A beautiful beast!

By Johnathan Dunn

Comments about Blackstar ID150H 150W Digital Guitar Amplifier Head:

It was difficult getting information on this head, so, for those wondering, it is a musicians friend and guitar center exclusive.. It's just like the ID:100w head, accept it's 150 watts of meat and the TVP is always on.. All aspects of the software work flawlessly except this amp, thus far, isn't to be found on the insider drop down, which isn't a biggie. I had no issues with dialing in both killer distortions and cleans.. Very intuitive with not much of a learning curve and with the 4 cable method, I can even utilize my Line 6 Hd500s effects or as a midi controller for the head.. KILLER head that will do anything you need it to..and yes.. It's as loud as you'll ever need in any environment..

Comments about Blackstar ID150H 150W Digital Guitar Amplifier Head:

Great addition to my Peavey 6505 412 cabinet! Sounds so good, has a ton of tonal options with Blackstar's ISF tone control and various 'tube type' emulations, and the effects options all sound fantastic. All tones are usable, which is rare with modeling amps. This rig will definitely compete with my Fender Mustang IV for playing time, as they both are incredible.

Comments about Blackstar ID150H 150W Digital Guitar Amplifier Head:

This is the BEST sounding SS head available today. Its not loaded with 100's of lame presets that you will never use, look at it as a tube amp, where you dial in what you are looking for. Its more then powerful enough to gig with as it is now my main gigging head. I send it through a Marshall 4x12 with GT75s and it sounds great. There is no way anyone can tell its not a tube amp. Its very light, easy to use, foot switch is a must not only for different tones, but for lead boosts. The tube emulations are also very useful, although I mostly use the 6L6, EL34 and EL84 modes. The effect are ok, not great but usable. If you are looking for a great SS head, reasonably priced, and great tone, buy this. My tube heads are on hold for now.

Comments about Blackstar ID150H 150W Digital Guitar Amplifier Head:

This is a great-sounding amp, with lots of power. I use it through a Marshall 1960a cabinet and it almost sounds like a tube amp, but at a fraction of the weight and cost.

Comments about Blackstar ID150H 150W Digital Guitar Amplifier Head:

great amp---tho a bit difficult to save edits. Big problem for me was that a number of ads and info on blackstar website talk about the footswitch that comes with the amp. I didn't get one and when i wrote to blackstar they said it was an extra. when i told them that the info says it is supplied (as do youtube vids) they said it was a mistake. So i ordered a different foot controller. Overall the amp sounds good thru my blackstar 2x12 cab---but it isn't nearly as powerfull as they claim. I had an Blackstar HT50 tube head and it blew this one out of the water power wise.

Comments about Blackstar ID150H 150W Digital Guitar Amplifier Head:

So I walk into the local GC looking specifically for the HT Club 40 combo and they have it right next to the ID:150 head with a 2X12 cabinet. I figure since they have them side by side why not A/B them with a Gibson Tribute and later a PRS 594. The differences are subtle, volume wise the ID 150 competes with the HT 40 to a certain point. I should mention that I could not crank the amps past 3 or 4 o'clock without drawing the ire of customers paying at the register. I've owned modeling amps in the past, early Line 6 and Mustangs, but both emulate amps while excluding the characteristics of the pickups, guitar and player nuances. This head does interpret those nuances 90-95% to those of tube amplification. Solid state once had a bad rap except for Randall and modeling lagged behind, regulated to the lower spectrum of amp tone. Whatever Blackstar did in this series it comes so close to tube sounds, and at the price of solid state it takes tube technology a run for its money.

Sounds Cheesy, Very thin. Might be good for a beginner on a tight budget or if you just want clean tones. but the distortion channels are thin and sound cheesy.
