So, you are looking for a nice electronic drum kit that sounds great, is built well and doesn't look like a toy. Most people would say that to get all of these things you would need to look at a Roland TD-30K V-Pro Series ($4,000) or possibly even the Roland TD-50K ($8,000). This is fine if you just won the lottery, but for most people it's a bit of a stretch.

Then along comes the Alesis Strike Pro. At $2,299 it's about half of what a TD-30K would cost and about a fourth of a TD-50K. And you get much more. Four toms (8", 10", 12", 14"), a 14" snare, three choke-able crashes, actual wood shells and the list goes on and on. This is by far the best value on the e-drum market.

I can't emphasize how great this kit looks. It crushes Roland and Yamaha in that respect. And it sounds amazing. The 110 pre-loaded kits sound great and you have an incredible amount of flexibility with creating your own sounds, loops, samples and more. Not to mention that the Strike Editor software (Mac & PC) is coming soon which will provide even more flexibility with creating your own kits. The module also has eight individual outputs, which is great for recording or if you want to run triggers to different channels while playing live.

A few things to mention:

- Be patient. This is brand new to market and it's been back ordered. I ordered mine on April 30th and it arrived on June 12th.

- Before you do anything, make sure that the firmware on the module is version 1.10. If it is version 1.0, connect it to your Mac or PC and update it. It is a must, as it vastly improves trigger settings and the hi-hat performance. (Most negative reviews were from before this update. Rumor has it that another firmware update is on the way.)

Once you do that, you should have a pretty easy go of tweaking the kit to your own playing style. Personally, I love this kit. It has met or exceeded my expectations in almost every area. I would highly recommend it for drummers from beginners to gigging professionals.

Everyone knows that Alesis makes nice looking products for the price. Very enticing when you consider that the competition offers half of the pieces for double the price... but one must wonder how Alesis was able to accomplish this. Well... pretty simple. They threw together some software and slapped pads on nicely covered plastic, and released the Strike Pro kit without even testing for glitches.
As other reviews read, the hi hats suck. Useless really. Only one area on the pad actually reads full force and the rest of it sucks. Getting it to read the hats opening and closing is impossible unless you have the leg of a gorilla and can stomp down with a whales weight in pressure for a full close.
The ride cymbal literally just dies out on me after a few minutes of playing, and I have to restart the brain in order to bring it back to life. The bass drum sensor is a tad touchy as well, but that's the least of the problems. Honestly... issues like these for the price point, is absolutely unacceptable. I bought this kit because I was tired of having terrible electronic drum kits and I wanted a serious kit I could use for live performances as well as practice and maybe even recording. This is NOT the kit. It looks great, plays great, and has great features with great sound... if only it worked correctly half the time.

For an Alesis set, I am pleased. I give it 3.5 stars.

    By Jason

Comments about Alesis Strike Pro Kit:

I have always been a Roland drummer. But I decided to give Alesis a try.

Price: I would actually give the price a 5 star rating. For what you get, compared to a similar Roland kit, you definitely get a good bang for your buck!

Quality: However, the quality isn't as good out of the box as what a Roland set would offer. Once you download the trigger and OS updated (which is super easy to do) the set is pretty good. Sound quality, as with any Edrum, lacks a little. But that's expected.

Size: The size is amazing. Most Edrums make you feel a little cramped. But this set makes you feel like you're playing an acoustic set.

In the end, I am happy with the purchase. I feel like it was money well spent. As Edrums go, this is a good choice. If Alesis continues to build on and perfect this, I think it will give Roland some good competition.

This set is amazing! At first, it wasn't worth it due to problems with the firmware, but I stuck with it instead of jumping ship like other people did. The quality is amazing as well as the sound. Would recommend to anyone beginners to pros.

Great Kit only after Firmware Update.

    By kyle

Comments about Alesis Strike Pro Kit:

I was pretty upset with the purchase at first, but the firmware update fixed many of the ghost triggering problems and made the hi-hat triggering issue mentioned in other reviews. Some further tweeking in the module dialed this thing in for me. Excited about more updates and the sound editor that is set to be released. Definitely worth price tag.

Comments about Alesis Strike Pro Kit:

Overall it's a pretty nice kit for the price. It took me about 2.5 hours to setup by myself from the moment i opened the box. Some small issues with ghost triggering and getting the hi-hat working is going to take some tweaking. I hope they fix these issues in a firmware release. Giving the kit a 3 on my review now but will increase that if the next firmware update fixes my issues.

Update: There is no way to delete or edit my prior review so I was told to put another one up. I received the firmware update and it didn't fix all of my issues. I spent dozens of hours tweaking and trying to fix both myself and with support. This is a nice drum set for the price, but still - the cymbals, especially the ride and hi-hat are not very good. There are still a couple of bugs that pop up the longer the unit is on. Cross-sticking on the snare also does not work well every time. I REALLY wanted this to be the set I could have in my home for life. I can't have an acoustic kit due to volume. Opting for a Roland at twice the price instead. I will choose yes to recommend but only to an average drummer. Not someone who wants to be able to be nuanced on the cymbals or hi-hat.

Comments about Alesis Strike Pro Kit:

I have been playing this kit in a rehearsal setting for 1 month now. There are some major flaws. The rubber rim split in 3 places. I am not an armature and have been a pro for 30 years. I'm not hitting hard either (5A's). After the download took care of the HH and cymbal issues, i now have major problems with the snare playing by itself even after cross talking was dialed in better. The sensitivity does not respond properly to ghost notes and randomly the hit is 4x the volume even with the same touch. Additionally, the rims are changing voices randomly. The tom rim goes from the standard tom click to a cowbell then back without any logical reason. Called Alesis and the CS person was rude and obnoxious.

This set has too many issues. Would you buy a car or a house with so many faults. Everyone (including myself) wants to love this set, but unfortunately there are just too many issues with it. And knowing the quality of Alesis products, buying something flawed is not going to age better with time.

Not sure about some of these negative comments.. I've been playing percussion for 20 years and this is a great kit. I've had several friends play around on it and have got nothing but positive feedback. The 3 cons would be the ghost note floor Tom and sketchy hi hat which were both cleared up in the 1.3 firmware update. The third would be the fact it's basically immobile. It's Big, heavy and a pain to move so if you plan on taking it on tour I wouldn't. I'd recommend using at home as a great practice kit. I'm not saying you can't move it but I feel it'd just be a lot.

Comments about Alesis Strike Pro Kit:

Wants to be a "real" drum set. It's pointless to have this. It misses the point of being an electronic set, in size, weight and usability. Plus it just doesn't work right. I'm so frustrated. E-drums should be plug and play. This thing is endless calls to Alesis, forum questions and answers and in the end, the sounds aren't that good.

Just go out and build your own hybrid set out of real quality drums and triggers. Then you'll have a full size set that you can play live and at home.

Comments about Alesis Strike Pro Kit:

I'll say right out the gate that I'm glad I bought one of these after they already worked some of the kinks out with the firmware 1.3 update. As some people have said, this is *not* the kit to just pull out of the box, plug in, and play. But then again, what acoustic kit worth its weight is like that either? But Alesis didn't do themselves any favors by releasing the kit a bit early and racking up some negative reviews due to the hi hat issue.

So, the negatives first: getting the hi hat right really can be a pain. It takes time and care to dial these in. And the instructions for putting the whole thing together really are pretty sparse. It took me about 3 hours. Also, the blue lights on the module kinda mess with my eyes and can be a little blurry.

Now, the positives: holy cow these pads are awesome. They feel and look amazing. The responsiveness is phenomenal and you get SO MUCH KIT for a very reasonable price. I'll be the first to admit that the module wasn't a huge selling point for me since I always planned on running superior drummer. BUT, there are some phenomenal sounds (especially the two kits with the 1.3 update). Plus, a few of them are just really, really fun to play. Similar to the physical hardware, the software in the module provides a huge bang for the buck. If Roland already had a reputation for being way overpriced, Alesis didn't do them any favors.

I thought about giving the kit a 4 *just* because of the issues at first, but considering it's a fairly simple fix at this point and just how good these pads are for the price, it really seems like the Strike Pro deserves full marks.

Comments about Alesis Strike Pro Kit:

I went through two different sets of the pro model. First and foremost the triggers on the snare, and toms are garbage. They are foam pillons on paper thin plastic that when played by a designed drummer crack, break and fall apart. Granted the drums sound great, but trigger failure does and will happen it's only a matter of time. The pillons are cheaply glued on and as said above rest on a very thin sheet of plastic. I recently returned the second kit for a full refund and bought an accoustic kit. I will never buy or refer online these drums again period. I have never played Roland's but ther is a reason why they are three times the price. I was so excited to have them and then instantly disappointed hat I had bought them. Another problem was with the jacks to be module. The first one had a problem with the headphone jack going in and out the second had problems with the inputs for the triggers. Again sound is phenomenal but also again eventually turns into an overpriced paper weight. Sorry to have said this wanted to love them but I am disgusted!

Comments about Alesis Strike Pro Kit:

I am a new drummer, electronic kit fit my need. I played on several kits and bought the crimson before this set. This is a great step up in quality albeit, price too. So far I am loving the kit and would encourage others to try it for themselves.

Comments about Alesis Strike Pro Kit:

This kit sounds fake and horrible. I thought it would be a huge step up from my entry level Roland mesh head kit. I couldn't have been more wrong. The samples sound like they are rerolled them from their early drum machines. And that is not a compliment. The snare is nice and is almost convincing and is by far the best part of the kit. The hi hat mechanism just doesn't work as everyone has noted. The drums themselves are very heavy, heavier than their real counterparts for the most part. The hardware is nice, and seems like it would last. I feel it is much better than my Roland hardware. I work as a sound man and have mixed many touring acts over the years and know what drums are supposed to sound like. These sound fake. Just like their cheap kits sound. I will be returning mine and will never consider any Alesis products in the future.

Comments about Alesis Strike Pro Kit:

Great Toms ! Best sound and look ever and really good hardware BUT the Hi-Hat auto triggering, Tone changes and Cymbal issues truly make this Kit useless to a real Drummer and its far to expensive for a beginner set. I worked for many hours trying to fix the constant Hi-Hat and Cymbal issues to know avail and left on hold with Alesis tech support for hours and the problems could not be resolved and I returned the set for my money back. Alesis needs to fix these issues and once they do look out this will be a great Drum set and I would be able to recommend it.

Don't waste your time. This is why acoustic drummers don't consider e-drums to be "real drums". Pads break, hi-hat sucks and is weighty and clunky, cymbals feel and the sound horrible, module is poorly made, and no amount of firmware updates will ever get this thing off the ground.

Don't buy this because it "looks nice". Print out a big photo of it and look at it, then get over it and buy a Roland kit. Everything I've ever bought from Alesis has been bad. This is like being in an abusive relationship... why did I return to this brand?!?
