This program is truly interactive and I am well pleased. I have a Yamaha keyboard connected thru MIDI. With Interactive Evaluation turned on the program gives detailed feedback - this note held too long, this note played to early, two notes here played instead of just the right one, etc. Each exercise has two audio tracks, one playing just the music as written, and a second accompaniment track. On the accompaniment you can highlight sections of the music and loop them to learn the hard parts, and you can also easily change the tempo (slow while learning). Fingering can be turned on or off, and you can also display a keyboard showing which keys are being played. A progress tracker keeps track of your highest score on each exercise. I am a beginner and have been using the program for a couple of weeks. I have always had trouble with tempo and with being distracted by accompaniment - this program is great for conquering both problems. The teacher in the video clips is amusingly school marmish, but they are short clips and sometimes helpful.
I am 70 years old now and have had a life long desire for learning to be an accomplished musician; not to perform but for my own enjoyment.I played drums in Jr. High School and my next door cousin took piano lessons so I learned to read basic music at an early age. However, I could never put it to use. I have many books, tapes and CD's but never got very far as most were too complicated and needed an instructor to assist. I just purchased the subject software recently and have done quite well on my own thus far. I feel that it starts at a beginner's level but takes you far enough to find your way around without being overly complicated. I can read the music in the entire book but must now practice diligently. If I can master it, there is an Intermediate program on a separate DVD that will advance me even farther. At this point, I feel that this is the best software program I have purchased. If I can get thru this satisfactorily I would be interested in other similar programs. I would also like to find someone who has performed in a band to further assist me but I live in a rural area and have not located anyone yet. My desire is to read the music and play it properly but to also learn some "tricks, riffs and other stuff" from an accomplished performer. The Guitar Center Orlando store had an excellent sales person named Sandro who offered the kind of help I need but I live too far away.I really liked the "School of Rock" concept but it was for young kids only.
