Overview

The Alvarez Artist Series AJ80CE Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar is big, bright and beautiful. The solid A grade Sitka tops with forward scalloped bracing lets this guitar really sing and the player experience is fantastic, you can really feel the energy of this guitar vibrate against your chest. Like most classic Jumbos the '80 has maple back and sides and all natural, premium components throughout. This acoustic-electric version is fitted with the awesome SYS550 pickup system EQ with chromatic tuner.

The term "solid top" of course refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it does not necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to really release the energy a solid soundboard can generate. The Artist Series is built to do exactly this.

Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce a tone and player experience, rarely found in affordable instruments.

The sound is warm, open and powerful, and both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other. These guitars feel right and are exciting to play and responsive.

The solid ˜A' grade Sitka spruce tops are hand selected from quarter-sawn wood. This ensures consistent quality, and its no secret better guitars are made from better wood. These tops not only look great but they are stiff and strong and finely grained. This allows them to be cut just that tiny bit thinner, which lets them dance a little more and produce a lot more vibration, and ultimately a richer tone.

New Artist Series guitars look stunning and all of their components are made of natural materials such as mother of pearl and abalone inlays, real bone saddles and nuts and rosewood appointments.

SYS550 dual pickup
The SYS550 designed by B-BAND is a pro-level EQ and pickup that reproduces the sound of the guitar very closely with great clarity. B-BAND uses a patented under saddle electret film pickup which eliminates synthetic or processed sounds often heard with piezo or other styles of pickup. The result is a very true, acoustic sound. SYS550 also has an accurate, backlit chromatic digital tuner.

Well Done Alvarez!

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AJ80CE Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Just do it. This beauty should be at least 3 times the price tag. Maybe more! So many features and it is quite stunning to look at from any angle. When you play your first chord which will more than likely be an open D, you will be almost ready to open your wallet. Both neck and fretboard feel so nice! The action was perfect right out of the box. The Sitka top along with the forward bracing--maple back and sides help make this guitar what it is. And it sounds HUGE. No more getting drowned out! The machines are nice and smooth while the Bone nut and saddle do their job nicely. The dual band electronics are incredible. Between the under bridge pickup and the under soundboard transducer, you can use either or--or easily blend your sound in an instant. It's very easy to dial in ANY sound or tone you like with the very responsive electronics this guitar has. And the tuner? Absolutely perfect. 12th fret marker only however you do have the standard dots on the necks binding so no worries there. 1/4 inch or XLR inputs make this baby even more verstile. This guitar is as solid as they come and I would put it up against any of it's higher end counter parts. And I don't just say that. It's true, and it's worthy. I have had this for almost six months now and couldn't be happier. It's aging like fine wine. I could say alot more but I will just end off the way I started. Just do it! You won't regret it. And hurry before they raise the price on this thing!

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AJ80CE Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

After and "if" I am able to fix its issues of high action and fret buzz
I will perform with it in church, and practice sessions and while I continue to teach children how to play
I will play this during our sessions.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AJ80CE Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Acoustic Ninja here:
I really wanted to love this Jumbo guitar but,..

I have owned Alvarez guitars since 1973.
The past confidence in their quality led me to recently purchase two additional Alvarez guitars.

The first was a classical AC65HCE. The craftsmanship of the classical was superb but I can not say that about my latest purchase regarding the Alvarez Jumbo AJ80CE.

This Jumbo almost looks like a blemished product. On the back of the guitar there are a number of distinct brown/burned looking spots in the maple. Probably not that big of a deal and perhaps I'm just being a little picky here but the maple wood doesn't seem to be up to the quality advertised or what one might have expected from Alvarez.

This particular Jumbo's action is fairly terrible as the strings are quite high off of the finger board. The guitar is possible to play like this but you quickly tire of having to use excessive pressure on the strings. This makes it not fun to play and a guitar that isn't fun doesn't get played. To fix this problem it will most likely require lowering the saddle, Nut or both, to get the action where it should have been in the first place.

It is strange that a setup issue like this exists when considering the fact that there is a red sticker included with the Jumbo that states:

"Shop Adjusted St. Louis Music".

I am not sure what they did but a basic setup could not have been done as Alvarez advertised.

Where the neck meets the guitars body underneath, there is slight roughness in the finish/clear coat where the two woods meet.

It's almost as if it didn't get fully clear coat sprayed or that there is a slight amount of glue still in this area on top of the neck/guitar joint.
On the top side in the same location where the woods meet, the finish is nice and smooth without any problem as it should be.
To me this shows a lack of consistency in quality and craftsmanship.

Overall at a distance, the looks of the Jumbo are pretty good and it fits the Alvarez ca
