Overview

The Behringer XENYX Q1202USB mixer is made to handle live gigs, and provide you with the required tools necessary to capture professional-quality recordings. Along with its built-in USB/audio interface, and œone-knob mono channel compressor, the XENYX Q1202USB mixer comes with enough recording and editing software to turn your computer into a complete recording studio. The largest of the XENYX Q Series, The XENYX Q1202USB is built for versatility and tone, and is equally at home at your live gig or in the studio. This compact mixer provides 4 mono channels with phantom-powered XENYX mic preamps, neo-classic 3-band British-style EQ, plus 4 stereo channels.

XENYX Mic Preamps
All XENYX mixers have one thing in common; great-sounding, high headroom XENYX mic preamps. XENYX preamps offer 130dB of dynamic range with a bandwidth that extends from below 10Hz to well above 200kHz. As a result, XENYX mixers can reproduce a cleaner, transparent performance.

British EQ
The British consoles of the 1960s and ˜70s changed the sound of rock and roll. Without them, the British Invasion might not have even happened. Those legendary mixing desks soon became the envy of engineers and producers all over the world. The channel EQs on all XENYX mixers are based on that very same circuitry, allowing you to saturate signals with warmth and character. Even when applied generously, these equalizers exhibit forgiveness and superb audio quality.

USB Audio Interface
Modern technology has put personal recording well within the reach of virtually anyone with access to a computer. But how do you get all that music flying around your brain into a computer? Thanks to the built-in, bi-directional stereo USB audio interface, you can connect directly to your PC or Mac computer via a single USB cable. Now any signal source connected to the mixer can be recorded straight to your hard drive.

Included Software
Behringer has put together a massive software download that includes Audacity (the most popular open source audio editor), Podifier, Juice, Podnova and Golden Ear (a great selection of podcasting software). You'e ready to go live on your PC or Mac right out of the box! You also get more than 100 virtual instruments and 50 FX plug-ins, turning your computer into a complete home-based or mobile recording studio.

We just setup a recording studio in relatively small space (14'x16'). After a week of internet research, a trip to my local music store and a trip GC, I ordered the q1202usb in store and had it shipped to my house. I had it two days later. It was a little smaller than I had expected but is very straightforward and does what we need it to do. The built in usb interface and number of inputs was what sold it for me. Most usb interfaces on the market cost more than this whole mixer! Plus, the built in interface is able to record and do playback. A few other things that I think should be mentioned: The software that supposedly comes with this, is actually all just free downloads that you can get via the behringer website. This mixer has no on/off switch. I just plug it into a power strip with a switch, separately from my computer setup. The usb interface is definitely plug and play. However, the sound quality of the recordings with my computers stock usb audio driver was not great. Good, but not great. I downloaded the behringer audio driver and am very impressed. If you are using this for podcasts, it's not a big deal. We are recording lots of over dubs with many instruments and voice tracks. I would definitely recommend getting this. Also, this mixer does technically have 12 inputs but they count each side (l & r) of the stereo inputs separately. So, really it is 8 channels. More than enough to run a live setup. And last, the manual that comes in the box is not very good. If you go to the behringer website you can get the full version. All and all, I would recommend this mixer. In fact, I would recommend that GC carry this in the store. For the price and functionality it cannot be beat.

I purchased this as a quick fix for USB recording into Presonus. Apparently Presonus and Behringer don't play nice together. My real gripe is that while in USB mode, you CANNOT LISTEN and RECORD at the same time. Yeah... really frustrating. So, it may be good for podcasting, listening to streaming etc., but absolutely a waste for musicians. The sound qualify is "muffy, grumble, nuggets"... best way to describe it. You get a warm... what did you say? kind of sound. FX and compression.... your kidding... right? Little no use at all. Bottom line: this is by no means a professional or even an entry level mixer. It's heading back... maybe a podcaster can pick it up really cheap as an open box item.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q1202USB Mixer:

Records with a split second delay through the USB interface. In turn, playback of vocal is delayed. I use it as a live mixer now. I left it plugged in the usb while using is as a analog mixer, and it created a ringing sound on the playback so I unplugged the USB and stopped using the interface part of it all together.

This is a great mixer for the price and the size of it. It has a lot of versatile inputs and outputs, including a unique USB input/output. This is a must have recording and live performance centerpiece for a small band. Buttons make it easy to switch from different audio outputs.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q1202USB Mixer:

This is a solid mixer for the price. Audio is clear and consistent. The British EQ's are simple enough to deal with, although I personally prefer sliders for the main mix. Also worth noting, that if you're going to use the USB out to connect/record from your computer, monitor your sound through the computer....there seems to be a weird interference when you use the USB and an analog out at the same time. Either way, suits my uses just fine. Would cautiously recommend.

These are great little mics for simple applications and live sound. I was very impressed with the impedance output. You can crank the volume and get no crackle at all. No feedback from them even when close proximity to my 10's. Seriously... every musician should have one or two of these in their mic locker.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q1202USB Mixer:

Needed a small set of speakers for subtle monitoring of recordings. These don't have any real definition, but that give you a pretty good transparency with respect to what your recording will sound like on most hand-held devices. They are decent for audio playback with YouTube etc.

First of all, I am not giving it 5 stars yet because it is still too new to me. I'll get the "down" side out of the way first. The owners manual needs to be more inclusive of the use of all of the functions with details. Okay, that out of the way. This is an affordable mixer that works well for home studio and as a PA mixer when paired with powered PA speakers. Currently, I am running D.I. outs from both my Peavey Valve King and My Fishman LoudBox Mini as well as mics on each of them through this mixer for home recording. With no help from the manual and some trial and error, it does an excellent job! Having the USB interface makes it easy change computers.
