Overview

Alvarez's Artist Series represents the pivotal point in the company's history when they began to forge their own unique identity as a guitar designer. The slope shoulder ARD70E dreadnought recalls the excitement of those early days with a style and flexibility that is truly “Alvarez." The ARD70E is constructed of a hand-selected, A-grade solid Sitka spruce top with rosewood body, and a rosewood fingerboard with paua abalone and mother-of-pearl inlays. Other features include a hand-sanded, scalloped bracing, a slotted headstock,12th fret body joint, real bone nut, an bi-level bridge, vintage chrome tuners and real bone nut and saddle. Finishing it off is a B-BAND SYS650 preamp.

SYS650 Preamp Designed by B-BAND
The 650 uses B-BAND's patented electret film technology instead of piezo materials. A piezo pickup tends to import a sound of their own into the electrified tone, which is often described as synthetic. You don't get this with the B-BAND technology which works similar to that of a condenser microphone, allowing for excellent reproduction of the instruments true voice. The SYS650 is a dual pickup system incorporating one under-saddle pickup and a transducer pickup placed under the soundboard. Either pickup can be selected or you can blend between the two to find subtle changes in response for lead, picking or rhythm work. The system also has a fully chromatic, precision tuner with backlit LCD screen; 3-bands of rotary EQ and a great notch control that identifies and deals with any feedback extremely well.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series ARD70E Sloped Shouldered Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Always wanted a 12-fret since the 1970s working in a music store and playing an old 12-fret Martin. And now I got really nice 12-fret with all that dreadnought bass and balance. And the sale price at GUITAR CENTER is unbelievable at over 60% off! With the 12th fret at the body, the center sound hole, bridge and X-bracing are moved. There seems less lift on the bridge from string tension as it is closer to the sides. So the idea of the 2-level Alvarez bridge putting extra string pressure on the bone saddle seems good. The laminate rosewood back and sides are durable - and the solid spruce seems a mm or so thicker - all great for gig-wear. With all this, the performance is truly excellent, with those grand-piano-like bass tones I only get on a super jumbo, yet shimmering high and more mid-range tones for a balance that is great for fingerpicking, vocal backing, chunky strum chording, Travis pickings, or even bluegrass crispies. And all the volume you could want. This blows away the others. I love the retro, pre-1930s looks with the 12-fret neck, simple glossy finish tones, and open slotted tuners. I see that Alvarez has discontinued this model and seems to be using Guitar Center to clear them out, with the limited lifetime warranty. What a guitar, what a deal - get it while you can!

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series ARD70E Sloped Shouldered Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Wow spent a while looking for the right one and was a little apprehensive about a 12 fret guitar but man does this thing ring. Placement of the bridge towards the center of the solid Sitka gives this this guitar the body and volume that blows 14 fretters away. The rosewood back and sides are beautiful, solid, and give this guitar great response. The action is great not as low as som but I like that it keeps buzz away when jamming, neck may be a little wide but again I like it because I have large hands and it helps me keep a clarity in my playing. Only plugged in once and the electronics sound promising (still have to fiddle with it more) but hey it's the same ones that Alvarez uses for their masterworks guitars so how bad can they be. Very happy customer.
