My guitarist has this unit and he always tells me how good it is. With that in mind I decided to test it for myself and I found that he was right. This unit enables you to transform your voice to all sorts of odd types (which can add some unique things to a live show). The unit has adequate compression that will make your vocals cut through the rest of the music on stage. The pitch effects can be used to help hit those otherwise impossible notes expanding the range of songs you can perform. This is a very useful tool that I would highly recommend for stage performers.
I've had the opportunity to use four of these over the last few years, and they're decent overall if you're looking for an affordable multi-effect unit for vocals. Three out of the four of them eventually starting working only once in a while (no output, seemingly at random)... but I can only blame that on a bit of wear and tear. Problem is, it was literally only a "bit" of it. Pretty shoddy casing, etc. Not sure exactly what caused them to stop working, as the usage conditions were rather different. The effects sounds very, very digital and thin. I am, however, not really opposed to that. It's a type of feel that one might even be specifically after. Anyway... yes, pretty average device. Seems to not really have any price range competition.
What can I say! When I bought this equipment, I was excited about having more control over my effects and monitor sound. The effects in this unit are really good for the price, and the ease of programming user effects and scrolling from effect to effect on the fly is great; however, I've only been able to use this unit a few times in the last two years because it has not been working properly and has been in and out of the shop. At first, the LED display flickered, so I really couldn't edit my patches. After an 8 week visit to the shop, it worked for a month, then had LED problems again. Back in the shop again! When I got it out this last time, the foot pedal didn't work, so I can look forward to another 8 or more weeks without it. Thanks to this unit, my buyer confidence, especially in Digitech products, is at an all time low!
In a practice setting, the sounds are cool and fun to play with. However... I had a hard time using this live. I am fairly busy on stage with a guitar or keyboard while singing, so the up-down selection of effects ends up being too iffy for me. As well, I had a little bit of a hard time dialing in the right levels for performance.
Bought this pedal a few weeks ago. I will say I do like that the body is metal, alot of pedals these days are constructed of cheap light plastic. The variety of effects is not bad, though some of them are just the same effect with very little to no difference in sound. Some of the effects do sound very cool, but there are some sampled ones that automatically put out feed-back,which is an irritation and I skip by those. For what I need this pedal to do,Ill say it passes the test, and for the low cost that I bought it for it is worth the $.Not a Thumbs up or down,I'd say a Thumbs Sideways...
