Overview

The Artist Series AD610CESB is an elegant, cosmetically rich guitar with a powerful and open tone. The solid A+ Sitka spruce top generates a great amount of energy to make this an exciting and responsive instrument suitable for any style of music.

The Shadowburst finish on the AD610CESB is stunning, carefully crafted to produce a mirror-deep shine and sophisticated appearance. It is fitted with the SYS250 3-band EQ with notch filter and backlit digital tuner.

After 50 years of making guitars, continual improvement through the use of emerging technologies, processes, and materials is still at the heart of their culture. Alvarez guitars are constructed correctly in every sense, from raw material preparation to construction and manufacturing processes. Tonewoods are carefully cured; components such as neck blocks and wood joints are carefully designed, and the painting, sanding and polishing techniques used are continually researched and developed. The result is a tone impeccably crafted and married to a stable, consistent and lively sound box.

The AD610CESB is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce balance, lively projection and great response. These components include Alvarez's FST2 bracing system, bi-level rosewood bridge, real bone nut and saddle, high-quality tonewoods and thin high gloss finish.

FST2 is a forward shifted X brace design. This means the axis of the X is closer to the sound hole, creating a larger soundboard area and allowing for more energy and vibration to be harnessed. Both the X braces and asymmetric tone bars are carefully scalloped. FST2 also creates very good balance so both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other.

Artist Series guitars feel right and are exciting to play; no matter if you are strumming hard or picking lightly, the guitar will do what you ask of it. Along with a more angled headstock, Alvarez's bi-level bridge increases string tension by making the break angle of the strings from the saddle to the top more acute. Improved string tension adds to the sound, feel and response, which is also heightened by the use of real bone nuts and saddles.

Simply amazing

Comments about Alvarez AD610CESB Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar at a probably deepest possible discount. If one compares it with an MARP on Alvarez website, it's simply mind-boggling. For truly a fraction of the price, I've got an incredible instrument. The finish is impeccable, the design is eye-catching, the neck is thin and very smooth for fast play; it's got a softer sound, perfect for bossa-nova, jazz, perhaps even flamenco. I would stop short of suggesting nylon strings for this instrument. Granted, the strings must be replaced by something more upscale and appropriate for the guitar the day it arrives. The preamp is superb and I think it's right the way it should be for under 1000-buck guitar.

On the shortcomings. (1) For the one I've got, G and D strings are mildly out of intonation. The tuner feels either a bit oversensitive or slow - I haven't decided yet ... but I'm using another tuner for the guitar.

Even with these small hiccups, I rate this instrument with 5 stars. When I started playing Jobim after I received the package and tuned the guitar I felt myself on the seventh heaven.

One more suggestion - I wish the instrument would have come with some case. However, for the amount I paid for a brand new guitar it would have been a hutzpa.
