Overview

The Cort MBC-1 Matthew Bellamy Signature Electric Guitar is based upon the official MB1-S series and features a newly designed pickup set from the Manson Guitar Works team together with a discrete kill button.

The new matte black finished guitar incorporates a sleek maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, a solid basswood body, special Manson designed bridge humbucker and true single-coil neck pickup reflecting the layout of several of Bellamy' stage and studio custom instruments. The kill button allows a wide range of guitar effects to be created by the player without resorting to outboard effects. The headstock design features Bellamy' distinct signature together with the Cort logo. The rear of the neck has a gloss finish and Manson logo behind the headstock.

Pickups
The MBC-1 is equipped with pickups developed by Manson Guitar Works especially for this guitar. The versatile setup includes a fully voiced humbucker in the bridge and a true single coil neck pickup reflecting the layout of several of Bellamy' stage and studio custom instruments.

Controls
The controls on the MBC-1 are simple while versatile. There is a single volume control, master tone and a three way switch. This controls the humbucker/ single coil pickup combination. It all works together with the kill button and the overall instrument design to give you a highly creative and great sounding instrument.

Manson Guitar Works has been making custom guitars with over 30 years of experience and is known for its reputation for innovation and quality. They have worked closely with Matthew Bellamy for two decades and build his custom instruments for both studio and stage work.

Matthew Bellamy is the lead guitarist and vocalist of the British rock band Muse. Recognised as one of the best guitar players of his generation, Matthew and the two other members of Muse are currently recording their seventh studio album.

Comments about Cort MBC-1 Matthew Bellamy Signature Electric Guitar:

Now I got this guitar about a month ago, as a christmas gift to myself if you would. I'd been eyeing this guitar for quite a while, being a Muse fan myself, and I was iffy about how this would sound and feel being from a "budget" brand if you would. I pulled the trigger and bought one anyways, as my GAS would not contain itself.

My god, if this isn't one of the best feeling and sounding guitars for the price. I'll just start one by one. Pickups and hardware are great, the Manson designed humbucker gives the aggressive attack and character of Matt's tone while still not just destroying your signal or quality. the single coil is a little lackluster in comparison but it does the job. The frets, action, intonation and everything right out of the box was fantastic, didn't need to do anything but give it a quick tune. The neck is finished and gloss, which honestly is a matter of personal preference (I prefer mine unfinished or satin personally) but I don't mind that much - I haven't had the " sticky hands" people complain about when they talk about it. The fretboard plays spectacularly, Great upper fret access as well. Rosewood was a great choice, though I would have liked Ebony to match the nice matte black finish that followed on the rest of the guitar. The body is super comfortable and surprisingly light, and has the Mattocaster look I've grown to love over the years. Tuning is a breeze and even after playing this thing for a month or so, I've only needed to tune it once or twice, barring the times I switch from Drop-D to Standard or back down.

The only con I can think of is that since my hands are so big, and from the way I play the guitar, that tapping is a little less than opportune on this guitar because of the killswitch button location. This is an issue with me for a lot of different guitars though, Such as a Les Paul, so I'm not going to detract anything from the score for it.

All in all, Coming from a player who loves to pound out Muse riffs but also likes to play a ton of sludge, Prog and metal in general, this guitar is VERY versatile. Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down for quite a while. If you like the shape, go for it.

Comments about Cort MBC-1 Matthew Bellamy Signature Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for a few months now and first off, it's absolutely stunning. The matte black with the rosewood fretboard just looks incredible. At first I was a bit worried about the gloss finish on the neck since I was so used to a satin finish, but it ended up being perfectly easy to play. The Manson humbucker sounds great and the guitar sounds amazing on clean, overdrive, distortion, anything. The killswitch is also a very unique addition. Overall the guitar is light, easy to play, stays in tune, and the sound is amazing and powerful.

Comments about Cort MBC-1 Matthew Bellamy Signature Electric Guitar:

First, I bought this guitar because I am a big fan of MUSE with not very expact this guitar is great.
Becasue I think usually signature guitars are not good as much as thier price.
But this guitar is really much better than price. I have two more guitar which I paid more than 1,000 dollars, but I DO NOT think this guitar has low quality than my other guitars.
I highly recommend for all users and I hope Guitar Center trade more guitar with Manson guitars( which pickup and the owner of this guitar body shape).

Comments about Cort MBC-1 Matthew Bellamy Signature Electric Guitar:

Muse fans and fans of hard rock will love the bridge pickup, while strat fans will love the neck pickup. It's an amazing guitar that has good sustain as well as a great sound, tough hardware, and an amazing look. A big extra that comes with the guitar is the Kill-switch. Though it does make a popping sound while clean, it makes for very interesting playing while fuzzy or distorted. Definitely a guitar to pickup, whether you play heavy metal or clean music.

Comments about Cort MBC-1 Matthew Bellamy Signature Electric Guitar:

I was aware of the guitar because I like Muse, but the idea of playing a fanboi guitar kept me away for a long time. However, my band does the heavy-to-atmospheric switch thing like Muse, and I really wanted a guitar that combined a clear ,single-coil neck pickup sound with an aggressive humbucker sound, would stay in tune, and wasn't a Strat (the Strat spunds, even with humbuckers, never quite did it for me).

Being made in Indonesia and inexpensive, I was not expecting a well-made guitar. My expectations were turned sideways, though. I buy, sell and trade guitars as a hobby, doing setups and repairs before sending them on their way. I've had the usual USA Gibsons and Fenders, a pro-line Gretsch, USA Hamers, even a Black Water and a MotorAve. This guitar is built to a very high standard. The neck pocket is tight, neck is straight, frets level with no jagged edge, and woodwork is sharp and even. Even the bridge seems to be a good one, and the tuners were astonishing, with as smooth and precise feel as anything I've tried. While you could drop a couple bills on TonePros and Hipshot hardware, I don't think you could tell the difference except in your wallet and ego.

The pickups are similarly surprising. Tastes vary and these won't suit every set of ears, but the bridge unit is hot, clear, with an aggressive high-mid punch (expected, given Bellamy's sounds) that sits will in a live band mix. Dunno if it'd be good for djent chug-chug or indie chime-and-strum, but it does Muse. The neck pickup is also very clear, and good for more bluesy-to-Hnedrix stuff with gain, and Explosions In The Sky sort of clear, ringing sounds clean.

If you were doing a blindfolded test and were told they were some kind of unobtanium, scatter-wound boutique units made by a blind wizard in the Carpathians who once built amps for Jimmy Page... you'd probably say "Yeah man, I can HEAR the quality."

                  Overall it's a winner.

Comments about Cort MBC-1 Matthew Bellamy Signature Electric Guitar:

Initially a very good guitar for the price point, and with the pickup configuration I was looking for. I eventually replaced both pickups (the stock pickups are decent, just wanted more), and not long after, the neck bowed. I then discovered that this has a SINGLE ACTION truss rod, and I could not correct the neck. The guitar is about 2 years old at this point, and I don't feel like putting more money into it.
