BSX Allegro 4 string

Hello this review is long overdue, I want to say how pleased I am with this instrument. I've had it for almost a year and half and have grown to love it more every day. For years I wanted to replace an upright bass that I sold back in 1990 but with kiddos a round ,it was to much bulk to have around the house. I remembered a review in Bass Player magazine back aways,on a different model that was really positive and kept it in mind. I saw the Allegro advertised here really liked the look, it resembles a upright bass and not just a neck with strings on it. I'm amazed at the acoustic volume of this bass, I can play it upstairs and you can hear it downstairs with no amplification. I love going over to it on the stand that I purchased from BSX and just play it acoustically. Plugged in, it's dead silent, with a huge amount of tone options. I'm learning Arco playing with the Allegro which is really cool. The bass is well made, really solid a bit heavy (16lbs) but no problem. It came with a nice gig bag too. As a citizen of the U.S. I'm happy to say that this bass is made in Aliquippa,Pa. If your looking for a EUB I encourage you to check out the BSX Allegro.
This is a beautiful instrument. It plays and sounds great

Even Better Than I was Hoping

I was tired of lugging my upright around so was just using my Fender jazz which is great but I was missing the sound of an upright...so what to do?? After thinking about it and much research I settled on the BSX. I will say it took a few months to arrive but I expected that as I'm pretty sure BSX is a small shop. Since there was nowhere to actually try one before I bought I was nervous when it arrived. It was well packaged and undamaged....and beautiful. It's easy to set up and the adjustment of the action is easy. As soon as I plugged it in I couldn't stop smiling. This is a beautiful instrument and actually sounds better than my old upright as the electronics seem to be well balanced with the bass. I love the sound and my bandmates were blown away! You want to know awesome...try bowing it while amplified!! Amazing. That was the one test I didn't hold that much hope for as it is the true test of a bowed instrument. Ok last thing...while I was unpacking it I thought it was missing the knob for the neck and I started to panic. I called BSX and actually got Dino the owner on the line. He said to check through all the packaging and lo and behold there it was. He is super cool and he mentioned a video on their website that shows the installation procedure. If you want a quality instrument you won't regret putting out the dough for this is the one.

I was considering an EUB for some time and settled on the BSX Allegro after finally getting my hand on one to try out. While it's an expensive EUB, I'd say it competes well with the more expense Eminence EUB. I order the Nutmeg 4 string. The color was much darker than it appears on the website and is a beautiful color and finish. The ability to easily adjust the next height is a nice feature. The preamp & onboard EQ is excellent. The bass has a body rest piece that comes out of the back on an angle to rest the bass against your chest as you would with a regular upright bass. I find the position of the body rest to be just right and the playing position feels familiar. The bass is easy to balance when playing standing or with a stool. The bass definitely has a nice acoustic quality to it's sound without the feedback issues that are more likely with a regular upright bass. A decent will padded gig bag is also included. I had a question or two about the bass and contacted BSX both by email and phone and found the company to be very responsive to inquiries. My email was answered in just a few hours. In summary, made in USA, great craftsmanship, Nice neck, familiar feel, portability!, excellent acoustic sound, responsive established builder. I'm very pleased with this bass and this this is something I will keep as long as I'm playing.
