This unit is almost identical to the 15 band version except that it has 31 bands providing the user with even more control. I enjoyed my 15 band unit so much that I purchased this unit for my church. The unit has been an excellent addition to our sound booth. I immediately noticed that we could gain better vocal performances by eliminating unwanted frequencies while in the meantime shaping the tone to properly fit the room. I have not had the unit for a long time yet, but so far it has been very reliable and easy to use.

Just got this for my church and we are sending it to the back shelf. There is a white noise hiss constantly distracting everyone that is trying to listen to the pastor. This unit is ok for high noise environments (live shows in clubs) but if you need something for a quieter space (like a church) get something else.

great for the money

By t carey

from pa.

needed something fast for a sound system problem ! wasn't sure if an eq would be the fix ! needed something solid with quality with no bells or whistles . this unit was perfect. sliders were smooth and solid . was able to run the gain up at about + 10 with no problem. built really well with the xlr input and output option. i use the 50 hz filter because it keeps my acoustic from getting that low end rumble . completely satisfied ! the loud hiss problem that was mentioned didn't come from this unit . very quiet ! a great eq !

I'm OK with these units

By Michael Faith

from Evansville,In.

I bought two of these to use on monitors only. They perform well, and to my ear are very quiet.I got one that was bad out of the box.It was too quiet. No sound!!!An easy enough fix.I chose to trust it to my engineer, and keep it local rather than the hassle of shipping it back to DBX,and if I hadn't ditched the box GC would have probably offered to just swap it with another unit. I am purchasing another for FOH eq for a total of three in my small club P.A.Even with the one glitch,I am still going ahead with another one. That says a lot!!!

Excellent Unit

By paraiks

from Alamo,TX

i have had my dbx 231 for about two months now and have used it at many parties/events. I was a little hesitant about buying it because i had read previous reviews about the unit making a lot of hiss. UNTRUE!!! The unit, for one, feels extremely solid so i expect it to last for a while. Aside from that, the dbx does not make hissing noises and provides accurate sound adjustment for any occasion. The only bad thing i have to say about the equaizer is that the power switch is in the rear of the unit...it would have been a lot better in the front. overall...very good product.I recommend it

Night and Day Difference

By Mike

from Manassas, VA

For many years I have been a home theater enthusiast and have bought some very high end gear and though I was happy with the sound it still lacked personality. I purchased 3 of these along with 3 Crown XLS202 amps and my system came to life. Base became very deep and tight, the separation between channels seemed to dissapear and I'm hearing details from my favorite CD's and DVD's that I've never heard before. My only drawback is the fan noice which in very quiet passages can be a bit loud, but put them in a rack or in an equipement room for a home theater and you won't have any problems. Definately try both of these products, you can't go wrong.

Great EQ

By CMG

from Summerville, SC

This is a great EQ for anyone on a budget. I have one for my monitors, and have used it on the mains before, there was no hiss, even when the room was silent. The faders on this unit are smooth, and don't 'crackle' when being adjusted. This is an overall good unit. 4 Stars.

Great Product

By Kevin

from Wisconsin

I run 3 of these on my sound system, 1 for the mains, 1 for the A&H PA28 board, and 1 for the monitors. No noise what so ever. Running Crown MacroTechs on Martins wide open. You can't hear anything unless your ear is on the speaker itself. I've never had any trouble with noise in these units. I love them.

Works well, but NOISEY!

By Mr Steve

from Cambridge, UK

Purchased one of these in 5/07. It's a good simple unit. I wanted a good EQ with none of these extra add-ons. The unit is of solid construction and feels good to use. HOWEVER, it's biggest let down is the fact it adds hiss in to my signal path, exactly the same as another review stated. I've tried different leads, different ins/outs on my desk and have concluded it's the DBX231 that's hissing away. Would be fine for a loud band, but avoid for speech / quiet music. Considering ditching mine.

Love it

By Euphoria Lied

from Costa Mesa, CA

Another reviewer had complained about it giving off a hiss. Perhaps he got a bad unit because, my entire rack (12 pieces) is dead quiet. 31 band EQ is just right, and it does not cheasify the tone even remotely. If you need 2 channel EQ I would not recommend getting anything else. price/performance ^^b thumbs up.
