Overview

Select Jazz reeds feature the thickest spine and blank of D'Addario's jazz reeds, with a traditional tip shape. The Select Jazz cut offers great projection, focus and a vibrant sound. They are available in both filed and unfiled models. The debate rages on in saxophone forums all across the web. Filed, or unfiled? The conventional wisdom is that the unfiled are a little less bright, but that they can be pushed to achieve the brightness they fail to display right out of the gate. As to whether that characteristic is an attribute or a detriment, or as to whether that is even an accurate characterization is ultimately up to the individual player. Offered in third strengths, rather than half strengths, so players can choose the most precise strength for their individual equipment.

Comments about D'Addario Woodwinds Select Jazz Filed Tenor Saxophone Reeds:

I've been playing saxophone for over 25 years, and the jazz select reeds never let me down at home practicing or on the job. I use the 3 medium for tenor and that seem to suite me just fine. I use the filed reeds because they give me a more projection to cut through the mix on a live gig. These reeds have the same quality as when the Rico company was own by Boosey and Hawkes. Great product. I can always trust the jazz select reeds to give me quality reeds in every box.

Comments about D'Addario Woodwinds Select Jazz Filed Tenor Saxophone Reeds:

Sorry GC for slamming you earlier about requesting this review from me -- I thought I had already reviewed these reeds.

The Select Jazz reeds for tenor sax are really good! They have a bright sound, so you can compete in a loud band, and they are consistent from reed to reed. The response is good throughout the horn registers.

Out of the box of 5 that I bought, 4 of the reeds are very good, and the 5th reed is still playable, just not as responsive as the other 4. My experience with Vandoren reeds is I'm lucky if half the reeds in a box are good.
