Comments about Blackstar ID:Core BEAM 20W 2x3 Bluetooth Combo Amp:

There are a few products like this amp on the market, but this is only one that does it all very well. It sounds great as a guitar amplifier and is a superb bluetooth music player as well. Volume levels are more than adequate for a large living room, the tone is well balanced with good highs and low end.
Blackstar is not kidding when they advertise 'super-wide stereo'. The amp is about 12" across but with on-board delay and mod effects the unit presents itself as being five foot wide! Also, the perceived width of the stereo effect can be set by the user.
The bluetooth connection is quick and stable. (my two biggest complaints with its competitor, the Line6 Amplifi, was unreliable bluetooth (a major component to the features of this amp line) and lack of stereo presentation despite having five speakers onboard).
Dialling in tones is easy and intuitive, you can connect to a computer for detailed editing, but I have yet to find a need to do so. Footswitch is a welcome bonus as is the fact that it is designed to double as a bass amp as well as for guitar (I haven't tested that feature out yet)
The BEAM should present very closely to the Blackstar IDCore 20, but in my experience, the BEAM is much better. Music streaming is the obvious plus on the BEAM, but it also has more tonal features and the smaller cabinet size is better suited to the living room environment; I also found the IDCore to be more easily overwhelmed by low end frequencies on clean settings - it didn't take much to set the cabinet humming...a fine amp for distortion settings though...
Compared to the Yamaha THR10, the sound is cleaner and the amp is quieter; plus you get Bluetooth AND it's priced better. The Roland Cube Lite has great sounds and the price is reasonable, but it lacks the Bluetooth and it's noisy! Even a humbucker guitar buzzes annoyingly. So yes, I have tried them all, and the Blackstar BEAM is the hands down winner.

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core BEAM 20W 2x3 Bluetooth Combo Amp:

I have now owned the BEAM for almost two years and its time to update my review. 5/5 stars suggest no room for improvement, but I would like to see some firmware updates from Blackstar. My gripes/wishlist:
    1. You cannot save the volume level with a patch. Cleans are too quiet and high gain too loud. Switching between tones means having to dive on the volume knob to balance.
    2. when I flick the switch, sometimes the power does not come on and I have to cycle the switch to turn on the amp.
    3. when using the footswitch, the first switch changes the patch and the second switch will turn off ALL the effects including reverb. Not very useful mid-song; you should be able to choose to toggle just the modulation effect
    4. The Blackstar Insider software has a music player, but it cannot route the tunes out the amp when plugged in via USB. Ridiculous.
All these issues could be fixed with firmware and software updates...I am still waiting...
In the mean time, it is still a great Bluetooth music player and amp. Very responsive; you can dial in a gnarly crunch tone and clean it up with light picking or rolling off the volume on your guitar. I will use it sometimes for playing bass, you cannot get the same depth and volume as you can with guitar, but the fact you can jam at all is pretty good from an amp this size. New rating: 4/5 pending updates.

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core BEAM 20W 2x3 Bluetooth Combo Amp:

I really wanted to love this amp. I love the Blackstar tone and the ID Core series in general are pretty awesome little amps. Ordered this one online (no stores carry them) thinking it'd be the perfect small home recording solution. It may possibly be good for recording, though I never really got that far.

Off the bat it looks great, very sleek, portable and compact. Really love the look compared to other small amps in its range. And it does have the wide stereo like the others in the line but it just doesn't feel close to 20 watts in sound. I didn't need a loud amp but this one just kinda felt quiet. Even when I popped headphones on the clean channels felt really weak. Had to crank up the volume to max to get a decent sound. I had a 20w Orange Crush to compare it to and it didn't even get close in sound/power.

Tried out the extra features like the Bluetooth (which paired well and sounded pretty good) but the acoustic simulators barely worked with my electric. One of them had weak sound and the other didn't seem to work at all. Maybe I got a lemon? Not sure, they seem to work in online demos.

All the rest of the channels/effects were fine, much like the ID Core 10.

Other bummer was lack of a strap. Sleek portable little desktop amp but no practical way to carry it. Just seems silly. Also if you want to make it a small portable amp, why not give the option for battery power? Like the Cube or THR? Seems like a wasted opportunity.

I only had it for a couple days before returning so who knows, may have grown on me. Overall just felt way too expensive for the small extra features it comes with compared to the rest of the Core line. Will probably end up getting a 40w Core or something similar.

Might work for you if you just need a convenient quiet little desktop amp. It is feature rich and looks great in the office.

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core BEAM 20W 2x3 Bluetooth Combo Amp:

At church I basically only needed decent chorus, reverb, delay and a small assortment of clean and crunch to cream tones. This has all of that in an easy to use package. It fit on a very small table next to my chair and I could quickly move through the tones as needed. In some ways it was easier than a multi pedal. I had no intention of using the bluetooth function when I got it but that is a quality sound on this amp. I can take the Planning Center/Music Stand tracks and listen on my tablet (At rehearsal) with the sheet music on the screen. The only down sides I have seen so far is the huge difference in gain/volume between the effects settings for clean/dirt and delay reverb voices. This to took more getting used to than I would like, and our sound person has to be on his toes. I also wish it had a dedicated line out other than the 1/8 inch simulated cab/headphone combination that it has, but I don't believe they designed this for the ways I use it.Very good quality of tones and easy to use. I left this at church but it was not designed to be portable. This is not for everybody but I did homework before i purchased and it works well for me. It looks like a toy. It is not a toy.

I would only buy this if you're going to utilize all of the features of the amp e.g. bluetooth for music. As far as the hiss or background noise problem in another review, this can easily be fixed by changing the noise gate from low to high using the computer. Other than that I basically only use it for practice and play along with songs. You can get pretty much any tone you need out of it and if you like effects its got digital pedals you can edit and tune with the computer.

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core BEAM 20W 2x3 Bluetooth Combo Amp:

Would rate this as a great amp for practice and music play back EXCEPT for a constant background hiss that occurs as soon as the guitar cable is plugged in. This is the second one I've had with the same problem. (Guitar Center has been great on the exchange). In quiet situations like our home music room its distracting. Otherwise a really great product that would meet all my needs but I think its going to go back to Guitar Center for a refund.

Amazingly full sound compared with other digital amps I've used (line 6, fender, peavy, vox). The acoustic effects are not very good though and probably worthless. A better explanation of the controls and optimal use would help.
