Overview

The compact Behringer XENYX 1002B 5-Channel Mixer has Behringer's highly musical 3-band British-style EQ, plus an FX and monitor send for each channel, making it a must-have for any audio toolkit.

State-of-the-Art Goes Portable
Whether you plug it into the wall or power it via 9V batteries, the Behringer XENYX 1002B comes equipped with many of the features you've come to expect from Behringer's larger mixers. For example, XENYX mic preamps for amazing sound quality, phantom power for use with professional-grade condenser mics, 2-Track inputs and outputs, and 60mm faders. The 4 stereo channels accept left/right or mono 1/4" TRS/TR inputs, and 3 of them also accommodate microphones (with separate Trim controls).

The Behringer XENYX 1002B represents a significant milestone in the development of mixer technology. Equipped with Behringer's premium XENYX mic preamps, this compact mixer can easily hold its own against the most expensive stand-alone mic preamps, both in terms of sound quality and available headroom. XENYX preamps offer a staggering 130 dB of dynamic range, with a bandwidth that extends from below 10 Hz to well above 200 kHz. XENYX mic pres provide such transparent, crystal-clear performance you just might think someone upgraded your mics.

Sublimely musical British EQ
The British consoles of the 1960s and '70s changed the sound of rock and roll-without them the British Invasion might not have happened. Those legendary mixing desks soon became the envy of engineers and producers all over the world. The 3-band EQ on the Behringer XENYX 1002B mixer is based on that very same circuitry, allowing you to imbue signals with incredible warmth and detailed musical character. Even when applied generously, these equalizers exhibit sweet forgiveness and superb audio quality.

Applications and value
Don't let the small footprint fool you-the Behringer XENYX 1002B is built to the same exacting standards as Behringer's larger format XENYX mixers and is housed in an equally rugged steel chassis. It is the ideal choice for keyboardists who need to mix down multiple instruments or sound modules for live or recording applications. Singers who perform with backing tracks, as well as instrumentalist/singers (acoustic guitar or piano bar, for example) find the Behringer XENYX 1002B indispensable for patching into house systems.

Field Operation
Its compact size and flexible input scheme also make it the natural choice of sports announcers for calling play-by-play game action. Likewise, radio and TV reporters especially like the Behringer XENYX 1002B mixer for its ease-of-use, remarkable fidelity and rugged reliability. And the 9 V battery option allows newscasters and correspondents to use the 1002B in remote locations where power is hard to come by. (Two 9 V alkaline batteries are required for normal operation, three for phantom power).

From its state-of-the-art XENYX mic preamps to its highly musical British-style EQ and user-friendly layout, the Behringer XENYX 1002B mixer is a solid leader for value and sonic integrity in its class.

Excellent Buy

By Spencer Vogelbach

from Westlake Village, California

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1002B 5-Channel Compact Mixer:

I bought this mixer one year ago for recording purposes, and now I realized that it functions as both a recording mixer and as live P.A. mixer. The console has just enough mic capacity to use 5 mics on my drum kit, and enough for vocals while jamming with my band. The build is all metal, and hels produce quality mixing. I highly recommend this behringer over any other mixer in its price range. For the price, you can't go wrong

Great entry level mixer

By Joshua

from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1002B 5-Channel Compact Mixer:

I purchased this mixer for running small karaoke gigs, and it works great for that application. 5 XLR inputs is awesome for a mixer of this price. I usually only use three mics for karaoke, but having the option of 5 is great, since I have extra mics if a group wants to do a drunken group song LOL. Plug in a couple extra Audio Technica mics and they can all have fun. (throwing in props for audio technica since they have stocked me with great vocal mics for an amazing price!) Overall, this little mixer rocks! You could even run a 3 pc band off this thing! (if you don't need to mic the drummer) Even four pc bands for small gigs. This little (or not so little) mixer is a great tool! It can do gigs, and it can also do recording. Either way, try to find a mixer that is this solid in construction in this price point...good luck. Behringer makes some really nice stuff. Perfect mid level mixer!

Great Value!

By 6stringedmaniac

from San Bernardino CA

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1002B 5-Channel Compact Mixer:

I have had this mixer for one year now, and I must say that it is an excellent value! It is very durable; I spilled soda all over the thing and it still works fine! (After some disassembly and cleaning) It is pretty bright sounding and supplies enough input gain for any task. The amount of inputs and other features makes this mixer a steal at only $100. The only complaint I have about this mixer is that the circuitry is very noisy. It produces a lot of 10kHz hiss, especially at levels above 0db. But I have recently made it my Talk back and Listen back mixer. Good buy!

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1002B 5-Channel Compact Mixer:

I use this product on smaller gigs where we need five or fewer input channels. Replaced a Xenyx 802. Is taking some time to get as used to this as I was with 802 settings. Finding the stereo channels throttle the volume a lot compared to the mono channels. Have question into the company. Figure it's due to the stereo nature of the channels that cuts the volume, but this is an annoyance, for sure. Most noticeable in passive pickups, it seems. And it's also possible that the unit somehow attenuates the total sound. Had a problem with getting loud enough in large, open venue today, a problem I've never had before using the Fishman SA220. I had to release the amp's 10dB pad for the first time since I bought it more than five years ago. Still, once I get used to differences in the mixers, it'll be a good day.

The device has a lot of possible uses, as noted in its manual. Recommend downloading and checking out, if you're interested.

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1002B 5-Channel Compact Mixer:

Excellent little mixer for the money. Needed to solve some problems and it does.
        1. submixer for on stage to mix three stereo floor synths and guitar/bass
        2. submixer for drums which are controlled by the drummer.
        3. Camping using with battery powered speaker for small campsite jam sessions.
        4. needed small light weight mixer for 3 piece band gigs. works great.
Only comment: Its built like a tank except the controls are plastic. So I took the rack wings and added a 6" plate and velcro to them and use it for a cover for travel. Works great.

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1002B 5-Channel Compact Mixer:

For our acoustic duo with three instruments, we needed the five channels--trying to use both sides of a stereo channel with a guitar and a mandolin just wasn't working. Unfortunately, the passive mando pickup doesn't do well in the three stereo channels without using almost all the gain and all the volume, but at least it works. (When going into one of the two mono channels, the volume of the mando pickup is comparable to what the active pickups are in the stereo channels.)

Having come from a Xenyx 802, I expected the settings to be more similar than they are, but got that figured out and the sound is good again, so all in all, after a short learning curve, what we needed.

The passive sound problem, along with the 23V phantom sound--which we don't need, but if we did, that would be a bummer--caused me to knock the product one star. Plus the fact that I'm still waiting for their customer service to address the problem.

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1002B 5-Channel Compact Mixer:

Great little mixer that may not be there for the long haul. This is my third 1002B. Why would I keep buying a product that won't last more than 3 years -- maybe? It's the only battery powered mixer that I can take into the boonies/ festivals that has phantom power and gives me great flexibility for such a small package. I do wish that it had a mute button for each channel. I'd give it another star for mute buttons.
