I used these speakers for a small outdoor patio event, under a canopy. I matched the speakers with a home theater 8" sub woofer that I bought for my studio but was too powerful. Adding frequencies below the rated 75Hz on the low end to 25Hz added just the right amount. My sub is a 300 watt 8" long throw driver, ported down firing. I put it under the table I was using. The sound was lush with a well defined mid-high that carved out a nice place for people brunching. I played two analog synths, a electribe and kp3 through small mixer to these speakers. I turned the speakers up half way and had plenty of headroom. The resulting sound was deep and comfortable. Not at all harsh. I would say for the small, intimate venue combined with a sub this combination is really unbeatable at this price range. You could use reference monitors but that is overkill and forces you mold the final mix to make the result comfy. If you are playing music for a small crowd from electronic sources, mobile DJ app etc...these speakers are really the only inexpensive quality option. Great combo with small HT sub. Alone the speakers sound adequate for most, but for my application and my preference I needed to add the low end (any speaker that rates 75hz-20Khz will benefit from the addition of a well balanced subwoofer. I can't speak on the reliability as I have used them only a few times.

I purchased one of these to test for use in a band practice environment, running vocals and keyboards through a mixer and into the speaker. I was impressed with the build quality of the speakers, and the sound wasn't bad given the price, but the little 8" speaker just can't handle the bass from my Alesis synth. I think this would be fine if used only for vocals; just don't try running anything with pronounced bass through it. Also, I feel like the rating of 280w (140w continuous) is a bit over-rated; it sounds more like 50-60 watts to me, which is still plenty for most practice environments. I was impressed enough with the speaker that I am going to try one of the TX-12s; with the larger speaker and 300w continuous power rating that will hopefully be able to handle the keyboards as well as vocals.

Played a loud bowling alley/sports bar with these and was highly impressed! Solid sound with 2 guitars and 3 vocals, plenty of bass response and volume! And so very light to haul and set-up was a defininate plus! These will be my go to speakers instead of my other higher priced, heavier speakers. Definately recommend these bad boys!

Comments about Alto TX8 8" Active Loudspeaker:

Bought two of these to use at smaller events, or where I might need to have sound in a second smaller room such as a reception area, or cocktail room. When using as mains, I always use a sub. Paired with a 12" sub, crossed at about 100hz they sound great. After they were broken in, the bass response was actually better than I expected, and for second room small space background music, I don't really even need to run a sub. I usually run them using a wireless setup when I use them for background music, their small size and decent sound output, makes them easy to hide when dressing a venue for stealth applications.

Comments about Alto TX8 8" Active Loudspeaker:

We bought two of these for our public spoken word performances, which we do at indoor venues that hold up to 200 people. They work very well - loud enough, clear, very portable. Only one XLR input per speaker, so you'll need to go from a mixer into one speaker and then an XLR to the second speaker, if you're using two.

Comments about Alto TX8 8" Active Loudspeaker:

Not sure why some folks would say they have limited use. The reason I bought mine is because they have multiple uses.

Add a mixer and they make for a nice, little portable P.A. If you've already got an active system, these make a nice little addition as monitors.

I also use them to rehearse my acoustic act in my home studio. It helps give a much better idea of what it will sound like in a "live performance" venue.

That's a lot of uses for this little baby....and at a reasonable price too!

Comments about Alto TX8 8" Active Loudspeaker:

Purchased to create a portable multi-point sound system for experimental electronics, as well as onstage monitor for smaller set-ups. First heard these when a friend purchased a pair as stage monitors for a bar band. Sound is fairly clear, with acceptable amounts of distortion. Not the cleanest sounding amp when cranked up all the way, but when operating at line levels (volume turned no more than halfway), they pump good volume. With my Soundcraft Spirit pushing just about 0 out, was getting a solid 90db about 15 feet away. Plenty for an onstage monitor or small system. The quality is surprisingly good, acceptable for talking head, bar bands, and even experimental electronic (where folks pride themselves on needing the best sound systems). They're not Meyer UPJ-1a's, but they're also 1/10th of the price.

They lack bass, but when paired with a sub (in my case an Alto TS215s), they filled out quite nicely. Took a little time to tune them up, but wasn't much of an issue. If you do not plan on getting a sub, assume that your bass will be lacking. If you are want just a pair for performance, get a pair of Alto TS215. You will not regret that decision.

The TX8s are incredibly lightweight, compact, and durably constructed. Throwing 5 of them and the sub in my car is easy -- they all fit, along with cabling, stands, mixer, etc. I do not drive a large truck, just Hyundai Elantra. For less than $1k, you can have a 2 speaker, 2 sub system, including poles and cabling if you shop around (2 Tx8s, 2 Ts212s, sub-speaker poles, xlr). Or you can do a single sub system (plenty for a small club/bar), and get a mixer and a couple mics. Any way you hash it, these are a good deal, and easily sound as good as the slightly more expensive Behringer speakers.
