Overview

The sound of a great vintage Tele bridge pickup - if you can find one - is almost magical. It blends elements that shouldn't be able to coexist: sizzle and warmth, sharp attack, and smooth sustain. In other words, it has depth. Single notes have weight and presence, and chords have detail and dimension. This was the goal for the True Velvet T Bridge. Controlled-tension coil winding, custom wire and hand-calibrated magnets give the True Velvet The real vintage sound, and double wax potting ensures that it's squeal-free.

Recommended For: Standard Tele bridge position.

Like the Twang King Bridge model, the sonic goal was to combine the best tonal qualities of several Broadcaster and Telecaster pickups from the '50's and early '60's. The difference is the size of the sound. The True Velvet T Bridge is bigger, and there's greater dynamic range, from soft to loud.

The ground wire is black on most products?

Comments about DiMarzio DP178 True Velvet T Bridge Pickup:

So which is it on this particular pickup? I disassembled the guitar, which was no small task and installed this with the black wire as ground. Put is all back together and the PU sounded okay, a little quieter than the stock bluesboy PU but that was okay too. Where it got weird was when I switched over to the center both PU's position. Gain went way down and it was like the bridge PU volume was reduced to 10% although fine on its own. Now do you think I'm going to take it all apart again and reverse the wiring just to see if the instructions were misleading and vague? Nope. Put the stock PU back in. To make matters worse, I ruined the plastic box getting it out so I can't return it.

Comments about DiMarzio DP178 True Velvet T Bridge Pickup:

I built a partscaster and wanted a great sounding bridge pickup. A friend of mine has True Velvets in one of his Teles and he was getting a fantastic sound out of them. I'm not as good as he is, so I wasn't expecting it to sound like his playing. Once I put it together, WOW! It has the growl, the twang, the bite, the sweetness... pretty much anything I want. It works with OD pedals nicely. I love it. Every time I play it, I'm grinning from ear to ear. The price is fantastic too. I can't imagine a boutique pickup sounding any better than the True Velvet. HIGHLY recommended!!!!
