A friend I met at some jam sessions was using the A20. It sounded so much better than any I had heard when attached to acoustic electric dreadnaught. I played my Martin 0015 thru it and really liked the sound. Stopped by my closest Guitar Center (OKC) and lo they had one new in box, but none on display. I asked the sales associate about the reviewed hiss/noise problem. He indicated had not been a problem before at this store. It just happened to be on sale, so I bought one. My Alvarez also sounds great thru the A20.

I am certainly not a pro but can't imagine getting a better acoustic amp for this very low price. (I have not yet used A20 for 20 hours, but have used at home and at two different jam sessions. I simply don't hear the noise or hiss other reviewers warn about.

Was looking for a smaller acoustic/practice amp for home use and when it arrived I was really pleased - nice construction, aesthetics, design, good looks/good fit...but has a VERY loud background hiss even at the lowest volume levels. I realize this doesn't have a dual Master/Channel volume set up, but the background noise was just so loud I had to return it. Tried a 2nd one out of the box - same thing. I also went to the local GC and tried out other similar-sized/priced amps, all of which had considerably lower background noise. If you play all loud, all the time then this might work - but any quiet interludes will be taken over by loud background hiss. I hope Acoustic can fix this - if they can, I'll pick up one (or two). If they can't then it's honestly just not ready for prime time.

White Noise a deterrent

By STEVEN

from Rochester, NY

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

I liked a whole lot of things about this A20 amp except for the unusually loud hiss (as mentioned by another reviewer). I showed up with an audio interface, mic cable and headset in order to check out the DI output on the back. With the pre/post switch in post position, the hiss was unbearable even with the treble control at normal 12 o'clock position. This is an issue if you are sending a signal to a board, because you will HAVE to send it pre-EQ. I opted for the older AG30 acoustic guitar amp for its warm and big sound, and solid build with no hiss whatsoever. The downside is that it is twice as heavy as the A20. But quality won out over convenience on this choice. Too bad, Acoustic, you had a great idea, but obviously no one bench tested it before distribution. For those that could care less about extraneous hiss and just play loud all the time, the A20 might just be thing for you. But for those of us that play acoustic/electric and appreciate clear and attractive audio quality at ANY volume, the A20 will prove to be problematic. The AG30 may not be carried by Guitar Center all that much as it is now a legacy product. But if you can get your hands on one (and don't mind the 44.5 lbs) you won't be sorry.

best little amp on the market!

By Roman

from San Gabriel, CA

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

I was helping a singer/songwriter friend of mine find a small acoustic amp. We listened to several decent ones, but were immediately impressed with the sound quality of the A20. It sounds like a full PA! she uses a mic and her acoustic guitar, and they both sound great through it. when playing bigger rooms, she uses the direct out and sends to the main PA. The digital reverb and chorus are great sounding and easy to use, and the chorus seems to have just the right amount of depth. The A20 is the only small amp I could find with feedback elimination, so that was a big plus! I highly recommend the A20 to anyone needing a lightweight, great sounding amp for their acoustic guitar or vocals.

Cons

Best Uses

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

I purchased this amp so I could use as a monitor, it worked great. The XLR output is amazing! There is no need for a direct box. It has the option for the EQ to be post or pre the output which allows you to only EQ what your hearing, or what is being sent to the PA. Some people said it hissed, it dose not. all speakers have a little noise but nothing out of the normal range, if you turn up the treble fully you can hear a slight hiss. The XLR inputs are nice too, it allows you to have a mic us a mic with out a extra hook up. Overall i love this amp it is very affordable and i would recommend this to anyone who is looking to play live or just practicing.

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

Was at my local GC checking out the acoustic amps in stock and came across this little guy. The size and price first got my attention "it was on sale and I had a gift card." I plugged her in and I was surprised with a nice clean sound and the two built in effects. This does not compare to higher end acoustic amps, but for a small amp to use at home or for a very small venue its perfect. I have read negative reviews of this infamous loud hissing but I havent noticed any of that? All and all, if you want a small value amp for practicing or playing say a coffee shop this would work just fine.

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

I too was skeptical about previous comments and stopped by the local GC. The amp looks really good but as soon as I turned it on, nothing plugged in and all levels at minimum, there was the annoying noise. I ended up spending more and got me a Fishman Loudbox mini instead.

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

I do a folk and gospel music sing-along ministry and I give guitar lessons at home.
I bought my Acoustic A20 almost three years ago. It has gone with me on almost every gig I've played.
My venues are cafeterias, nursing home day rooms, social halls, meeting halls, church sanctuaries etc.
It is not powerful enough to handle a very large hall or a large church sanctuary or an outdoor venue such as a company picnic or an outdoor concert.
This combo amp has proven itself to be a reliable work horse for me.
I only wish it were a bit lighter to carry.
I have previously sold my Line-6 combo amp and my Fender combo amp, but I'm keeping my Acoustic A20.

I got this for my wife for her birthday. She plays classical, and said she didn't need an amp. After a couple of weeks, she said, ya maybe an amp would be good. Being a drummer, I went on what the salesman at Guitar Center said. My wife was very happy with the choice. It's great for practice, and smaller jobs, but you can get good volume, and effects from it too. It has good depth, and a warm sound, and makes a box guitar sound full and clear. Thank you Guitar Center for your help!!

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

I read some of the reviews that said this amp is noisy. Not sure what the problem was but this amp is dead quiet - zero background noise. Sound quality is excellent through the coax speaker which gives more high frequency definition - a definite plus when using it for acoustic instruments. I use it for my tenor and the sound comes out with a very natural feeling. Quality of construction is excellent, as well. All the pots and controls operate smoothly with very good tracking. The equalizer section is very useful and the reverb sounds good. The feedback eliminator works like a notch filter with a sweepable frequency range and is quite effective. This is a great amp for small venues and, because of the direct out, it works great as a stage monitor while feeding a PA system for larger venues. My only suggestion would be to add phantom powering. If you do need phantom powering, the $25 Behringer PS400 works great. If I were to design an amp, this one would be really close. I highly recommend it.

Have used the A20 in small clubs and larger events using the built-in XLR DI output. The 8" speaker with coaxial tweeter delivers full-range, high-fidelity sound that replicates the acoustic instrument's natural timbre. Having a tunable feedback filter exceeds the price of this amplifier, along with 3-band EQ and chorus and reverb allow one to dial in the sound and eliminate feedback. With two combination XLR 1/4" inputs, one can use a variety of instruments and microphones for the individual situation. On a side note, we have used this an a bass amplifier for electric bass, with surprising sound.

I picked this up at my local Guitar Center. They had one on display so I got a chance to try it out. I'm very impressed with this amp. When I have either of my acoustic guitars plugged in I hear no noise whatsoever. I had a Fender Acoustasonic but it didn't have reverb on it and it sounded a little tinny sounding. This has a overall sweet sound. Try one you won't be disappointed.

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

I used this model to try out a guitar at GC and was amazed at all of its features, compact size and light weight. I didn't own an acoustic amp, but had borrowed a Marshall 150 watt on a couple of occasions. Sure; this amp was not a Marshall acoustic amp, but it also didn't sell for $800 bucks nor weigh 85 lbs. Since it seemed like a great value, I bought one.
At home practicing on my own, it at first seemed fine. Then I noticed that the chorus effect had a quarter-turn of dead action (no chorus effect) in the knob (0 to 9 o'clock). Then slightly increased, the chorus came on too strong.
At my first gig using the XLR out to board, I discovered that sometimes the EQ Pre/Post switch would work and sometimes it wouldn't. I returned the amp to GC, without any hassle GC replaced it with another Acoustic 20 identical to the first. This second amp woofed loudly whenever I depressed its chorus button EVEN with the chorus pedal set to zero. I had to use a separate Boss chorus pedal that worked without a problem. While the anti-feedback control worked well on the first Acoustic 20, the second amp's anti-feedback control did nothing but generate howling feedback when switched on and turned to any position with the amp volume set at the 10 - 11 o'clock position. So, the anti-feedback is also a bust!

This amp promises too much and only delivers on a little. I'm trading it in!

Sounded great, easy to use, one-knob reverb, but I found myself practicing at home at 2/3 volume. I returned it for a 40W. The 40 is not near as easy to use, has a menu-driven efx (ugh), have to select a preset EVERY time you turn it on, and has a harsh noise when no signal is applied. The 20W is better sounding and easier to use, just not loud enough.
