Deering Calico Banjo Natural

Description
The Deering Calico Banjo has a beautiful honey stained curly maple neck and resonator with purfling and ivoroid binding. Mother-of-pearl scroll inlays adorn the ebony fingerboard. The Calico Banjo's neck has a two-way adjustable truss-rod, as do all Deering banjos. Bound in white, the peghead has an elegantly finished look. The slender neck shape is fast and easy to play.
The power, brilliance, and clarity of tone come from our three-ply maple rim, zinc flange, and the Deering -06- 20 Hole Bronze Tone Ring and , combined with a figured Eastern hard rock maple neck and resonator. All Deering 5-string banjos are fitted with a geared fifth string tuner for smooth, easy, and precise tuning.
The inside walls of the resonator are tapered to maximize the sound and give you the instant response and clear tone of a Calico banjo.
At this price point Deering adds two features, they taper the inside of the resonator walls for added projection of tone, and also add the feature of glued in frets. Each fret is fitted to the fingerboard and glued in place so that in the future when the frets are worn out, they can be heated up and the glue will release without chipping the fingerboard. You will gain these benefits on every model from the Calico on up the line.
Tone:
With a brighter tone than mahogany, maple provides a beautiful bass response and great highs. The banjo plays string to string and up the neck at a consistent clarity and excellent volume so it is easily heard amongst a band. Includes case.

Warranty
IF YOU BUY A "NEW" DEERING BANJO FROM A NON-AUTHORIZED DEALER, YOU HAVE PURCHASED A USED BANJO AND HAVE NO WARRANTY. When we send a Deering banjo to an authorized dealer, only that dealer or another authorized dealer can sell that banjo as new. If an authorized dealer sells a new Deering banjo to a non-authorized dealer, the non authorized dealer becomes the first owner and he becomes the bearer of the lifetime warranty; not a new dealer by transfer. When the unauthorized dealer sells that banjo to the consumer, even if it was never played or even touched, it is a used instrument and no longer carries the lifetime warranty. This is necessary so that we know how the banjo has been cared for between the time we ship it and the time that our customers buy it. We have no way of knowing how non-authorized dealers care for their instruments because we do not communicate with them. This also honors and protects the strong relationship between Deering and its treasured network of hard working Deering dealers. For your protection against theft and to ensure immediate proof of ownership, four digits of the serial number are visible on the back of the peghead on each banjo. The full serial number is inside the resonator. When you purchase a Deering banjo and send in the warranty card you will receive a Gold Credit card style ownership/warranty card. This gold card is embossed with your name and the serial number of your new banjo for easy identification. Take your Gold Card with you to festivals or when traveling so that if your banjo is ever stolen you can easily prove it's yours.

This banjo is an overall awesome instrument. Some things to note about it: The tone of the banjo may not be what many bluegrass listeners may be accustomed to. Not saying it has a bad sound, just different. It is a very heavy banjo as is normal for very good banjos. The fit and finish of this banjo is absolutely perfect. The appearance is pristine as well (at least the sample I have) unlike a lot of other instruments that promise beautifully figured woods and deliver lackluster results, this one delivers as promised. The fingerboard of the banjo is noticeably wider than most banjos though I do not find it to be much of a hinderance (in fact some may find it to make playing easier). This banjo might be a bit pricey, but I feel you get your money's worth in this banjo if you are looking for a really nice banjo. I feel it is competitively priced for similar banjos from other makers. Scoring: Sound: 9/10 Playability: 9/10 Fit and finish: 10/10 Appearance: 9/10 Durability: 9/10 I would definitely recommended this banjo for anyone looking for a nice banjo suitable for any need assuming the price level is not an issue.
