Simply Awesome!!

I have owned a 5.5x14 DW Performance Series natural finish snare for about 1 month now, and it is simply THE best snare drum I have ever owned... It has nice sustain, amazing tone, and when tuned tightly, it has a very nice pop/attack that fits Gospel and Jazz very, very well. Granted, you can tune this snare drum to do anything you want to fit Rock, Metal, Blues, R&B, and many other styles. For the money and the quality, you really can't ask for anything more. Want to hear how it sounds? Go to youtube, and select the video that reads "DW Performance Series Snare" by EnocMunoz... You'll see me giving it the first try, and it sounds SICK! :D

Factory quality control issues, poor construction

I returned this drum after 2 weeks, and I really wanted to like it...The bearing edge and snare bed was poorly crafted, and the shell had many inconsistencies, making it impossible to tune the reso side. My stock pacific FS birch 5" snare sounded better (according to several people blinded to which drum I was playing) Returned this drum to GC in Tacoma and Garrett promptly took it back, also stunned by it's lack of quality. I got a Pearl Masters 14x6.5, and I'm loving it!!

The DW Performance Snare Drum is not the top of the line for DW but I wouldn't throw it out of my collection of snare drums to use for gigs or as a backup snare. It has a big quality sound, where if it is a normal size room the snare drum has no problem filling the room with a snap, crack and a pop. The drum would be versatile in any venue from a small club, a big room or even for playing on the worship team at church. Especially when the soundman is staring at you with a stern, firm look expecting to hear this over bearing pop that drowns out the singers. Instead the soundman is smiling because I'm hitting the drum with the same amount of force I would normally play and not drowning out the singers. The Performance Series is affordable compare to DW Collectors Series Snares. The craftsmanship of the drum is top quality and the drum does not look, feel or sound cheap. If you want a DW I would say start with the Performance Series Snare Drum.

I have the 14 x 6.5 candy apple lacquer, and I'm truly blown away! This is by far the best snare I have ever owned. I was shopping in a guitar center and grabbed this off the shelf to try it out. I was instantly in love. It looks like a million bucks, and SOUNDS like a million bucks. Everything they say about DWs is true. It's so easy to tune. It gives me the exact sound I need. I didn't even bother changing the stock head because it sounded like a dream already. Honestly, I didn't even think that I was going there to get a DW snare, I wasn't sure I could afford it, but after hearing that sound, I knew it was worth it. It also has a great crack when you hit it correctly. It's a great sound for jazz, R&B, Gospel, and much more. You won't regret it.

  • Worth the money amazing sound quality!

I recently purchased this drum and, i am not disappointed. The sound quality is amazing, also it has a really nice look to it (candy apple). The only problem i had with this drum is that due to the fact that DW are made to the order, it was hard to track down one of these drums. Make sure to call the company before you order one to make sure they have one in stock, as when i called they only had select models available.

I've been playing on my 5.5x14 DW Performance snare for a few weeks now, and I really like it. I had been playing on a 6X14 Pork Pie Little Squealer steel snare, and I decided that I wanted to add a wood snare to my arsenal, so I chose this one. I love the mag throw off, and the snare sounds really controlled. It has an even warm tone and pronounced attack. I'm still using the stock head, but it sounded so good out of the box, I just decided to save my money and keep the stock head on for now. I bought the natural lacquer finish, and it's really beautiful. It has excellent build quality and it looks great! If you're looking to add another snare to your collection, or if you're wanting a new versatile main snare, I definitely recommend this one.
