BOSS DD-8 Digital Delay Effects Pedal

(17)

BOSS reinvents delay once again with the DD-8, a loaded pedal that delivers the most wide-ranging and feature-rich delay in the BOSS compact series. Eleven modes provide delay colors from basic to exotic, plus an onboard looper offers unlimited overdub capability. For maximum versatility in a minimum amount of space, the DD-8 is an amazing pedal to add to your signal chain.

A Plethora of Pristine Echoes

Equipped with a diverse selection of delays, the DD-8 packs impressive sonic range into one small pedal. Clean digital delays, vintage analog and tape types and modulation echo are available, plus specialty delays like shimmer and reverse. There's a new Warm type for softer echo tones and a +RV type that blends delay and reverb together. The DD-8 delivers ambient swells and textures with the Warp mode, as well as glitchy rhythmic effects with the new GLT type.

Immersive Stereo Sound

Everything sounds bigger and better in stereo and the DD-8 delivers with full stereo I/O support and three output modes. The default setting provides independent delays, with normal delays on Output A and long delays on Output B. There's also a panning mode for ping-pong delay effects and a wide stereo mode for enhanced spatial depth.

Hands-Free Expression

The DD-8 offers extensive real-time delay options to bring your music to life. You can tap in tempos with the onboard pedal switch and control the Warp and GLT modes for unique expressive effects. Adding one or two optional footswitches unlocks more creative possibilities, like on-demand tap tempo, extended looper control and a Twist effect for soaring echo sounds. An expression pedal provides continuous control of level, feedback or delay time—or all at once.

Built-in Looper and Smart I/O

The DD-8's looper mode offers up to 40 seconds of recording time to create on-the-fly backing tracks and ambient layers. The DD-8's inputs and outputs have smart functionality, allowing you to set the pedal for any application by connecting cables in different ways. A variety of mono and stereo connections are supported, including discrete dry and effect outputs for wet/dry setups.

Reverb Effects & Delay Pedals

Electronic instruments are well known for their great versatility and all of the amazing sounds that they can produce. In many cases, those effects all come down to skillful use of the right pedals by a talented musician. When you're equipping your pedalboard, some of the first units you should look at are delay and reverb effects pedals. Delay pedals enable you to put a note on a timer and have it come back a few measures later. They're perfect for holding off a chord, then having it kick back in with a new sound layered in on top of it for cool combination effects. For example, you might mix a long, sustained note together with a more complex riff to briefly become your own rhythm guitarist. You can play a chord against itself to double up into a deeper, richer tone, or even simulate an echo for atmospheric effect.

Some delay pedals also come with full looping abilities, allowing you to play detailed multi-part melodies completely by yourself. A few artists to look to for great examples of delay pedal use are Angels and Airwaves, U2 and Muse. Reverb pedals are an entirely different animal. It brings its own unique type of sustain to a note, infusing the sound with strong texture and character through its distinctive echo. Creating a sound not quite like any other effect, reverb calls to mind the energetic surfer rock of the 1960s, such as Dick Dale's version of "Misirlou." You can stay true to those vintage roots or take the effect in a new, modern direction—it's up to you. With the added dimension they bring to your tone, you'll want to use your delay and reverb effects pedals at every performance. They make a unique contribution to the sound individually and even more so when you use them as a team.
