The initial setup took a while as I am left handed.. However, right-handed players shouldn't have a problem assembling. It was well packed and all items clearly labeled. Out of the box, it sounds great through studio quality headphones, through a PA, or amp. I love the chrome drum frame.

It is completely customizable and allows many options for setup configurations. It is very solid once properly assembled. I was surprised at the quality... much better than Simmons or entry-level Roland. I haven't had an electronic drum set since my Roland kit back in 2001. What I like most is that I was able to integrate my existing Roland cymbal pad bass drum pedal/pad into the set, as well as midi my Alesis Performance Pad to add additional cymbals and percussion. It went from an 8-piece set to 18 piece. The expanded set allows for a more varied and interesting playing experience using a variety of cymbals.

Let me preface this by saying that I have been playing drums since 1981. I play progressive rock, jazz and metal, so I am no stranger to drumming. As far as playability, this set is tight. Yes it is all rubber heads, but it is an electronic drum set. If you want a real feel, get a real acoustic set. The the snare and tom pads are responsive and allow for fast and accurate playing. I read some negative reviews about the bass drum setup, but I have experienced no problems. It plays well when the pedal tension is properly set. Once you get accustomed to the hi-hat pedal and hats performance, doing tight hi-hat barks and chops is easy.

The Forge module itself is easy to operate, there's plenty of kits to fit whatever style you're looking for and it's easy to save custom setups. that was the first thing that I did... I created 10 custom setups with various voices and triggering settings.

As far as playing out with this set (or any electronic set), I don't think I would want to break it down, move it and set it up. Not that It wouldn't perform superbly for live use. 5 STARS!

Comments about Alesis Forge 8-Piece Electronic Drum Kit:

This kit has over 50 presets with 20 for you to fill, it sounds and looks legit and the module is really user friendly. I really like this set after owning a Yamaha DTX400 and hating electric kits because of that kit.

The Forge is the real deal, for the price, this kit rocks.

    from Pdx

    • Easy easy to set up

      Best Uses

Comments about Alesis Forge 8-Piece Electronic Drum Kit:

Unless you're going to pay more than $2,000 for an electronic kit you won't find one with this many features this sturdy. Took about 45 minutes to an hour to set up the drums , plugged in a long USB cable to my laptop and started laying down midi Beats with session drummer, BFD, and ezdrummer without need for a driver. I couldn't be happier with my purchase, and big props to Mike Byrd at GC Clackamas.

Comments about Alesis Forge 8-Piece Electronic Drum Kit:

From the minute I started unpacking the Alesis Forge Drum Kit I couldn't believe the care and quality that went into how it was packed and shipped, the ease at which everything was recognizable and marked clearly, the quality of each piece was phenomenal, every piece had that real high quality weight that you don't always get in products priced this low. It only took 45 minutes to assemble and start playing. I was blown away by the sound, ever after having played it in the store before hand, while researching, and having watched countless product and performance YouTube videos. This drum now completes my music room/studio and though not the most expensive piece of equipment I own, it is surely the best and will be the most used and enjoyable.

        Service and delivery comments:

I was surprised how quick the standard shipment was. I ordered on a Saturday and received everything by Wednesday, even with the Holiday on Monday.

I wish the toms and cymbals were larger but again, its a good start to have for under $500, but would have to get the better model to get larger.

Comments about Alesis Forge 8-Piece Electronic Drum Kit:

I'm a self-taught guitarist, who is not very good. But I've had good internal rhythm and have been interested in learning drums. The Alesis Forge kit is perfect for practicing at home. I have never played drums in my life, but was able to assemble this kit just by looking at the picture in about 90 minutes. Once assembled this kit is ready to play. I can play along with the pre-programmed songs or, and I actually prefer, to hook up my iPad and play along with my favorite songs. If you are someone who wants an elctronic kit to play gigs, this set probably isn't for you, but if you want to just "drum around" with durable, good sounding equipment this will be perfect. I highly recommend this product for beginners like me. Probably not for "seasoned veterans."

I've always played my acoustic kit, but I haven't played in a while and the Forge kit gives me the opportunity to get back into it consistently. All the options are great to use for practicing. Especially the play along tunes. Put on the headphones, throw on a track from the module or phone or other devices and your pretty much golden.

Comments about Alesis Forge 8-Piece Electronic Drum Kit:

I was looking for an e-kit for my brother. Something in a middle ground of price and quality. For the price the Forge is an excellent kit. It comes with an actual kick drum rather then just a pedal. It also has quite a few sets and customizations to play around with. It comes with everything but a throne so you can start playing right away. It also allows you to move the drums and cymbals around as you see fit. The drum heads are more like mesh, even though the description says rubber. I was very pleasantly surprised at this. You can hook it to headphones or a powered monitor. He lives in an apartment and it is quiet with the phones and small enough to fit in his bedroom. It also has some of the extras you would expect. Metronome, USB port, record and pre set music play options, midi, mp3. Outstanding for the price!

First things first, this is my "upgrade from rock band to real drums" drums.. and this Alesis Forge set is awesome! I highly recommend to anyone! I love how you can play any song off your phone or youtube and play along AND record everything you hear to your computer or flash drive! THEN play it back in iTunes! So cool. I have yet to buy adapters to connect the drums to rock band. I just have lost interest cause the set has so much to offer.

I am an experienced drummer who has been separated from my beloved Gretsch drumset while living in an apartment. The Alesis Forge is great because it gives me something to play on at home that sounds and feels high quality without an insane price tag. The drum module is very versatile and the frame is solid. The pads are responsive enough for rubber, but won't ever match mesh. I would recommend this set for drummers of any skill level who need the ability to practice quietly.

I needed a kit that would be versatile enough to fit in a small bedroom + not be noisy. I would say the Alesis ticks both those boxes and I am very happy with going with it over the Yamaha DTX400K. From a playing stand point, its a solid kit and the module is very intuitive and the sound good enough for practice sessions. You can also plug you phone in via aux and play along to drumless tracks. I would recommend it if you are a beginner/mid-level drummer and dont have a huge budget. PS. Its also really easy to setup, I was playing within 40mins of opening the box.
