  • My Goto Guitar

As reviewed by JoeW on 11/9/2010

I've had my WildKat for over a year now and it's the only guitar that I pick up anymore. I own 2 Gibson LPs (67 and 73) and as much as I love playing them, I still only gig with the Epi. Lots of tone, from the classic single coil at lower volumes to a great big growl when you push the amp. This is the best $$$ that I've spent in years.

This guitar is a great piece of gear. Not only does the guitar look great, but the sound is very nice. The P90's give a very warm, open tone, and sound great on clean with both pickups activated. Now, on grinding distortion (which is what I use for my band) This guitar can absolutely wail! Be careful at high volumes, because not only is the guitar a hollow body, but it has single coils, and the feedback can be REALLY ridiculous, loud and generally annoying. The bigsby trem on it works great, but if you are using it for more than just a few notes here and there in a song, the top 3 strings will go way out of tune. So if you are planning on using it heavily in a song, or for a little bit over the course of a gig or jam, be prepared to do some heavy tuning. But after reading a few forums, changing the nut for a Graphteq nut should solve this problem. The size of this guitar is probably a little bit bigger than a Les Paul and it feels just as heavy or a little less heavy than a standard Les Paul. The photo of the back of the guitar shows the color is a bright orangeish color, when in reality its a REALLY dark reddish brown. Absolutely gorgeous. Over all, this guitar is great for an active musician, or a hobbyist. Highly recommend. Definitely exceeded my expectations.

  • poor quality control

As reviewed by ernesto resendez on 1/23/2014

i hope my case is an isolated incident. how could this piece be sold and shipped with so many flaws? it seems the pickups were installed without pilot holes, there are stress cracks in the finish around both pickups. they didn't even bother fully tightening the bridge pickup, which broke the wood between the screw and the pickup hole during shipping. now the p90 is hanging from one half installed screw. the fret board is separated from the neck at the nut. needless to say another stress crack. another crack in the finish between the neck and body. the binding on the neck is cracked at the fret wires. the knobs sit so far from the body i'm surprised the bigsby arm doesn't knock them off. couldn't even play it after getting it home. the maple top and the binding on the body is almost flawless which is a shame considering how it was butchered. now i have to take it back so they can re-order it for me, but do i really want one now? should have gone with something else...anything else.
