A mahogany body with a gorgeous top and a choice of pickups.

The Gibson Prophecy Les Paul Custom Plus EX/GX Electric Guitar offers you a choice between 2 slightly different guitars, the EX and the GX. Both share identical specifications with the important exception of the color finishes and the pickups onboard. The EX model is finished in either Midnight Ebony or Midnight Sapphire with EMG 81/85 active humbuckers, while the GX model comes in Black Cherry and Cherry Sunburst and features Gibson 498T/490R humbuckers. So make your choice. Either way, it's a win-win.

The Prophecy Les Paul Custom Plus EX Outfit
This Les Paul brings back the axe loved by metal shredders around the world. And now, along with EMG humbuckers, the EX Outfit includes individual volume and tone controls for each pickup, a mahogany body with a stunning quilt maple veneer top, and a super fast mahogany neck that has a SpeedTaper D-profile with a satin finish and a 24.75" scale. The elegant rosewood fingerboard has 24 jumbo frets, a 14" radius, a standard 1.68" graphite nut, and beautiful mother-of-pearl and abalone block and triangle inlays on the 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, and 15th frets, alternating with mother-of-pearl blocks on frets 17, 19, 21, and 24. The clipped dove wing headstock has 5-ply white and black binding with a mother-of-pearl "stickpin" design on the headstock face and Prophecy Les Paul Custom Plus EX or GX on the bell-shaped truss rod cover.

Its active EMG 81/85 pickups excel at high volume and are a favorite among the world's top metal players--including Zakk Wylde--for their beefy tone. Both pickup designs feature close apterture coils with Alnico V magnets for a smooth tone that can go from 1959 to far into the future or anywhere in between. And for the first time, the EX features individual volume and tone controls for each pickup. The EMG pickups are powered by a 9-volt battery conveniently located in the back of the guitar in an easy-to-access compartment.

The Prophecy Les Paul Custom Plus EX's stunning black hardware goes beyond anything seen before in the Prophecy series including black metal barrel controls with mother of pearl inlaid tops, Epiphone's legendary LockTone tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, an Epiphone Exclusive non-rotating heavy duty output jack, and black Epiphone straplocks. The EX also includes black Grover 14:1 machine heads for superb tuning accuracy, just like you find on all the very best Les Pauls. Finally, the EX includes a hard case to provide the very best protection for your instrument.

The new Prophecy Les Paul Custom Plus GX Outfit
This guitar is the supreme Les Paul for those who dare to break new ground in speed, sound, and technique. And now, the GX features Gibson USA's powerful 490R/498T humbucker combination with push/pull coil-tapping for each pickup, an elegant mother of pearl and abalone block & triangle inlay and pickup individual volume and tone controls in the traditional Les Paul layout.

The Prophecy Les Paul Custom Plus GX Outfit features a mahogany body with a stunning Quilt maple veneer top that's available in two beautiful color finishes, Black Cherry and Heritage Cherry Sunburst. The super fast mahogany neck has a SpeedTaper D-profile with a satin finish and a 24.75" scale. The elegant rosewood fingerboard has 24 jumbo frets, a 14" radius, a standard 1.68" graphite nut, and beautiful mother-of-pearl and abalone block and triangle inlays on the 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, and 15th frets, alternating with mother-of-pearl block inlays on frets 17, 19, 21, and 24. The classic Epiphone Clipped Dovewing headstock has 5-ply white and black binding with a mother of pearl "stickpin" design on the headstock face and Prophecy Les Paul Custom Plus GX on the bell-shaped truss rod cover.

Fans of the original Prophecy Les Paul Custom Plus GX, fitted with Gibson DirtyFingers, often noted that the 490R/498T might be a great match for the new GX. They heard you and your wish was Epiphone's command. The new Prophecy Les Paul Custom Plus GX features a Gibson USA 490R humbucker in the neck position and a Gibson USA 498T in the bridge position. The 490R features an Alnico II bar magnet and the 498T carries an Alnico-V bar magnet. These pickups have the traditional characteristics of the original "Patent Applied For" tone that's unmistakably from Gibson's legendary family of humbucker pickups but, with a modern edge to give your tone a distinct personality. Best of all, each pickup features coil tapping via a push/pull control at each pickup's volume knob. And now for the first time, the Prophecy GX features individual volume and tone controls for each pickup.

Over the last decade, Epiphone has built a reputation for outstanding quality, especially in their hardware. Now, the Prophecy GX gold hardware goes beyond anything seen before in the Prophecy series beginning with the GX's gold metal barrel controls with mother of pearl inlaid tops, their legendary gold LockTone tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, a gold Epiphone Exclusive non-rotating heavy-duty output jack, and gold Epiphone straplocks. The Prophecy GX also includes gold Grover 14:1 machine heads for superb tuning accuracy, just like you find on all the best Les Pauls. The Prophecy GX also includes a hard case so you have the security to take your GX anywhere the music takes you. Includes case.

  • Amazing Guitar!

As reviewed by Stephen terrazas on 1/9/2013

So I got this for my little sister and this thing is an amazing metal guitar! Got the Midnight Black model and this thing just shreds and she loves it who wouldn't? The tone right out of the box is great, playabillity is amazing and the finish is amazing. If she doesn't want it after a while I'll gladly take it!

  • Very good Les Paul for the money. (Prophecy GX) Heritage cherry sunburst

As reviewed by donald gray on 4/16/2014

Ive had this guitar about a month, I have read reviews people write the day after they got a product, hold your load people and actually use the thing before you start advising others. First off the bad. Loose headstock nuts, and other hardware: First off I'm not a guy that cranks the crap out of every nut and screw on a guitar but this setup was a bit on the insane side. The guitar came with a very poor setup, all of the headstock nuts were finger tight as I could remove them them without tools - no problem I got my socket set out and tightened them about 1/8th of a turn after being finger tight. The body screws all needed at least 1/8th of a turn before feeling snug. Neck relief: The neck on this guitar was severely over-bowed to the point I could rock a 22 inch straightedge on the frets about 1/8 - 1/16 of an inch. I removed the truss rod cover and loosened the truss rod in 1/8 increments until the straight edge didn't rock, then adjusted it further until I had .006 gap at the 6th fret. I'm not sure if this is caused from switching from the stock strings to ghs boomers 10-46 (stock gauge) or if Epiphone is overly cautious about neck relief at the factory. If you really think about it a guitar could sit for almost two years in a warehouse before actually getting to the customer, heat humidity atmospheric changes could all have an affect on what this was setup like at the factory. Action: The action was a bit high for my liking and the stop-bar tailpiece was a bit too low causing more sting tension than I like. I think these are more personal preferences than anything else. Knobs: The volume and tone pots are installed correctly, but the caps are set at a non symmetrical angle. I will take to GC and have them get come new ones, or replace with some Gibson speed knobs if they fit. Missing: With all of the gold hardware, this guitar should come stock with gold pickup covers. I bought some gold Gibson covers and they installed perfectly. The Good: Once properly set up this guitar sounds awesome, great classic rock sound on the bridge and blues sound on the neck. It sounds great playing anything from Little Wing to Killing in the name (minus the solo, only have a wah at the moment). It goes from 440 to Drop D without having to readjust all the other strings and stays in tune for days even with constant full string bends and playing 2 hours a day. Finish is absolutely beautiful, construction feels rock solid - pickups are definitely Gibson as I checked it out when installing the pickup covers. So far I have owned a MIJ Stratocaster, KH-202 and a few no name pawn shop acoustics and this is by far my favorite guitar I will probably still have it in a decade or two.

I had this guitar shipped to my local store and when they got it they double checked the factory set up and this baby plays like a dream. Great price and great service.
