  • Well...

As reviewed by Alan Makrush on 3/11/2014

First off i would say this is a killer guitar for the money. However buyer beware if u opt for the "factory restock" like i did to save a bit of cash. It is actually a factory 2nd. It has an odd blemish, some high frets(the frets are sharp in places as well), was set up terribly and there are cracks all thru the binding on the neck. Im temped to send it back and pay the extra money to get a new one. Note: i assumed factory restock meant maybe a blemish or 2 but not what i got. The price realistically should've been quite cheaper.

  • This plays as sexy as it looks

As reviewed by John Rummell on 4/23/2014

I've been playing an Epiphone Les Paul with burstbuckers for 10 years. The Thunderhorse sounds just as good. A bit different due to the body shape of the explorer, but I love it. The tone knobs allow you to get a single coil sound as well, which is cool, but I'm not sure I'll need that feature since I'm primarily playing this guitar in a deathcore band. It does require an adjustment to lower the action and fix the intonation, but that's expected with any new guitar straight from the factory. I'll also put in a bone or graphite nut since heavy strings tend to break the standard plastic one (this has happened on every electric I've ever owned ... maybe I play too hard).

  • Great when you start getting serious

As reviewed by Brendan Pirando on 1/5/2014

I've been wanting an explorer for a year, and I finally went to the store where they only had two in stock. This explorer with its silver-burst color was an immediate turn on and the feel to it was just so nice. I love the style and the configuration of the body, It took me about 2 days to really get the right feel for the guitar and I love playing it since. The BurstBucker pickups sound really nice when you play it, and it just sounds great when you plug into an amp. This is a great guitar for when you want to really take things seriously like joining a band or writing songs. I think it was an excellent buy and I recommend this to anyone who wants to take their guitar playing experience to another level. Also, I know that guitar is capable of changing into a single coil sound and now I'm curious on how to do that. Once you get this you're probably going to want to learn a lot more about guitar sounds and tricks that you can do. Only thing I have left to say about this guitar is that I love it and it's amazing how Epiphone was able to make an affordable guitar have so many great aspects to it. It is really worth the money you pay.
