Overview

Zoom's B3 Bass Effects and Amp Simulator combines the ease of a stompbox pedal board with the power of a multi-effects processor and a USB audio interface. With complete control over individual effects and amp modeling, you can change your tones on the fly for both stage and studio.

Three stomps. One pedal.
The B3 offers three large LCD displays and corresponding footswitches that form a graphical interface, allowing you to utilize up to three stompbox and amp effects simultaneously. The interface has also been simplified with three control knobs for each display. This intuitive design makes creating, saving and rearranging the effect chain of your sounds a breeze and provides easy navigation in live and studio settings.

Evolution of tube amp simulation.
A newly developed sigmoid curve clipper re-creates the smooth clipping of a tube amp's waveform. From the warm, fat sound of R&B to the intense, aggressive tone of metal, the B3 can simulate amplifier sounds that are authentic to the original models while maintaining the nuances of fingering and picking techniques.

Super-real amp modeling.
The B3's 12 super-real amp models range from vintage to the latest trends in amp technology, each with its own distinct cabinet modeling that can be used to alter its tone characteristics. By combining different amplifiers and cabinets, you can digitally create your own custom rig. The B3's modeling technology provides the best tone for both live performance and direct recording.

[Modeled bass amplifiers]
AMPEG SVT / FENDER BASSMAN 100 / HARTKE HA3500 / SWR SM-900 / AMPEG B-15 / ACOUSTIC 360 / AGUILAR DB750 / POLYTONE MINI BRUITE III / MARSHALL SUPER BASS / GALLIEN KRUEGER 800RB / EDEN WT-800 / MARK BASS LITTLE MARK III

The B3 offers 99 diverse types of stompbox effects, including some of the world's most popular bass pedals and rack-mounted processors. You can use up to three effects in any combination, as well as its high-quality stereo tube presets and bass synthesizers. It also includes patches personally designed by four of the world's top bassists: Victor Wooten (Bla Fleck & the Flecktones), David Ellefson (Megadeth), Frank Bello (Anthrax) and Doug Wimbish (Living Colour). In addition, the B3 can store up to 100 of your original creations without a hitch.

The newest generation of DSP: ZFX-IV.
The all-new ZFX-IV DSP effects processor boasts amazing power and clarity, upgrading everything from sound to functionality and operability over previous ZFX versions. By using 32-bit floating-point processing, the B3 can produce amplifier sounds that are more realistic than ever before.

Looper function with 40-second phrase recording/overdubbing.
The B3's Looper capabilities include 40 seconds of phrase recording and overdubbing. The "sound-on-sound" function allows you to layer bass sounds as many times as you want in real time and use looped sounds as simple backing tracks. You can even create a "full band" feel with the built-in drum machine and DSP effects for a live solo.
Note: When the UNDO/REDO function is enabled, the recording time is limited to 20 seconds.

USB audio interface for DAW recording.
The B3 operates as an audio interface, letting you record directly to your computer via USB. All of your sound settings used during rehearsals or live performances can be recorded to your favorite DAW such as the included Steinberg Sequel LE recording software. The pedal's direct monitoring capability eliminates latency issues, assuring realistic studio conditions and hassle-free operation.

Your personal drummer.
Every bassist needs a drummer, and with the B3 you can choose from 40 different rhythm patterns, including 4, 8 and 16-beat, shuffle and many others. The tap key also makes it easy to set the tempo and start a one-man jam session anytime.

Balanced XLR output for DI use.
With its built-in XLR output, you can avoid DI boxes completely and connect the B3 directly to any mixing console to maintain a balanced, high quality signal. Its convenient Pre/Post switch can direct an effected sound to the main outputs while sending the original analog bass guitar signal directly to the XLR output without passing through an A/D converter.

Add a B3 to your pedal board.
The B3 is perfect for use in combination with traditional stompboxes. By adding a B3 to your pedal board, you can decrease the size and complexity of your setup, while expanding your system's effects and modeling capabilities.

Accurate, real-time Tuner function.
The pedal's Tuner function offers smooth, real-time response with precise bass tuning accuracy. Whether you're in the middle of a performance or practicing alone in your room, simply hold down the pedal's center footswitch to start getting your strings back in tune. In addition, the B3's LCD displays and LED indicators make the Tuner easy to see on a dark stage, where you can also mute the output to tune silently.

World's fastest patch change speed: 1ms.
With the B3's amazing 1ms patch change speed, you'll never miss a beat. Change from rhythm playing to a solo in an instant by simply tapping a switch.

Runs on batteries, AC adapter, or USB power.
The B3 can operate on three different power sources: AC adaptor (included), batteries or USB bus power when plugged into your computer. Four AA/LR6 alkaline batteries provide over six hours of continuous use. Whether on stage or in the studio, the B3 gives you reliable power options.

I LOVE the Zoom B3! I recently purchased an Ampeg SVT 410 hlf cabinet and a used Ampeg SVT 450H to power it. No matter how hard I tried, I just could not get the tone I wanted out of my rig. I could not afford to purchase an all-tube Ampeg head or the multitude of effects pedals needed to shape my sound to my liking. I ran across this pedal on MF and discovered that ALL of the pedals that I would like to have were combined in this one single pedal. I mentioned it to my wife and she bought it for our anniversary. BEST GIFT EVER! I'm not big on effects and usually set my EQ pretty much flat so I used the pedal sparingly. With just a couple of effects (Sans-amp, Compressor, and Exciter) I was able to dial in the exact bass tone that I had been searching for all those years. Now my rig sounds like a glassy tube beast that really cuts through the mix. My solid state head is still a solid state head, but with just the right mix of effects from the B3, it now sounds pretty close to the old Tube SVT monsters of yesteryear. I play in both large and small venues and I now receive regular compliments on my tone. Don't get me wrong, when I'm at home, I love playing around with all of the other cool effects and weird sounds that you can get out of this thing, but I mainly just use it to get my "One Sound". I've been playing for years and can tell you that from my experience, this is the best thing to come along for bass players in many years. It's like having a full professional level pedal board in just one small ruggedly built unit. I LOVE it!

Comments about Zoom B3 Bass Effects and Amp Simulator:

I've been using this unit for two years now and I just love it. I have some killer pedals I've collected over the years but the Zoom B3 is just so good and easy to use that I haven't used my other pedals much at all. I've set up some really cool patches using the computer and it's super easy to do. This is a high tech pedal for low tech people.

I have a variety of bass guitars, including an 8-string. If you use an 8-string, this unit is a must. The tones I can create are just stunning. The on-board tuner is great and the on-board drum tracks are great for practicing. I use this unit D/I for home recordings and it works great. There's a lot of crazy UN-usable noise type sounds on board, but also tons of great tones you can work with easily. If it was lost or broken I would purchase another one immediately.

Everything a bass player needs to create a solid bass sound, plus tons more you can toy with and experiment. Looper and drum machine are excellent for practicing. Had it for only a couple of months, but quality seems solid.

I have been playing about a year now; however, this stomp box is truly tricked out and really packs a punch to your playing, no matter what level you are at! Something else that is nice is that as you become more experience this pedal allows you to move forward in your sound, tuning and effects.

          great great pedal

Comments about Zoom B3 Bass Effects and Amp Simulator:

Love this pedal. I had a big board of analog pedals. Play in a cover band so never know what tone I might need next. Mostly distortion/fuzz, tremolo, chorus and octave. Sometimes flange or phase. That's a lot of pedals and never knew what I needed next. Had to keep the level where you want it live with all those pedals.

I got the B3 and replaced everything. I just have a tuner pedal before it which of course doubles as mute.

I use it as a series of three pedals. so, in one bank I have tremolo, distortion and octave (my three most common). I can hit one stomp and turn any of those on/off. Then between songs, pretty easy to select another bank and have my phase+distortion, a detuner (which is chorus) and a second slower tremolo.

And all of these are totally customizable. And you can pick from a range of each pedal. Like 5 distortions or choruses, etc. And i'm very happy w/ the tones compared to my very expensive analog board.

couldn't be happier with this pedal. Have yet to find something it couldn't do for me.

Comments about Zoom B3 Bass Effects and Amp Simulator:

I had a digitech rack mount along time ago. I was so frustrated from trying to adjust the parameters and saving the program that I pulled the plug and have been playing straight into the amp for years. Then the guitar player in my band got a zoom and I was impressed. Playing in a cover rock band you need some effects to make the tune sound right and this pedal offers everything you could use. Setting things up the way you like it is easy and I'm 54. Nice pedal for the buck.

Been looking for a small multi effect for awhile and stumbled on this one. After reading the reviews I was sold. Great unit for the price. A forth effect would have been nice, but it's not a deal breaker. I highly recommend this unit. Thanks Zoom.

I discovered the reason the tuner was tuning my bass sharp - the calibration had somehow gotten changed from being based on 440 Hz to 444 Hz. I changed it back to A-440 and should now be good to go. Changing my rating to 5 stars.

Comments about Zoom B3 Bass Effects and Amp Simulator:

The last Zoom product I owned was a plastic multi-effects unit for guitars, but that was over 10 years ago. I was very impressed in the rugged design of the B3. Great sounds and lots of features. The looper was a nice touch, but the USB interface was what really sold me. The only negative thing I can say is that the tuner appears to be very inaccurate (tunes way high compared to my Peterson Strobo-stomp). When I tried recording a guitar track to go with my bass track, I had to manually mis-tune my Les Paul to make it match the bass track. I didn't notice this until I upgraded to the latest B3 firmware, so it may be a bug in the 1.20 version. I have no other complaints, though, so even if the tuner is never fixed, I am still happy!

Comments about Zoom B3 Bass Effects and Amp Simulator:

I have a Zoom B2 - nice unit but difficult to program. The B3 seemed much easier to work with especially with the graphic displays. Since I only need a max of three effects + chromatic tuner, I decide to buy the B3 and I'm VERY glad that I did. There are a lot of FX on the B3 that are really good and a few that I didn't like at all - but that's me. I really like the HPS pitch shifter - if you're experienced in working with harmonizers this is really helpful in filling out the sound of a 3 piece band. The unit is well built and solid with XLR out, active/passive switch, an "econ" mode when using batteries, PLUS a USB port and software to program the unit on your computer. The B3 is a great product - I should have gotten one of these when they first came out but at least I have one now.
