Keylab 49 is Arturia's professional-grade MIDI keyboard, combined with the powerful Analog Lab software. With its 49 keys, knobs, sliders and pads, it is made for performance and maximum expression, with velocity and aftertouch in addition to a set of knobs, faders and pads, as well as full connectivity on the back panel (like expression and sustain).

This premium controller gives the fullest access to Arturia's Analog Lab software; its pre-assigned controls make it the perfect solution for plug and play sound creation. Once the software is connected to the keyboard, you can put your mouse away and experience the same workflow as on a traditional hardware synthesizer.

With Keylab 49, discover a new depth of access to the synth patches so you can really get in and customize the huge library of internationally designed presets. A new Multi mode allows several sounds to be played at the same time with the addition of effects, layer/split functions and a Chord mode. In addition, the keyboard (like all of the Keylab series) can be easily used in any other software context. Keylab also acts as a Universal Midi controller, compatible with any third party software and hardware.

Analog Lab Software

Analog Lab is an extremely powerful software synthesizer solution with over 5000 classic synthesizer sounds from Arturia's premier vintage analog recreations at your fingertips. It offers the ability to do fast and simple editing and customizing of your presets but it doesn't stop there; owners of the original individual synthesizer software products or the V Collection can open an Analog Lab sound and edit it in the original software, save it and then add it to their library.

Graphic Studio mode
Graphic Studio mode allows you to view the synthesizers and keyboards whose sounds make up the library in Analog Lab.

Sound Mode
When you need to find your sounds fast, choose the Sound Mode and you will have multiple options for choosing and selecting your sounds. The data filtering allows you to narrow your search and helps you find that special Bass or Pad sound you need. The updated browser allows you to rate the sounds to your own liking, choose favorites, arrange your columns and sort by name, type, sound designer, favorite, ratings, etc.

Multi Mode
Imagine being able to layer the rich pads of a CS-80 and Jupiter 8 together or being able to create a split with your signature Mini V bass on the bottom and a twisted Wurlitzer on top. The new multi mode allows you to create your own layers and splits in a fast and easy way. Just drag and drop your chosen sounds. You can further sculpt your sound by processing each layer with a plethora of effects. There are 15 high quality and unique effects that will allow you to create a wild variations on the existing sounds.

Live Mode
Drag and drop Sounds or Multis to create a selection of presets to be recalled quickly from your Arturia controller

The PADS tab on the lower hardware section of the screen will open when you click on it to reveal the number of pads that your Arturia controller has. You can then program these pads to play individual notes or chords. These can be set to send notes or chords from a list of standard chords and voicing's.

The Snapshot tab will allow you to access your favorite sounds immediately. Simple drag and drop your favorite MULTI or SOUND program onto the snapshot button and then you can recall that sound with a simple press.

Software Integration
Analog Lab is a virtual instrument, which means that sounds are processed within the computer. It can be used as a stand-alone application or as a plug-in within main sequencer programs including Steinberg Cubase, Digidesign Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Apple Logic Audio, MOTU Digital Performer, and Cakewalk Sonar.

Hardware integration
The user customizable MIDI mapping allows you to control the parameters you want to control with your favorite keyboard. Better than that, use an Arturia Keyboard controller and the interface will automatically change to show the knob and slider layouts so that you get a slick 1:1 user interface.

Compatibility Notice: OS X 10.11 El Capitan (release date 9/30/15)
As with all major operating system updates, it is vital to check the compatibility of your hardware and software before upgrading your system. For new computer owners, it' highly advised to check with manufacturers on when they expect their products to be fully compatible with the latest operating system.

Comments about Arturia KeyLab 49 Keyboard Controller:

After 6 months the internal bracing on one of the keys broke so that the key sticks up at an odd angle. Various Arturia forums indicate that this is a common problem, with broken keys occurring right out of the box for many Keylab customers. Guitar Center would not help me since I hadn't purchased an extended warranty. It is covered under Arturia's warranty but they have no support number and have stopped returning emails for this problem, apparently. If you don't plan on purchasing an extended warranty from the retailer, you should not buy an Arturia Keylab keyboard!

Poor Quality

from Albany, New York

Comments about Arturia KeyLab 49 Keyboard Controller:

I was at first excited about purchasing this product due to its construction and look. but when i arrived home and opened the box to set up my keyboard i noticed that one of the knobs must of molded wrong and while turning the knob it wobbled. This was also similar with the faders as well. I didn't pay no mind (TRIED TO) to it because it functioned well for me. Also the pads sensitivity were horrible and required some force to reach higher sounds. Now two months down the road a piano key started to pop up instead of being leveled with the rest of the keys. This was my final straw. This midi keyboard is not worth the listed price in my opinion. The so called wood side panels are not even real wood that was carved and finished, it is simply processed wood with a nice laminate cover over it. I will never ever purchase another Arturia product ever again. My advice to you, stick with a brand that you know has high standards to their quality in their products. I am currently waiting to see if they will repair this for me, either way i plan on getting rid of it.

Beautiful solid all-around MIDI controller..

By Jon Gilbert

from Arlington, TX

Comments about Arturia KeyLab 49 Keyboard Controller:

First off, the construction is phenomenal. All aluminum body with real wood on the sides, very solid and has a heft at around 20lbs or so. Somewhat large footprint at 31 x 11.75 x 2.4in. This simply does not look or feel like some cheap toy like most M-Audio or Akai controllers. Full-size, semi-weighted, almost-synth-action keys are very smooth and don't feel squishy, and although semi-weighted, still feel quite light. The 16 pads are a little stiff, but very responsive nonetheless (comparable to Maschine pads but smaller) and flash back a light blue color when hit. Faders and encoders are all very smooth and sturdy, they do not wobble at all. Haven't utilized aftertouch yet so I can't comment there. Only downside is the short throw on the pitch and mod wheels. They are a little small, which is fine with me, but the pitch wheel specifically could have a little more range for my taste. All in all, a tank of a MIDI controller that's great as an all-in-one tool for a home studio (I don't recommend gigging with a big white keyboard, no matter how sturdy). Plug-and-play, no hassles so far, very satisfied. Thanks Arturia!

Great keyboard, terrible service

By William

Comments about Arturia KeyLab 49 Keyboard Controller:

I love the Keylab. It works seamlessly with
Arturia and other VSTs. Guitar Center another story, however.
The product arrived with a broken pitch bend wheel.
I needed the keyboard replaced immediately for a Pink Floyd show.

Because Guitar Center shipped it out from one of their stores,
and not their warehouse, they couldn't simply replace it immediately.
Bad business. Stick with Sweetwater

  • Analog Lab Software

  • Very poor quality keybed

Best Uses

Comments about Arturia KeyLab 49 Keyboard Controller:

Overall its good looks and solid build add up to nothing when the keybed is extremely poor in quality. After all, it is a keyboard above anything else and its use revolves around this. My complaint isn't just limited to minuet preference in playing feel either. All the black keys failed to engage with normal playing velocity and pressure out of the box and only do so if they are struck very strongly. The result is that all flats/sharps are essentially unplayable in a musical way. Adjusting settings on the Keylab49 did not work. I dismissed the problem when new, but breaking the keybed in by attempting to play it normally has not resolved the problem. I tried weighing the keys down with books to break in the felt pads, but this also did not work. Only after removing every black key and reshaping the contact points with a file, did notes engage with a reasonable pressure and velocity. It's much more playable now. In terms of key feel, it's not crips as it should be and the keys bend considerably which makes using after touch and velocity mushy. What is good, is the Arturia Analog Lab software that comes bundled with the unit. Some of the virtual synths sound fantastic for what they are and are at very least inspiring. Final word: DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT. Consider the Arturia V collection that Analog Lab uses if you're into that sorta thing and use a better controller.
