Overview

Epiphone presents the 2017 Les Paul SL, the most affordable 2-pickup Les Paul ever made with a slim lightweight Poplar body with powerful Epiphone Ceramic pickups.

Since the beginning of rock’n’roll, the Les Paul has been considered the ultimate electric guitar and Epiphone’s new Les Paul SL continues that long tradition of innovation with a lightweight Poplar body that’s slimmer than a vintage Les Paul making it easy to hold for new players.

The bolt-on Mahogany neck has a traditional 24.75 in. scale with an easy-to-play SlimTaper-D profile. Even the headstock of the Les Paul SL has the look of a classic Les Paul with Epiphone’s trademark “Clipped Ear” design, the same “Bell-Shaped” truss rod cover seen vintage models, and '60s era Epiphone logo and a “2017” Edition logo on the back of the headstock. Case sold separately.

Ordered this guitar after seeing them at the NAMM convention. The look of a Danelectro is what drew me too it. Having never played it just from the look and price point of the guitar I simply just wanted one. I ordered the black matt finished model. Keep in mind this is not a top of the line guitar here, but for what you will pay it is a very good guitar. Very light weight, plays comfortably, sound is very bright, looks cool. Perfect for just sitting around the house playing/practicing, great for beginners to learn. Out of the box the setup was nice, action I had to adjust a bit. Tuners are a little cheaper but overall I'm very pleased with this inexpensive guitar. Probably will buy another in a different color.

I really didn't expect much for the price but what I received was a half finished guitar. It looks like all the hardware was bulk and these just grabbed what they needed. The finish (color) is crazy thin and basically rubs right off. Oddly enough the the neck/fretboard (not the fretwork) is pretty nice and the intonation with the stock bridge was right on out of the box. The fretwork was a nightmare. Basically half complete. The tuners are junk and you will have to redrill the headstock to replace them. All the wood is really soft (not dry) and dents easily. With that said I made the needed repairs my self and spent less that 25.00 to make a very playable guitar.

I wasn't really expecting much. I was wrong. I got a LOT more guitar than expected. The price and the look was what drew me in. The sound is what I've thoroughly enjoyed. It's very light weight the tone is great. I really can't say enough nice things about this guitar. Great first guitar and great guitar to have around just to play with.

I don't really see the hate behind this guitar. I personally think that this is a great starter guitar with a neat look. My only problem I've seen is that one of the frets buzz a little bit. Besides that I recommend this.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul SL Electric Guitar:

I purchased this little gem for my wife's Mothers Day present. Needless to say she was quite pleased with her yellow guitar! Seriously,
I don't think you can get more guitar bang for your buck. These things are just plain fun and play exceptionally well. The fit and finish are flawless. After throwing an a good set of strings, lowering the action and a quick adjustment of the truss rod this thing plays like butter.
My wife rocked out all day! Great value for so much fun. Just go buy one!!!

          Pleasantly Surprised

          By Adam

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul SL Electric Guitar:

Impulse buy to curb my desire for a non p90 single coil first. Almost went with a squier but I love my Epiphone collection. Price and name alone demanded I try this instead. The bad:. Out of the box, tuners, bridge, and nut all could use an upgrade. They are playable as is and better than a couple other brand $200 guitars I own. Action was crazy high and had to drop the bridge fully to get it close enough and tweek the truss rod to get around some higher frets muting bends. Knobs belong on a toy. They're cheap. Swapped them out immediately. The function as designed just didn't like the look.
The good:. It took me less than an hour to adjust bridge, truss rod, swap knobs, replace strings, and was plugged into a Fender Mustang IV. Sounds pretty darn good. With a lot of help from the amp of choice, I'm able to channel my inner SRV and Hendrix much better than with my other Epiphones. The neck plays very well. No sharp fret ends on mine although I did choose to polish the frets as I felt they could have had a little more attention. Weight is good, comfortable.
Overall:. I'll replace the stuff I'd expect on a $99 guitar. I'm 100% happy I got it. Tempted to get a second for a cheap mod platform.
Guitar center handled the order well, great customer service this time.

          By Richard

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul SL Electric Guitar:

After reading raves about this guitar when if was first released it seemed like a no brainer for the $. What a disappointment! Maybe they rushed the next runs because this so called instrument is a piece of trash. It produces an array of buzzing sounds all over the fretboard as well as on open strings. The nut looks hacked at, the fret edges are protruding and it looks like it was painted by a blindfolded middle schooler with a spray can. Will definitely be returned.

This is simply a poor guitar so you get what you pay for. The tuners are not smooth (at all), the fret board texture was rough and the pickups are terrible. Play the guitar through a distortion or overdrive pedal and the sound is shrill and empty. It's basically a toy.

Ordered the Pacific blue guitar site said new shipment would be coming in on the 7th and I would receive an email when it shipped. The 7th came and went no email. I waited a week then called, guy on the phone said oh that one won't be in until September. And the only one in stock is vintage sunburnt so I got that one .Guitar is fine but if there going to show different colors then they should be in stock and you'd think that they would throw in some picks and a guitar strap for their deceit. Make sure you call and find out what's in stock before you buy online
