Overview

Master Luthiers around the world have been crafting bevel-edged armrest guitars for some time. The feature not only makes the guitar more comfortable to play, but also allows the maker to demonstrate their skill and craftsmanship in producing beautiful instruments. Inline with their philosophy of making great guitars accessible to as many players as possible, Alvarez Artist Series now offers superbly designed armrest models. The AG70EAR delivers the great tone Artist Series is known for while also being a beautiful, affordable guitar.

Alvarez Guitars
After 50 years of making guitars, continual improvement through the use of emerging technologies, processes and materials is still at the heart of their culture. Alvarez guitars are constructed correctly in every sense, from raw material preparation to construction and manufacturing processes. Tonewoods are carefully cured; components such as neck blocks and wood joints are carefully designed. The painting, sanding and polishing techniques used are continually researched and developed, and tone is impeccably crafted and married to a stable, consistent and lively sound box.

This caring approach to development comes from one simple goal: To deliver the best guitars in the market at every price point, instruments that are truly amazing value and offer a fantastic player experience.

Artist Series
Alvarez believes their multi-award-winning Artist Series is one of the finest solid top guitar lines in the world today and demonstrates our commitment to design. The term "solid top” refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it does not necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to optimize the energy a solid soundboard can generate. Artist Series is built to do exactly this.

Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce balance, lively projection and great response. These components include Alvarez's FST2 bracing system, bi-level rosewood bridge, real bone nut and saddle, great quality tonewoods and thin finish. FST2 is a forward shifted X-brace design, meaning the axis of the X is closer to the sound hole and therefore creates a larger soundboard area allowing for more energy and vibration to be harnessed. Both the X braces and asymmetric tone bars are carefully scalloped. The scalloping design was the result of years of continual development in their Yairi workshops.

The Artist Series sound and personality is open and powerful. FST2 also creates very good balance so both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other. Artist Series feel right and are exciting to play; no matter if you are strumming hard or picking lightly, the guitar will do what you ask of it.

Along with a more angled headstock, their bi-level bridge increases string tension by making the break angel of the strings from the saddle to the top more acute. Improved string tension adds to the sound, feel and response, which are also heightened by the use of real bone nuts and saddles.

Comments about Alvarez AG70CEAR Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm a primarily self-taught acoustic fingerstyle guitarist. I've been looking for a great sounding solid top that I wouldn't be afraid to take on the road and beat up a bit, and this one hits the spot! After putting on a set of medium Martin Lifespan SP strings along with a personal setup, this guitar just came to life! It has plenty of highs and lows, and a suprisingly rich midrange despite the body shape! Although the back and sides are laminated wood, I forget half the time becuase the craftsmanship of the guitar is impeccable and the wood just looks absolutely gorgeous. The L.R. baggs piezo system is probably one of the sweetest sounding and easily adjustable under-saddle only pickups I've heard, especially for this price range. Highly durable construction, even the weight makes it feel like a real all-solid wood guitar! 10/10 would recommend to anyone, even a professional.

Greatly Disappointed

About Me Experienced

Comments about Alvarez AG70CEAR Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Being a satisfied owner of two higher end Alvarez guitars and not satisfied with some Taylor's I tried, I decided to order this Alvarez. The first one came off a wall from a Guitar Center in New York. It had a crack in the neck ... obviously not a new guitar. I returned it and ordered one from the warehouse.
After a short wait for restocking, the new one arrived. Looked beautiful. Sounded wonderful ... on the lower end of the neck. The further up the neck I played, the more fret buzz I experienced. Even after a neck adjustment, most of the fret buzz remained.
I returned it the day after it arrived.
I definitely would not recommend this guitar. I do, however, applaud my local Guitar Center for the hassle-free returns. They went above and beyond to try and make me a satisfied customer.

About Me Experienced

Comments about Alvarez AG70CEAR Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've played stringed instruments for over 40 years and have 20+ guitars and banjos, including a 1977 Alvarez Yairi DY78 that is one of the finest instruments I've ever owned or played. I recently purchased three different Taylor guitars and returned them all (one of the great advantages of shopping Guitar Center ... no hassle return!). Having two other Alvarez guitars (an AJ 12), I decided to try this grand concert. The sound is beautiful ... better than any of the three Taylors (two of which just had a muddy sound). The LR Baggs system is good. Not great, but good. The workmanship is nice, though there is one spot where the binding is less than perfect, nothing critical though. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is that it has a lot of fret buzz all the way up the neck. I talked with my guitar tech and he says it will probably go away with some adjusting. Once he takes a look at it and assuming the buzz can be aleviated, I would change my rating to 5 stars.
