Overview

The Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy is a smooth analog delay that takes its heritage from the 1970s Memory Man and the legendary Deluxe Memory Man. The Memory Boy uses the Deluxe Memory Man as a base, expanding upon it with additional modulation features and an optional expression pedal input for external control over delay time or modulation rate.

Memory Boy features a 550ms delay time, allowing you to explore limitless textures. A three-way toggle switch lets you add in vibrato or chorus, or control the delay time with an external expression pedal.

Since the early 1970's, Electro-Harmonix has been designing analog delays featured on some of the greatest recordings and used by iconic musicians throughout the world. From the original Memory Man guitar pedal to the Deluxe Memory Man, still available today, EHX delay pedals are desired instruments for the organic tones that deliver textures that define quality.

Well my sister bought me this on GC at West LA. I wanted an analog delay to put thru the FX loop of my Egnater rebel head. Well, this is 1 nice pedal. What impressed me the most: Warm sound; it has cool modulation and exp pedal capabilities too, and goes perfectly with my amp. Cons: The feedback knob is very sensitive, so the pedal starts to self-oscilate very soon. Besides that, it̴s hard not to buy it. And cost 1/3 of the deluxe MM. Great Pedal

Although I wasn't lying when I said that in terms of features and sound this pedal is very good for the money, I now (6 months later) have to say that Electro-Harmonix has very disappointing quality control for a company of its reputation. My first Memory Boy's overly-expressive modulation circuit got stuck after 6 months of very light use and could no longer be turned down far enough to be bearable. I got a replacement, and that was no good out of the box (at full or near-full delay time, where I usually have it set, there was a horrible ring-modulator-like 2nd note sound). EH should be able to do better than this.

Went for the underdog, got the best.

By Sam

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

I was on a mission to get an analog delay pedal. I wanted a Carbon Copy, but i didn't want to pay that much. That's why i got the Memory Boy. My goodness. This thing blows the pants off of the Carbon Copy. The delay sounds warmer, the modulation is better, and the price is lower. The modulation: The waveform switch it a great feature. The modulation amazingly warm. If you fiddle with the knobs a bit you can use it as a chorus pedal. It can produce a better chorus sound than lots of chorus pedals out there. The thing with this pedal is you have to mess around with it. Play with it. You will run into some great sounds if you just fiddle with the knobs. To sum it all up: Great delay. Well worth the money. It won't disappoint you.

EHX always makes a good pedal

By david

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

So I just got one today, and as soon as I started messing with it at the GC I knew I had to have it. Besides just being a great sounding analog delay, you can add vibrato or chorus with a flip of a switch. Then the nifty feature where you adjust the depth knob and basically select the pitch range you are going to oscillate. But just like every other know it's pretty sensitive and so you have to fine tune it you can't just yank it around looking for a good sound. I found if you change the waveform from triangle to square waves, you can get some real sorta robotic computerized sound, it's real weird but fun to play with, then the delay knob, besides just controlling the delay time, it can determine the oscillation speed. And when you have delay sorta low and feedback just below 12 you can get the reverb effect that sounds great coming from this pedal. Basically I would use this pedal just to get the nice warm reverb sound out of it, but it has tons of extra features that if you play around with I'm sure you'll find. All in all, great pedal, well worth it's cost.

what a sweet delay...

By Jon

from Lewisville NC

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is the best delay pedal I have ever used. That might not be saying much though, as it is my first analog delay. I really like the true bypass and the option for an expression pedal. When you hook up an expression pedal to this thing, you can get some really interesting sounds.

Analog Sweetness

By BRob

from New Haven, CT

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

I'm very proud to say this is my first Electro Harmonix effects pedal. The case is made of sturdy metal, feels solid in the hand. Delay up to 500ms, runaway feedback, expression pedal control. Wonderful sound, rich modulation, crazy sounds can be made. If you want more options opt for the deluxe Mem boy for an extra $60 bucks...if you want simple analog, stick with this.

I play in a Rush cover band and was looking for that right sound. Genuine early analog delay sound. This product really delivers for that special sound and genre. Looking forward to purchasing the Electric Mistress.

          Great and Versatile

          By Drew Sneed

          from Portland, OR

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

I think the main reason a majority of people say that the Carbon Copy is better when they test it against this is because the Memory Boy takes time to master and get great tones out of (not that it is overly difficult you just have to get to know it) while the Carbon Copy is easy to just get the delay you want quickly. But when you take time you will learn that the Memory Boy not only gets delays that are as good as the Carbon Copy and also out of the memory boy you can get some stuff that the Carbon Copy can't offer such as good sounding vibrato, chorus and reverb. You just have to get it set up right. So after testing for a while I came to this conclusion. Carbon Copy: vs Memory Boy: delay = delay self-oscilation > self oscilation quality = quality versatality < versatality options < options price < price So I chose the Memory Boy and am glad I did.

          A sweet little delay

          By Nick Perry-Guetti

          from Portland, OR

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

Very warm and trip-inducing under the right treatment. The modulation is WAY too sensitive, though; turn the depth up to about SW on the dial and it's already too much for me under most circumstances. An analog delay you can control with an expression pedal is a great idea, and this one is cheap to buy!
