Overview

It's important not to let the room affect your mic's signal. The Reflection Filter X offers an ideal, and cost effective solution to reduce unwanted audio reflections, especially when tracking vocals. The RF-X features a 4-layer acoustic filter and a lightweight clamp assembly that's quick to install to almost any mic stand.

New materials have been developed to make it lighter than its predecessors but also to maintain it's durability - helping to position RF-X as a versatile product suited for any challenging working environment. It features a four layer acoustic filter design comprising the outer composite panel itself, a wool fabric layer, an air gap layer and an inner acoustic foam layer. This multi-layer design with air gaps differentiates the RF-X from its competitors by helping to ensure that recordings exhibit almost zero sound coloration when using the filter.

I've used this filter for half a year now and I use it for most of my vocal tracks. At $119, it definitely is worth it. The filter itself is easy to assemble in under 5 minutes right out of the box, although it can be a little bulky if you have a small bedroom studio like I do. The foam feels and works great, dampening and drying my tracks more than I could've gotten them before this purchase. Although I have foam pads on my walls, I still would get some subtle reverb just from the room itself. That subtly was removed after using the filter. The filter itself is pretty sturdy, although I recommend attaching it to a round base mic stand without a boom (or a boom mic with the boom vertically aligned) because the filter was meant to stand vertically. The little arm that comes with the filter to attach mics on is great for smaller condensers, but if you're using a mic that has length to it (like the Bluebird), then you're better off getting a separate boom stand, removing the little arm on the filter, and let the mic hang in front of the filter just to utilize the space. But all in all, the filter is a great addition to any studio, and it looks professional. I really have very little negative things to say about this product and would definitely recommend it to any producer/recording musician/voiceover actor if you are on a tight budget!

The best part of this filter would be that it's inexpensive compared to the other SE Reflexion filters if you're hurting for an SE Reflexion filter but don't want to spend more on their top model one than this would be your next best option. That being said the Pro SE Reflexion filter isn't perfect so this being lesser version of that is even worse.

It's still has the same problems of not exactly giving you studio sound but still kind of cutting out some of the reflection you hear in an open room. You do have to adjust your mic in furthest into the filter that's what I found out gets it a somewhat decent quality but not worth the asking price for the improvement. I dropped this and went for the Soundkitz AE-F which gave me the changes I was looking for. I liked the build quality of it being metal over plastic which I think handles the sound better by not vibrating through the back of the filter like the RFX does if you go heavy on it. If you want a cheaper filter and it has to be SE this is about it but I would save and get something better built.

I held off on buying 1 of these because I didn't think it would help in my quest for recording better vocals in my NYC apartment and I really regret not buying 1 sooner and I thank sE for making this product. It really aided in my recording vocals by help making the room a little quieter. I've had it for almost a year and wish I had it 16 years ago

This product is amazing I ordered one just to have and the price was good. I do have studio treatment and for the longest time did not think I would need to purchase one of these I'm glad I did though because after the first use I could instantly tell it made an improvement to my overall sound! Now if you don't have studio treatment of focus on that first or purchase a more expensive filter but this gets the job done beautifully! I'm glad I purchased it and would recommend all those reading this to get one as well!

Comments about SE Electronics Reflexion Filter X:

I read several reviews with customers upset at the Reflexion Filter X connectivity to standard Mic stands. The only problem is that there are no directions that advise of the smaller threader connected inside the larger connector. With a wide screwdriver loosen the inner section of the connection and then the larger hole (connection) will fit on the standard mic stand.

Comments about SE Electronics Reflexion Filter X:

I naively bought this to use with an Atlas Sound microphone stand (5/8" 27 thread) and an MXL microphone shock mount (also 5/8" 27 thread). The description of this reflexion filter makes no mention of the actual thread size requirements. In fact, the box and instructions also make no mention. Guess what? It is way smaller than Atlas/MXL standard 5/8" thread. It is actually fitted for a 3/8" stand (I think K&M makes this size). Sure I could order an adapter for a little more money to make it work, but to me this is a serious customer service oversight by SE Electronics not to disclose thread size anywhere in its marketing or customer information. A company should not be rewarded for providing incomplete information to the customer or manufacturing to a non-standard specification. Instead, I will be returning this product and shopping for an alternative solution that actually fits a 5/8" microphone stand.

Item arrived earlier but haven't really tried it coz of time constraints.

The item is really easy to install to most(standard) mic stands.

I haven't given a thorough trial on the sound quality but I have given a few tries and it seem to remove some of the unwanted "shhhhhhhhh" sounds. Recorded sound seems to be a little more clear and more studio-ish.
