This guitar is not a Rickenbacker by any means, but it's pretty darn cool anyway. Especially for the price when you catch it on sale. This semi-hollow version sounds best plugged in, but I love how good it sounds without even plugging it in. And as someone who has very little previous experience with a 12-string, it is very playable. Don't expect a museum-quality instrument, but if you are looking for a starter 12-string, this is a good place to start.

Comments about Danelectro 12 String Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I'm a 12 year old who's been playing for a few years and is in a band. A couple months ago, when my band was in the recording studio, I played a '65 Fender 12 string. Ever since then, I've wanted my own. I was at my local Guitar Center and saw this so I decided to mess around a little. Although I did not buy this guitar, after playing around for a little bit, I liked that it sounded jangly, but other than that, it doesn't do much. Maybe someone more experienced could get more out of it, but that was all I got.

Comments about Danelectro 12 String Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

My dad I went halves and bought this together. we caught it on sale for 350 which is great. He plays it more than me but when I do play it I am always impressed. I have an acoustic 12 string that is much harder to play than the Danoelectro. I would recommend this or a taylor for someone looking for a nice 12 string. the sound is what you would expect of a twelve string with a chorus effect when you play two strings. it's very comfortable and light since it's a semi hollow body. the only issues we've had is one of the control knobs became loose and fell out of the guitar. my dad fixed it though. the action has also taken a dive recently as the tension on the neck (which is twice what a 6 string would have) is pulling the neck up. a quick adjustment would likely fix that though. the pickups are good for a lot of styles but sometime I feel they come up short of what I'm going for. they're no so great for high gain stuff. on clean channels though they sound much better.

Comments about Danelectro 12 String Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I have approx 20 acoustic guitars, mandos, etc. and this is only my 3rd electric guitar so I'm no expert on electrics. But this guitar is truly fun to play and for the money, I can't imagine how it could be improved anywhere. Well setup and near perfectly tuned out of the box. Once I tweaked the tuning, every string was exactly in tune at every fret even up past the 12th fret. Even my most expensive acoustics don't give me that.

Comments about Danelectro 12 String Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

A couple of years ago I traded my Rickenbacker 360/12V64 for a new Martin. The Ric was too expensive for club gigs and somewhat difficult to play with it's narrow neck. My backup, a vintage Ibanez doubleneck is nice but weighs a ton. A good friend since HS has always been a Danelectro fan so when I saw this one on sale I jumped right in. Very comfortable to play. Historical lipstick pickups provide nice tone. Then there's that Danelectro Look. Loving it so far with every amp I have.

Comments about Danelectro 12 String Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

This guitar is quite awesome, especially for the price. I had been browsing around in Guitar Center, just picking up different guitars and basses and checking them out, with no intention to buy anything. I had played maybe fifteen different instruments without being very impressed. Then I saw this one and took it down to play a few riffs. Wow! Was I surprised. The tone of this guitar is impeccable. And for a 12 string, it's really easy to play. I played a few rhythm riffs that I'd been working on with my Les Paul, and suddenly I heard things in a whole new way. A Les Paul with a chorus pedal can't touch the native tone of this little beauty. Although I had no plans to buy another guitar, I knew I could not leave the store without her. I spent about twenty minutes getting acquainted with her and then bought her on the spot. Back at home I plugged her into my Orange CR-120 and cranked up the volume pretty good, setting the tone to flat with just a compressor and a touch of reverb. Not a bit of feedback and the pickups were quiet as field mice. The intonation was perfect, the action was super low, and no fret buzz, and the bridge and tuners are super quality. I couldn't be happier. I know these guitars are made from unconventional materials, but so what! With tone this sweet I wouldn't care if it were made from cardboard. I can't find a single thing that I don't love about this guitar.

Comments about Danelectro 12 String Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

It sounded good. Nice crisp clean semi hollow 12 string. I was playing and recording through my DAW which I use Waves GTR plugins for my 'amps'. After a couple of weeks I went to my 2001 Custom 22 PRS and realized that the Dan12 did not sound very good after all. Still understandable as PRS and Danelectro are not anywhere near each other in quality. But the deal breaker came when I purchased a small amp and the feedback was horrific. I could only stand in one tiny spot to get clarity. I changed cables, moved stuff around and might have even changed shoes to no relief. Plugged no PRS in with the same set up and no hum, I am returning the Dano

Comments about Danelectro 12 String Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

For the money this is quite a nice electric 12-string guitar. When this guitar arrived it was already setup to play. So often when you buy a new guitar, your have to take it into your favorite guitar shop to have it set up properly. In the case of this guitar it was ready to play right out of the box. There is no fret buzz whatsoever as you play up the neck. I do plan on trying to lower the action a little and take some of the relief or slight bow out of the neck to see if I can improve this guitar even further. I also like the width of the neck and the radius of the neck. I have spent a lot of time playing the Rickenbacker 360-12 string and I always had a little problem with the very thin width of the neck. I have also played the Dean Boca electric 12-string extensively as well as the Fender Stratocaster 12 electric. Of these guitar I think that this Danelectro may soon become my favorite electric 12-string. When used with a strap I have found that the guitar is somewhat neck heavy as the neck will drop down when you take your hand off of it. This can be controlled by putting some downward pressure on the body with your right arm.
My main complaint right now is that I can not find a hard case that will fit this guitar. I was hoping that it would fit into a generic Stratocaster/Telecaster case, but the lower bout of the body is too wide. The only think that I can find to carry it in right now is a Fender electric guitar gig bag. I have emailed Guitar Center and several other sources in regards to buying a hard case for the guitar, but no one has responded back. Carrying this guitar to a musical performance (I hate using the word "gig") along with several other guitars, your amps and PA. systems is not feasible as a gig back does not provide adequate projection when being transported next to other instruments. Guitar Center needs to find a hard case for this guitar and make this available for sale at the same time that you purchase this guitar

Great 12 string for the money, realy low action straight from the store. For a 12 string it has a nice slim neck. Easy to play & sounds great. The fretboard is ike silk & the neck is super smoth.
It keeps in tune & is nice & light for as long as I like to play.

This is a fantastic guitar. That it doesnt break the bank only increases its appeal. Ibe been sceptical of danelectros my whole life but never actually had a chance to play one recently. It was the 12 string. I was floored immediately. Look this is not a high end speced out masterpiece. But this is a fun solid guitar that offers a host of uniques fetures. As soon as i played it i new i had to have it. The cheapest guitar in my collection atm. But not the least enjoyable by any stretch.

Comments about Danelectro 12 String Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

The Semi-hollow 12 has such an amazing tone and quality build (Korean made). This guitar captures that bright jangle "Ticket to Ride" and "Dizzy Miss Lizzy" sound spot on, especially the latter. It's great if you're lookin for a good crisp and punchy 60s rythym sound, think John Lennon. The guitar comes out of the factory with low action and stays in tune very well. My only problem with the guitar is that they are selling it too cheap. It deserves to be priced with the higher ends. Says a lot about how committed Danelectro is to quality workmanship and fair prices. This thing is a must buy for the budget guitarist and seasoned professional alike.

Comments about Danelectro 12 String Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I have been playing guitar for 37 years. I own several and this is one of the funnest to play. I have held and played some of the original Danelectros that were made in the US back in the day and I do believe these Korean replicas are much higher quality. The originals were made of plywood and Masonite and were designed to be an inexpensive guitar, but they produced a unique sound. Today's version still produces that unique sound however the hardware, intonation, and precision of the build is much better. This guitar stays in tune amazingly well. One unique feature is that unlike traditional 12 strings the smaller gauge harmonic string is actually in front of the larger main octave string (you strike the smaller one first when strumming down). It is also slightly offset, lower and closer to the main octave string. This allows the string sets to space out a bit without a wide neck, its about like playing a six string. It does not sound anything like a Rickenbacker but it does have that jangly vibe to it. Pickups are dead silent with good volume. it is a semi hollow so don't get too close to your amp it will hum. Overall a very good instrument and comfortable to play.

This is my second danelectro, the first being the baritone model. They are not glamorous or fancy, just a basic guitar. But don't let the materials sour you on any of their guitars. They play and feel great, and sound like much more than their price tag may suggest. Lipstick pickups are very under rated, imho. And for 'one trick pony' guitars like a 12 string or a baritone, it's great to have an affordable but great feeling and sounding guitar to fill that niche without breaking the bank. This 12 string is so light weight that you realize the vast majority of its mass comes from the tuning machines, and it does make the guitar neck heavy.

I did take issue with the way the guitar was sent to me, however. It was simply wrapped in bubble wrap and shoved in a Jackson guitar box. I am used to having a new guitar I buy be shipped in it's origional box, and inside a shipping box. I think someone just took the display model off the rack and sent it to me. I also had ordered the cherry sunburst finish and what arrived looks more like the tobacco sunburst to me. It's not enough for me to exchange it however, especially since I can't be sure how the next one will be shipped out. The one I have arrived in perfect condition despite the way it was packaged.

It is well designed, that is clear. The bridge is awesome in that it allows adjustment of each string. The tuners are high quality and the metal nut also shows they care. This was meant to provide real 12 string playability for a value conscious guitar player. The sound is very good.
