Overview

Behringer's Model D Analog Synthesizer is inspired by Moog's classic Minimoog Model D. At a welcome price, this Eurorack-sized synth continues in the Moog tradition by introducing analog synthesis to a new generation of music makers. Like the original, Behringer's Model D is outfitted with incredible features and has a rich analog sound. It differs from the original in its Eurorack design - a design that removes the keyboard feature, increasing portability. In its place, the synth can be connected to and controlled by any number of synth controllers or USB devices via a USB-MIDI port.

Designed and engineered in the U.K., this is an authentic reproduction of the original “D Type” circuitry with matched transistors and JFETs; 5 variable oscillator shapes with variable pulse widths; ultra-high precision 0.1% Thin Film resistors and Polyphenylene Sulphide capacitors; a pure analog signal path based on authentic VCO, VCF and VCA designs; a dedicated, fully analog triangle/square wave LFO with switchable low/high pass filters; a classic 24dB ladder filter with resonance; overdrive circuitry; low and high-level outputs with signal integrity stages; and a pink/white noise generator. The result is a synth that produces legendary sound performance with expansive sonic possibilities.

Its semi-modular design requires no patching for immediate performance and 48 controls give you direct and real-time access to all the important parameters. You can also take advantage of the synth’s analog circuitry by using the external audio input to process sounds from external sources, adding warmth and depth to any number of instruments.

Like its predecessor, the Behringer Model D offers a classic sound—one that forged new musical genres and inspired artists like Dr. Dre, Kraftwerk, LCD Soundsystem, Trent Reznor and Gary Numan, to name a few.

This little synth is amazing! The real deal. I have an original vintage Minimoog model D and I dialed in the same settings and literally could not believe my ears. If you have any doubts look up the demo on YouTube of synthpro testing this against a real one. I had originally bought the Moog reissue for $3500 and returned it for this. The reissue has no snap in its release envelopes, this one and the vintage do. That snap is what really adds the "funk" for the Moog bass, it's absolutely essential. Major oversight by Moog.

i bought into the hype and bought one, excited, thinking i could maybe retire my Mini from some duties, at least.

i put it next to my Minimoog. i turned it on. i was sad.

it doesn't sound like a Minimoog. it doesn't sound like 90% of a Minimoog.

it sounds like a toy version of a Mini.

it doesn't have the detail, movement, depth, sheen, power, or organic quality to it. it doesn't have the rawness, mojo, weight, purity, command.

it's a fun synth, and a cute toy. it's more convenient, and that's nice.

but it is not an instrument in the same way, a substitute, or a replacement, or even a competitor for the real thing.

it's closer to a softsynth in terms of tone and power. maybe a little better than my various software versions of a Mini, but not by a whole lot.

do yourself a favor and save up for the real thing if you want a Mini.

don't buy the hype that this is a "$300 Minimoog".

it's not.

DON'T UPDATE THE FIRMWARE !

By mark

Comments about Behringer Model D:

I received mine, as everyone knows, after a long wait. I tried to update the firmware first thing (out of habit). WARNING: DO NOT UPDATE THE FIRMWARE. I used Windows 10, and it caused the Model D to "crash" and become unplayable. Now, a week later and finally getting someone from Behringer to respond, they said that they were aware of the problem and to use Windows 7 to update -- which I found an old laptop that still had Windows 7 on, only for this not to work either. I now have to return the Model D and wait in another long queue to get the replacement. The youtube videos I have endlessly watched seem that this is an awesome unit. Just don't mess with updating the firmware!

Identical layout and sound to the Minimoog D, at 1/10th of the price. Easy semi-modular patching. What more needs to be said?

            Comments about Behringer Model D:

I'm very satisfied with this synth.
It's sounds really cool, it'll go good with a small rig & the price is right !
I never liked the greedy prices of a actual model D, they slowly climbed & climbed until their cost has become unreasonable for many people.(even though a real model D is really cool, what it offers is available on many synths today & for a fraction of the cost.
This is very nice & got you covered for minimoog sounds & it's not buggy like software). Greed is bad. Behringer hit it out the park ❤

This unit sounds fantastic and is lots of fun to experiment with. Build quality is pretty solid and size makes it easy to set up in different scenarios. Only issue is the "wood" side panels scratch very easily. Other than that I really dig it!
