DRs EXTRA-Life Black Beauties offer guitar players a superior black coated string without sacrificing the crisp tone, clarity, and volume of traditional DR HandMade Strings. EXTRA-Life is a super thin advanced .0003" coating on the plain electric guitar strings and on the wrap wire for added protection.
DR's remarkable, and proprietary, patent pending K3T Technology Coating is the first coating that makes no apologies and no excuses. Players say these strings have less unwanted overtones, more volume, great clarity and articulation than standard uncoated strings. Yet, they provide the same protection against corrosion due to humidity and perspiration as well as the increased tonal life coated strings have come to be known for.

Comments about DR Strings Extra Life BKE-9/46 Black Beauties Lite-n-Heavy Coated Electric Guitar Strings:
My background: 32 years as a giging metal player, so my strings take a beating.
First of all DR did not break the laws of physics making a coated string that sounds better than a "standard" non-coated string. (hype) In my opinion, they sound like a duller than normal cryo/nitrogen dipped string. (Strings that last up to 4 times longer but don't have the "brightness" of a regular string) Second, I did not find them any harder to "train" (keep in tune) when installed than any other string I've ever put on, as I've read in some reviews. 3rd, I hate the way DR packages their strings, mixed, as in 6th with 3rd, etc. I've been doing this a long time, and I almost put the high E string in the high B's place, and I would have if I had not double checked. 4, Because the strings are black they are much harder to see on an ebony neck, which can mean some wrong notes hit if you're not paying attention. 5, They do have a smooth surface, which means easier movement along the string, however I found less resistance takes some getting used to. 6, They do look cool, but I'd rather have good sound than looks. 7, The strings are supposed to be 9's, but they are actually like 8's, disappointing.. These strings were "only" tested through multiple amp plugins and not through my stack. A consideration you'll have to make on your own. However, like I said, I've been doing this a long time, and I don't expect miracles in that scenario. It was a fun experiment, and I'm sure that I'll change them out when I get sick of the sound they produce. Hope that helps.
