When I was ready to start my own Internet Radio Station I needed a microphone so I went into my nearby Guitar Center in Country Club Hills, Illinois. As I walked in in the corner of my eye to the left as if it called me my sight focused on something that I had never seen before. It was a round brushed aluminum Blue Snowball USB Microphone - and it was love at first sight. Comments about BLUE Yeti Studio USB/iOS Microphone - with $100 in Software:

This mic does NOT work with any DAW program. apparently this is the main issue with these things. So it makes it difficult to multi track. This type of mic is not meant for recording songs with overdubs... it is meant for podcasting and voice-overs. It works with Audacity, but no other DAWs

Consider a slightly more expensive condenser mic or even a dynamic one. Sound quality was not good and picked up every sound in the world. You could hear my pick plucking the strings of my electric guitar from across the rooom. Also the software it gave me would not download and said I had already redeemed the codes. Was super excited to get this mic but was let down.

Comments about BLUE Yeti Studio USB/iOS Microphone - with $100 in Software:

I specifically bought this mic for podcasting/Spoken Word. So far, I have recorded several episodes with it and it is very good, especially considering the price is on the low end for what I would have expected for spoken word sound quality. Doesn't even really need a pop filter unless you are egregious with your Aspirated Plosives and Dentals.

Requires minimal fidgeting to get a decent sound, and not much more to get amazing sound out of it. However, you definitely have to fidget with it first and figure out how it will best capture your voice. The included guidebook is pretty decent at helping you do this if you're an amateur, esp. w. the Rec. Patterns.

As for music, I have tried a few times to get it to capture both singing and instrumental, and it is only OK at that. I have had better musical recordings from cheaper microphones. If you have better soundproofing on your walls than I do, then you will probably get less echo than I did, because it is very sensitive to that. It is better than the standard mics on your laptops for sure, but if you are mainly getting this thing as an investment for music, I'd suggest you explore other options for the price-point. If you mainly do spoken word and occasionally want to record music, then this thing is certainly not going to let you down. Just remember to readjust the settings.

It has a screw thread on the bottom for mounting to a stand, and it comes on its own tabletop stand that is just OK, but it will pick up every single light brush on the desk it is on, so plan on getting a better isolation system. The stand is also very heavy, so packing the whole thing can be a pain if you're mobile, but it is fairly small and compacts nicely despite the weight.

The microphone itself is plug-and-play (At least on my Mac) but I have not used the included software because I already had my own. I LOVE the headphone jack on the bottom for the monitor, but having the volume knob on the unit can be a pain to adjust while recording.

Comments about BLUE Yeti Studio USB/iOS Microphone - with $100 in Software:

After doing much research looking for a mic for multi purposes, I decided to go with the Yetti. Overall, this is a well made mic with good overall response. It seems to be best suited for voiceovers, which I use it for, and podcasts; basically talking. I also record myself singing; and here is where the problem lies. It's response is sensitive, which again is good for speaking. However, when singing, I have to turn the mic and audio input levels down to very low to get it into the recording range I need. This, unfortunately takes away response levels and the tonal quality for singing that I'm able to get while doing voiceovers. While I would use and recommend this mic for voiceovers, and podcasts if I get into doing that, I'm looking at other better quality mics for singing. The software that came with it is not user friendly and was difficult to authenticate and be registered. I use the Yetti with Garage Band and Audacity and it works fine.

Comments about BLUE Yeti Studio USB/iOS Microphone - with $100 in Software:

I'm a longtime pro sound guy, and a musician songwriter. Pros - the mic is quality, low cost, sounds great, fat and present, and it has 4 patterns so it's versatile. Cons - it's usb only and 16 bit only. Blue also makes a Yeti version that is 24 bit with an XLR regular mic connector it's about $199 by itself. The mic is good enough I would consider that a good deal. That's a very good price for a mic of this quality - and I say that having a bunch of mics with German names too.
It is important on a Mac to go into the audio/midi settings, find the Yeti settings and where it says "dB" enter 0. Otherwise it may default to the settings of a Mac's built in mic which are often +18 or +20, far too hot for this mic. You plug headphones into the bottom of the mic, and there is a volume control in the front. The stand is removable and there's a mic mount underneath so you can put it on a stand.
It only needs 5v to run this usb mic. I have plugged it into my iPhone with a "camera kit" adapter and used it to record. Works just fine, sounds very impressive, I love it close up.
Love it direct into the computer it's so simple, use it in stereo to record acoustic guitar or an ensemble. Cardiod for vocals... Great. I haven't used the free software as I have a couple versions of Cubase and Pro Tools.

Comments about BLUE Yeti Studio USB/iOS Microphone - with $100 in Software:

I use the Yeti for Vocal recordings, primarily Singing. I followed the advise of one of the reviewers about input settings to minimize how hot the microphone was, and have been pleased with the results. I have not used the software that came with the microphone, as Garageband seems suffice for my current purposes, so I cannot speak to the usability from that aspect. I do note that at times, the microphone overrides the Headphone jack on the computer, so you have to use the headphone jack on the microphone in order to monitor the sound, but that is a little detail, though if you aren't aware of it, I can see that being an issue. Other than that little quirk, it has worked out well for me.

Comments about BLUE Yeti Studio USB/iOS Microphone - with $100 in Software:

Purchased the mic in-store. Went home, plugged it into my MacBook Pro, and installed the software that it came with. The red light came on, and it was recognized by my computer.

Testing it out, I recorded just my vocals for about 30 seconds. All of a sudden I get a horrible screeching sound. The microphone turns off, and will not turn back on. A lot of users blame this on the bad-quality USB cable it comes with. So I go get a new USB cable, and it still doesn't work.

All in all this has been a terrible experience. This microphone uses USB 2.0 technology with 5-pins, which is SUPER fragile, especially compared to commonly available USB C and 3.0 tech. I'm super disappointed in my purchase, and think this product should be replaced with newer tech asap. Please note that this microphone is from ~2014, so you're talking 4 years outdated compared to other tech. I'm returning this immediately.
