that sound. I love vintage guitars and this is the first new one I have bought in many years. However, it is a keeper and out performs any previous vintage Martins and my vintage 1960 Gibson Country Western, 67 Hummingbird, etc. The action is maybe a tad higher than I like on my other guitars, but I have gotten used to it and don't want to make any adjustments. I also had recently ordered and returned a really nice custom shop Martin D28 1955 CFM IV reissue from another company. It was very nice, but I returned the 1955, because it sounded more like my Gibsons or my 64 D18. However, the HD28v has the sound and I could hear it the minute I picked it up and strummed hard. Fit and finish is great. I like the vintage style neck and through saddle. While the HD28v does not have the adirondack top or hide glue, it honestly doesn't need them. It truly sounds great. The only modifications I have made are that I replaced the stock Martin open gear tuners with Waverly Nickel tuners, and during that process I used a Homax White Ring remover polishing cloth to polish out the satin finished neck and headstock to match the rest of the guitar. The Waverly tuners were a direct replacement for the stock tuners. It only took about an hour to make the change including replacing the bushings and polishing the neck and headstock. Intonation is right on. I assume this is due to the Plek treatment the guitar receives from the factory. Overall, a wonderful buy.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar Package:

A great bundle for beginners to start learning on. Great pick ups and the bridge is nice. The rosewood fretboard has a nice feel, and the guitar has a nice finish. I'm not a huge fan of bolt on necks, but its whatever. Overall a great bundle!
