D'Addario

collapse expand iconDescription

D'Addario's EXL160 Nickel Wound electric bass strings provide bassists with a balanced tone and extended lifespan. With gauges ranging from .050 to .105, these roundwound bass strings are constructed with nickel-plated steel wrap wire surrounding a hexagonal nickel-plated steel core wire. The combination of materials produces a crisp, bright tone with punchy lows, clear mids and singing highs—perfect for any musical style.

Nickel-Plated Steel Provides Optimal Tone and Durability

The nickel-plated steel used in the EXL160 strings allows for a balanced, versatile tone that sits well in any mix. The nickel plating also helps prevent corrosion, allowing these strings to last up to four times longer than ordinary strings. For bassists seeking premium tone and maximum value, the EXL160 strings are an ideal choice.

Precision-Wound for Consistent Performance

D'Addario employs state-of-the-art computerized winding equipment to precisely wrap each string. The result is a consistent wrap pattern and tension for strings that intonate accurately, produce even tone and have a smooth, comfortable feel. With gauges from .050 to .105, the EXL160 set accommodates 4-string basses with scale lengths up to 36".

Built to Last

Like all D'Addario strings, the EXL160 sets are engineered for maximum life. The string cores and wrap wire are precisely drawn to tight tolerances, then wound using D'Addario's advanced computer-controlled winding technology. The result is a string that intonates accurately, produces even tone and has a smooth, comfortable feel throughout its extended lifespan.

    Great sound, consistent quality.

I've been playing these strings for years now, and have never had a bad set. I used to be a devoted Ernie Ball customer, but got tired of their soft West Coast steel. These hardy Rust Belt strings have all of the harmonic quality of the Ernie Ball nickel wound sets, but are stiffer and much longer lasting. They're perfect for basses with one-piece necks, as the strings tend to stay in tune better and add just the right amount of tension. The heavier top gauge is more desirable as well, since it really eliminates the tinny sound of the D and G, which is especially common to the Fender Jazz. Top this all off with one of the best price points in the business, and you've got a real winner here. Bam!

    Die fast

the strings are ok. but they sound like a tin can when you first get them, then when u break them in after a week or two they sound good. but soon after they sound good they die. they lasted me about 2 months, granted i play a lot, but they shouldnt die that fast.

Great string brand. The consistency of these strings over the years has been incredibly good. I use D'Addario strings on all of my basses and most of my guitars. I like that they have a great rewards program and offer string recycling as well. I am happy that they continue to improve their product and packaging. Highly recommended.
