Catalinbread

collapse expand iconDescription

The Catalinbread Echorec multi-tap echo effects guitar pedal is based on the legendary Binson Echorec, an arcane tube echo which incorporated four playback heads and a spinning magnetic drum as its recording medium. The Binson is probably most famously known for Pink Floyd's use of the unit, and has long captivated musicians for both its rhythmic and ambient characteristics. The designers managed to include all the features of the original (and then some) while still keeping it in a small, standard pedal-sized enclosure.

If you are thinking you already have echoes or delays and don't need another, you have t heard this pedal. As the owner of nearly a dozen, I can say that this pedal has its own sonic signature. The size and depth of the swell and timbre of the overall tone make this me stand out. My best advice: go out and get one and let it change you.

CB really got it right with this pedal, it sounds rich and evocative and is inspiring to play. Is it analog? No. But they came real close to the vibe/sound of the original. It'll get you those 60's/70's psychedelic sounds, plus 90's alterna and shoegaze. It fulfills it's niche in a great way, and is a must-have for any delay geek. However, if you're looking for a standard delay this isn't it.

This pedal is useful for creating compact loops that repeat over and over again, sort of like Pink Floyd's guitar effect on songs like Run Like Hell. None of my other pedals do what it does, and it is highly fun to tweak and adjust during a song. Instant psychedelia.

Being a musician for over 30 years, the one thing I have learned is it's all about the music. It's all about the song. There's no place for "look at me" or "I'm the center of this musical universe." The music comes first. This is one of the most musical pedals I have ever used. All of the different delay choices, the level and tone shaping, the switches and pots in the back all lead to endless possibilities. Clean or dirty, in front of amp or in the loop, all I can say is WOW! The Carbon Copy is a GREAT pedal, but this one pushed it off my board. This is such a musical pedal!
