Designed with the live setting in mind, the XW-P1 Performance Synthesizer gives you plenty of opportunity to create ear-pleasing sounds with its plethora of preset tones (like the Solo Synthesizer, Hex Layer, and Drawbar Organ), as well as numerous types of internal PCM and Synth waves. There are also multifunction keys that enable you to easily assign the most-desired DJ functions to the keys for simplified operation. The slim, lightweight XW-P1 can run on traditional batteries allow you the freedom to perform on stage, wherever it is and whenever you need to.

Solo Synth
The XW-P1 utilizes Casio's exclusive (HPSS) Hybrid Processing Sound Source, a six oscillator monophonic solo synth that is just one of its amazing sound engines. The solo synth has the power to deliver classic analog sounds and sounds with an aggressive edge unlike anything else. Two virtual analog style oscillators, two PCM based oscillators, a noise oscillator and an external oscillator via mic and line inputs can be combined to make up a single solo synth tone. Each oscillator has an independent filter, envelopes, independent key tracking, portamento, two LFOs and access to master resonant filter. With impressive modulation and control capabilities at your fingertips, the solo synth is capable of a wide range of sounds and expression.

In addition to the solo synth, the XW-P1 also features HexLayer tones. A HexLayer is a single sound comprised of up to 6 components, allowing complex layers, splits and velocity switched sounds. The sliders on the XW-P1 can be used to mix sounds on the fly to create evolving pads and rich synth textures while key velocity can be used to create dynamic velocity switched orchestral sounds and more.

Drawbar Organ
In addition to the solo synth and HexLayers, the XW-P1 performance synthesizer is armed with an arsenal of gig-ready sounds like stereo pianos, vintage electric pianos, strings, brass, guitars, basses, drums and more. It also has a new drawbar organ mode. Utilizing the nine sliders on the XW-P1 you have full range control over each drawbar. The XW-P1 even has dedicated controls for key percussion and rotary speaker while also providing vibrato, distortion and more for the ultimate drawbar organ experience.

Arpeggiator and Phrase Sequencer
In addition to typical arpeggio patterns, the XW-P1's Arpeggiator can create polyphonic synth-gated patterns, acoustic instrument emulations and is even fully programmable, allowing you to create your own unique sounds. An additional phrase sequencer allows you to quickly capture any riff that you play on the keyboard and have it available on a front panel switch or triggered and transposed live from a range of notes on the keyboard. The combination of the Step Sequencer, Arpeggiator and Phrase Sequencer provides an endless array of sound possibilities.

The XW-P1 has 4 realtime controller knobs, pitch bend and modulation wheels, along with 9 sliders to provide control over internal sounds and external devices. Through standard MIDI ports and with a class-compliant USB port, the keyboard can be used as a controller for other instruments, including computer software and iPad-based software applications. It also includes an audio input allowing you to monitor an MP3 player, computer or other device without the need for a mixer.

Step Sequencer
Providing everything from pulsing dance grooves to animated synth textures and arpeggios, the XW-P1's Step Sequencer is the first of its kind. With nine tracks for drums, basses, synths and chordal parts, four controller tracks for adding panning, filter changes and other animation to existing parts and eight patterns make up each sequence, the user can build and mix their performance on the fly. Sequences can even transpose live from the keyboard, providing a completely interactive experience.

Very pleased!

By Anonymous

Comments about Casio XW-P1 Performance Synthesizer:

I picked up the XW-P1 as a second keyboard for gigging to replace a well worn Korg X3. When it arrived, I was a little put off by the lack of weight in this synth. After exploring it for a while, I realized that it more than makes up for it with powerful, user friendly synth and GM sounds which are very easy to edit and save. The draw bar organ sound will suffice unless you are a hammond enthusiast, but that is not what I bought it for. The acoustic piano sounds are far better than anything in the Nord Electro 2. I am very pleased overall with the options and functionality of this synth, and I highly recommend the XW-P1 to all levels of players. The rubber pad in the top right corner is a very nice spot for a small mixer. Casio did this very right and at a wonderful price point. Have an open mind with this board, it doesn't have to be heavy to be great.

Casio does it again!

By John Breakfield

from Neptune Beach, FL

Comments about Casio XW-P1 Performance Synthesizer:

I previosly owned a CZ-101, back in the 80s, (still have the manual!),and wondered why Casio would discontinue such a brilliant machine!?! But, they did, but the XW-P1 is actually based on that technology (from what I've read), but they also ADDED what was missing...Knobs and Sliders!! Right out of the box, the sounds are INCREDIBLE, with something forgotten about by other makers in the solo mode, what we older rockers called PORTAMENTO. The solo (monophonic)has a good collection of sounds stock! The drawbar mode will take you back to the 60's and 70's too, with several good base choices there too! Even if I had the cash for a Roland (which I had a JX-3P), or a Korg, or even a Kurtzweiler, it would have been impossible to ignore the newest creation from Casio! Very lightweight, but solid, and laid out very logically! Am highly pleased with my purchase!

Fantastic Keyboard

By Keith

from Diamond,OHio

Comments about Casio XW-P1 Performance Synthesizer:

It took me a while to get past the Casio name but when I researched this keyboard I was amazed. Playing Bass for over 30 years I always wanted to learn the keys and with this I feel like I have a grasp of it. It seems to work with everything I plug into it. Laptops both PC and Mac, iPad all have the free editors installed and work perfectly. I have downloaded over a hundred user patch's and installed them flawlessly onto the board. I?m not a programmer nor do I plan on being one, save that for the pro?s. Between the keyboard sounds, my user installed sounds, iPad synths and VST and AU units from the laptops this thing is unlimited. Guitar Center, as always, great price and great service.

Great Value

By Lance Teller

from Dallas, TX

Comments about Casio XW-P1 Performance Synthesizer:

I bought the Casio synthesizer on a whim knowing I can return if if I didn't like it. After messing with it for 20 minutes I knew I had to keep it. Lots of flexability, many, many sounds. The drawbar organ sounds are very cool. It feels good and would be great for gigging. Easy to store bits on an SD card. The board is very light and that made me nervous, but my other Casio products have never given me any problems. I find it hard to believe that Casio can make such a cool product

Wow ~!

By Paul Tyson

from Royal Oak, Michigan

Comments about Casio XW-P1 Performance Synthesizer:

Bought mine on Black Fri. at local Guitar Ctr. I went w/ the same model but mine is gold color version. This synth has such a "big" sound.... It's capable of incredible tones that I never would have expected at this price point. It seems almost too good to be true - but the sounds are massive and remind me of the classic synths from back in the 80's - Sequential Circuits, Korg M1, Roland D-50, and Juno, etc.. I did research on this for a while before deciding and I have absolutely no buyer's remorse. I've only had it for 1 week so I am still working on navigating menus and such but sonically speaking...this synth delivers bigtime.... wow!

Comments about Casio XW-P1 Performance Synthesizer:

I bought a Korg Kross after playing with the XW-P1 for a few weeks.
After 3 days with the Kross I had a really hard decision to make. The XW definitely had much better key action then the Kross but the sound selection in the Kross was much more to my liking. As well as having more than a just a 16 step sequencer. It actually had a full multitrack sequencer.

The XW-P1 is a great board and if I was more than a novice(and had a bigger budget) I might have kept both. I would still highly recommend it. It has a lot of really great options such as the phrase recorder, the solo sounds are great, as are the organ options.
