I wanted a 24 fret guitar with a Floyd Rose for faster styles of playing/songs, and some quick browsing of YouTube videos and online posts suggested I was destined to get an Ibanez or a Jackson. I tried playing some Jackson's and Ibanez's in the store, and I just couldn't get comfortable playing the super flat D-shape necks. Maybe it's just me, but they feel uncomfortable when I play them for more than a few minutes. I've had an ESP Viper Standard Series for close to 20 years, and it's one of two guitars I've played the most in my life, so I decided to take a look at what ESP had to offer. I found the LTD MH-203QM, and couldn't find much in terms of videos or online reviews on the guitar. Based on the specs and what little reviews there were, I decided to take a chance on it, and boy am I glad I did. Out of the box it needed a little tuning which is to be expected. If you know how to work with a Floyd Rose, it's no big deal. Plugged it in, switched to some presets I have on my Headrush, and was immediately blown away. The pickups scream, and I honestly feel no need to ever replace them. The single coils sound crisp and what you would expect from single coils, and the humbucker is incredible. It's crystal clear, has great response, and can handle anything from clean tones to high gain applications. Initially out of the box, the frets felt pretty sharp. Since I ordered the guitar in winter, I gave it some time to acclimate in my house. After a few days, the fretboard seemed to settle and the frets were no longer an issue. If I rub my hand along the edge of the fretboard, I can feel the frets a little, but I don't feel them whatsoever when playing. The finish is gorgeous, and I'm not someone who ever thought I'd own such a loud blue guitar. The maple fretboard with light inlays pops on the body, and anyone who see's it can't help but say "wow". The neck feels great to play, it's slim but not flat, which is exactly what I was looking for. The Floyd Rose operates perfectly without issue, and even if I dive it down hard, the guitar holds tuning without issue. All in all, if you're looking for a fast playing, well built, great sounding, and great looking guitar, give this one a go. You won't be disappointed. This is just as fun and easy to play as my ESP, which was 3 times the price.
